I always like coming here. The burgers are good, the tots are good and the brussel sprouts are good. The servers are always friendly and service is pretty quick. This has been my go to quick burger place since moving to the area. Shake shack just moved in across the street but I still think I prefer Smashburger. There is outdoor seating and it sits in a cute strip of shops. Definitely worth a visit. read more

The guy working the counter ignored us for a couple of minutes. I guess he was hoping we'd leave before having to take our order. We made a simple order and was met with, "It's late and we can't make smashfries". We walked almost an hour and a half before closing. The Dr.Pepper was out and when we brought that to their attention we were told that the Pepsi vendor had to change it. Never heard that one before, but will go with it. Then we got our food... The Brussel sprouts were burn to hell. The burgers were not correct and way overcooked. The salt on the table was solid from being left outside. The whole experience was a loss. My first visit was acceptable and the food was really good. There was no wait time to order and the food arrived to our table in a reasonable amount of time. Now, when I stopped in during the week to grab my husband lunch, I ended up leaving after 10 minutes of waiting for the order to be taken. With Shake Shack opening in the neighborhood today, you would think that Smashburger would make an effort to compete. Unfortunately, they weren't ready. The air conditionbing wasn't working in the restaurant and the service left a lot to be desired. We ordered on-line for pick-up service and waited over 15 minutes for our milk shakes. We left without getting them. Customers who walked in after we were there, received their shakes before us but they had to wait too. I've told my wife that i'd rather go to 5-Guys or Shake Shack in the future. We won't be using Smashburger again. (nor will my son or his family). This wasn't the first time we had bad service there. You'll need to step up your game if you want to stay in business vs. the competition in that area. read more

Went here yesterday for about the 4th time. Each time I get a burger here, the service is worse. The kids running the place are more concerned with chit chat then doing their job. When I arrived, me and 1 other person were the only customers. I placed my order at 4:30 pm, watched the staff as the girl and one young guy were attempting to wash the floor, and talk. The other young guys in the cooking area were talking, laughing. I saw 2 burgers & a couple of fry orders placed under the heat lamp. About 8-10 mins after I placed my order another couple came in and placed their order, sat down. About 8 mins after, they received their order, placed at their table. Me and the other customer still did not receive our orders. Those 2 burgers and fries were still sitting under that lamp. We both waited no less than 30 mins then had to go up to the counter and ask if those were our burgers. They were, and had been sitting there while the employees where being social. When I asked the young girl why no one gave us our order, she didn't answer and just put it in a bag. I asked why she was mopping the floor instead of giving us our order and she said it was her job to mop. Very, very bad customer service! All anyone of those 4 kid employees needed to do was place the burgers and fries in a bag and call out a name! Every time I go there the kids there get worse! read more

