As a vegetarian, at first, I was skeptical when I heard Smashburger was moving into Kingwood. The community was cheering, and I was going to pass it up, thinking they'd never have anything for me. I was wrong. Really, really wrong. I learned that everything on the menu can be made vegetarian by leaving out the bacon, and swapping the beef for the black bean patty. I've had my fair share of black bean burgers, and I was still nervous, but when I tried it, the flavor was bold, and unique, and the texture was perfect. Protein-packed and filling, this is a very good, low calorie, low cholesterol option for not only veggies, but for those looking for healthier options. Every burger can be made with beef, chicken, or black bean. Like the idea of the chicken burger, but want beef? No problem! Like the sound of the black bean burger, but can't give up your beef? No problem! Don't eat meat and don't want to be left out? No problem! I had the opportunity to sample the entire menu at a Yelp! event at this location, and here are some of my favorite highlights: The Smash fries with the rosemary-garlic salt - Favorite appetizer. I like that these come with regular salt, or this rosemary-garlic option. Same goes for the sweet potato fries, you can have them either way. The flash fried green beans and carrots deserve an honorable mention. They also have fried pickles, and fried jalapeno peppers. They have a variety of unique dipping sauces, too, which I thought was a better option than ketchup. The Regional (Texas) Burger (with black bean patty instead of beef,) and the Avocado Ranch Black Bean Burger were tied for my favorite burger. They have 3 sizes for their burgers, which I thought was nice, because sometimes you aren't that hungry, or you are starving, or if you have a child, there are options for everyone, and every budget. A close 2nd place went to the Spinach, Cucumber & Goat Cheese burger with a black beann patty. I liked how the cheese melted into the patty, and that was a rich combo, full of flavor. I am obsessed with the egg buns. Some of the burgers come with a wheat bun, and I was reluctant to give up the egg bun (I am sure they can swap out wheat for egg, and egg for wheat...) but at the end of the day, I felt each bun choice complimented the burger it was originally designed to go with. Another honorable mention: I like that they put the BBQ sauce under the patty or cheese, so it doesn't ooze all over the place. The avocado was a little messy to eat because it is topped with slices of avocado, not guacamole or a puree/sauce, but so what? Finger-licking-awesome! I tried to like the Truffle Mushroom Swiss burger. I'm sure it's fantastic. It did have a nice blend of mild and delicate flavors, but I am allergic to mushrooms, and I can't stand swiss cheese, but if you're a fan of those, then this is the burger for you. The black bean patties have cumin, garlic, onions, and blue corn tortilla strips mixed in. Seriously, even if you are a hard core beef lover, you have got to give this a try at some point. They are moist, and smashed just like their beef patties. Salads. They are huge. They have them. With or without chicken (+$2 w/chicken.) Lastly on food, milkshakes. They have several flavors. The best part about them is they are made with Haagen-Daz ice cream!!! They aren't too sweet, which is a plus. The decor was modern, and I loved the red, steel, and wood design. The owners explained that this was a new design plan, and I think it is just what the Kingwood area deserves. Some of the waitstaff seemed a little overwhelmed and unknowledgeable, but others were on top of their game. I think with some training and some time/experience, some of the kinks will be ironed out. We did attend this event prior to this location opening, but I am confident improvements will be made, and I have a new respect for this restaurant. read more

I always go to smashburger; they have great burgers; you definitely get what you pay for! With that being said, you should expect their prices to be a tad higher than most places. I had a bite of their truffle and Swiss burger, which my husband ordered, and it was awesome. I had their chicken avocado club, and it was good but I wish their chicken patty was a bit bigger. Their smash fries are always great to me, and their veggie frites were pretty good. This place, however, isn't all that welcoming. The service seems like they are not happy to be here, and it just takes away from the nice experience of eating their good burgers. Perhaps if they better their service and environment then more people would give this place five stars! read more

I guess they dropped the salt shaker on my fries, onion rings and burger. The tomato was pretty good and the red onions were thin-sliced and sweet. Pickles were good, as was the lettuce. The patty itself was done and juicy, served on a very good egg bun. However, all was destroyed with the salt shaker. It was so salty, I thought it must be a joke. Nobody, I hope, eats that much salt. I awarded a three star because of the ingredients, but I would never eat here again unless they could assure me they could make my food without the ridiculous amount of salt. read more