My sister ordered food on DoorDash last night. All that was fine but when she took a bite of her burger a fly flew out. It sounds like a lie but it is not! Food was mediocre; the front door was locked so we used the side door and politely told the young lady at the register the front door was locked, she relayed the message to the man cooking (assuming it was the manager) . He then yelled at her in front of us. 10 minutes later he went to unlock the front door and rudely and and loudly told the young lady he was using his common sense to unlock the front door and that it isn't hard. No, not a recommendation from me. This is no different than a Wendy's in my opinion. The burger was so so the fry's tasted "wrong" like maybe they were freezer burner or cooked twice, I don't know I just didn't eat them. The food costed way too much for what it was! All bad I know so why a two star and not a one star..... service was quick, atmosphere was clean and that accounts for something. This place really hits the spot when you need a tasty burger. The truffle fries are delish too. I love the toppings, and you can create some really yummy combinations. I often do spinach, avocado and cucumber so I feel healthy! So the food is great and the staff is friendly enough but I think they could step up the cleanliness. The staff on duty were sitting and chatting instead of emptying the overflowing trash cans. The tables had crumbs and greeted smears on them. I get it, they are tired and overworked but cleanliness is something that really matters to me. Hopefully it was just a one off. The buns are smaller then the burger, which is annoying for eating, $1.29 to add on avocado and it was seriously not even half of a avocado. I was charged $1.29 for haystack on my burger (onion straws) and it didn't have them on there. The shake was good and the fries just disappointing. They were thin and hard. Barely 3 stars. A 3 star burger and 2 star fries. I was caught up in all the buzz about this new burger joint and wanted to check it out. Gotta say, I was disappointed. I had the 'big classic', it was neither of those. Don't understand why they call it 'smash' burger, cause it wasn't with me. Yes, they might smash the burger pattie flat but it doesn't add anything to the quality or taste. It's an ok burger, nothing really that special. The fries, thin and skinny is what they should call them. Not much taste and so thin, better to eat them with a fork. I like the location, just next to the Regal theater in the new Promenade at the Virginia Gateway Center. The outside seating will be a plus when the weather warms up. I like Smashburger. I've had really great experiences on numerous occasions in Fairfax. Last night I tried the location in Gainesville for the first time. I was extremely disappointed. My girlfriend and I walked in around 7 PM on a Sunday night. The place was not busy. About 40% of the seats in the restaurant were filled, and there was only one other party in line at the counter. We ordered two burgers and a beverage. My girlfriend asked for a glass for water. We tried to order onion straws but we were told they were out. The BBQ, cheddar, bacon burger I had ordered was supposed to have onion straws on it as well, and when I pointed that out I was told they had onion straws for sandwiches but not for sides. We went to our seats and our food arrived in a more than acceptable amount of time, but my burger had no barbeque sauce. It also just didn't look very appealing on the plate, not that I'm prissy and need everything to be just so. I can certainly arrange my own bacon on my burger. I took my burger up to the counter to get some barbeque sauce, and I waited. The girl who was running food walked by me at least three different times without acknowledging me. Finally, one of the guys in the back of the house recognized that and asked what I needed. I went back behind the counter to give him my burger as he requested. When the food runner brought it back out to me with a couple squiggles of sauce on it, she literally dropped it in front of me, almost tossing it down. That ticked me off. Our burgers were just OK, and the restaurant was messy. About half of the empty tables had trash and half-eaten food left on them. I'd probably give them another chance with the hope that it was just a rough night, but based on my wonderful experiences at the Fairfax location, the Gainesville location could be much better. read more

This restaurant is dirty as hell! The tables are always dirty, their staging area is dirty. The food is sub par. I won't be back.

It was disappointing to see the quality of this restaurant. Considering dining-in is not an option right now, you'd think they would at least keep up with the cleanliness. The floors and counters were gross. The "cleaning station" they have to store the disinfectant sprays and rags were questionable and I even remember asking myself when those rags were last replaced. The cashier was a young female who was sitting down and using her phone behind the register. Her customer service skills were subpar and not welcoming. The place just looked cluttered and I didn't even want to eat the food after seeing the how gross and unorganized the place was. The cooks looked miserable while be crammed in a small and messy corner. Overall, it just had a dirty and lazy vibe. I appreciate the masks and gloves, but it really defeats the purpose when the cashier doesn't wash her hands before handling the food. She wore one glove to bag the food, but she also used her ungloved hand. So whatever germs she had on her phone and whatever else she was touching, was now on the bag of food. She also wiped her face with the back of her glove... So, we won't be going back. It's nice they have a gluten free option, but the lack of cleanliness is enough to keep us away. My husband I visited Smashburger in the Gainesville location on Saturday, Oct. 19 between 4:00pm - 4:30pm. First of all upon entering, we stood for more than 5 min. There were two girls out front, one was making a milkshake and one was up by the grill window standing. After more than 5 min. I said do we order for ourselves or do they take our order. The one girl behind the counter turned around and told us to "hold on". She looked to the other girl and ask her to help us but she just looked at us. So first of all, terrible, unfriendly service. The restaurant was very dirty. As I looked around I told my husband we should leave but he said we could give it a try as we had never had it before. We wanted to eat outside but it was so dirty we couldn't. When the one girl who was taking orders wasn't working she was on her phone. The bathrooms, tables and every area needed serious attention as far as cleaning but the phone seemed to be more important. The food was not good. The buns were so cold and the order was not as I had ask for it. We ordered a chicken sandwich which tasted like fish....We ordered $41 worth of food and dumped all of it after one bite in the trash. I most definitely will never go there again. We went over to FIVE GUYS and the food was sooo hot, service was so friendly and welcoming....do not waste your time or money trying Smashbuger. read more