I love Smashburger and it is is probably my favorite chain burger place. They have a nice selection of food, including burgers and chicken. Even the salads come in a big variety. The food is very good there. I enjoy the Spicy Baja iterations myself. That combo works well with the burger and chicken. Even its cousin, the Baja Cobb Salad with Chicken is my go to salad there. Still, nothing compares to the Smashfries. Thin, crispy and lightly coated with that Rosemary Olive Oil. I love those things. I even get them as a side to my salad. Not exactly healthy, but darn tasty. They have a great beer selection, including once from my favorite brewery, Saint Arnold. The soft drink (It's called "pop" people!) selections is nice as well. The only negatives are speed of service and price. Burgers are made to order, so they won't be as fast as traditional fast food. But I would liek to not have to stand there waiting for too long. As far as price goes, it does get a bit expensive for the standard burger, fries and a drink meal. $12 is a bit steep, but honestly, that seems to be the going rate no matter where you go for lunch around here. read more

The staff in the front is super helpful and friendly. What I had a problem with is our food came out and our fries were full of grease and not cooked all the way. At first glance I was like are these even smash fries as there was little to no seasoning. I also noticed that the burger did not feel like it just came off the almost microwave like. My family loves Smashburger. We prefer the one in Atascocita, but this one is a close second. I have trouble eating many different kinds of food because I'm exceedingly picky. The last two times we went to this location, I ordered a grilled chicken on egg bun with bbq sauce. The first time I added cheddar cheese but it was not as good of a combination as I hoped. I love their chicken and my family says the beef is very good quality. My only complaint is that the egg bun is toasted on the grill so multiple flavors can be tasted if you focus enough on what your food tastes like. The atmosphere is very relaxed, especially since today was a rainy day. The restaurant is fairly clean and we've only had to clean crumbs off the table a few times. Overall, 4* for food, 5* for atmosphere, and 4* for cleanliness. Will definitely visit this location again. read more

I have to say "For The Price I Have Had Much, Much, Much Better". This place is outrageously priced for a burger! $5.00 for a burger, then you pay $2 for a drink and another $2 for fries! My roommate and I ate there for lunch and it cost us nearly $20!! That is crazy for a burger meal. The burger was very thin and was dripping with grease or water, I don't know which, maybe both. The Dr pepper wasn't working, but they did get it fixed. It still didn't taste right. The fries are real skinny and got cold fast. We could have eaten next door at JJ's Chinese for less and more flavorful food. Or even Panera's in the same parking lot. They have a menu posted at the front door and I recommend you check it out before you enter. Unfortunately, we entered through the side door. When it was our turn to order and found out the $5 was for a burger only, I told my roommate we could leave, but she said we'll try it. I wanted to leave. I will never go back. I think Smashburger as a chain has many quality items and a varied menu that will please different tastes. However, a recent visit to this particular restaurant was quite a disappointment. The location is great, but the restaurant was not clean and the employees seemed rather indifferent. One of the employees even stood in her shoes on a counter near food to adjust the menu while we were there, which was definitely unappetizing to say the least. It was hard to find a clean table and chairs, there was food and paper waste on the floor but the place wasn't busy and there were available employees to clean up. At the bottom of my salad bowl there were items - cheese and tomato bits - that were NOT a part f the salad I ordered, so it made me wonder if the bowl had been cleaned to start with. About as good of a burger as you can get without going to somewhere like Papas steakhouse. Burgers are always juicy and cooked to perfection. Prices are more than fair and the service has always been great. We enjoy smashburger every so often. The burgers here are solid. I have had the beef, chicken, and the veggie burger. All three are done quite well which is hard to find at a burger spot,. For a chain burger spot this place delivers flavorful choices at a decent price. I would recommend going with the Jalapeño Baja for any of the three available patties, ask to have the jalapeños and onions grilled to give it a nice flavor. The smash fries are very good, thin and crispy. Had the veggie frites last time and I would not recommend them cause they are not really fried and not boiled so they deliver kind of a weird taste and texture.
