    Wollensky's Butcher Burger*

Hubby and I came here after a long morning of sightseeing. We sat at the bar because we wanted to try the Wollensky burger, which is only served at the bar. It was absolutely delicious! I also ordered a lemon drop, and hunnyyyyy it was stiff!!! Our bartender understood the assignment! She was awesome!

One of my favorite bartenders at Ruth's Chris in Buckhead, Atlanta recommended this restaurant when I came to Chicago. We were able to make reservations easily online. We arrived a bit early but grabbed a quick drink at the bar before being seated. The staff were pleasant and very accommodating. It felt like we had one of the best views in the house, with a beautiful view of the river from our table. We started with a few drinks and the Wollensky salad. The drinks were well crafted. I had an apple martini, and my spouse had a nice glass of red wine. The Wollensky salad was different--nothing I've had before--but nonetheless very good. For our entrée, we had the swinging tomahawk ribeye, carved tableside with confit herbed potatoes. We also added a side of Brussels sprouts and truffle mac and cheese. Everything was very delicious. This steak may have entered my top five. Overall, it was a pretty exquisite dining experience.

We had a celebratory meal post graduation, and everything was perfect! 7 of us enjoyed the whole experience!

Great food and awesome service. A little expensive for the price but a Chicago classic when you're in the area.

I came here with my husband to celebrate Valentine's Day and this place was perfect! I wish we sat by the river, but overall the restaurant is very big downstairs and nice. I loved the warm bread that comes out fresh and melts in your mouth. My husband told me about the bread before coming here and it literally exceeded my expectations! I was looking forward to the calamari but I was slightly disappointed by it. I thought the dish portion was a bit small and food did not taste good/fresh. Not sure if it's because they were really busy due to Valentine's Day, but the food was lacking something for sure. We did broccolini as a side and I LOVED it. I've had broccolini at other restaurants, but this place really nailed it. I love that it was nicely seasoned and cooked with still a crunch to it. I think the cajun steak I ordered was the real spotlight! I've been telling my friends to come here for the cajun steak because it is literally what you would expect it to taste like and WOW! I took the bone home to eat it the next day and after tossing it into the air fryer, it was as good as I remembered it the night before. My husband had their filet mignon and said I thought it was way too salty, so I'm glad I went with something different that I typically don't see on menu at other steakhouses. The apple crumble was surprisingly really good for someone like me who does not like apples. I took like two bites of it along with the vanilla ice cream and it was soooooo good after a heavy meal. Overall, I really enjoyed the food here especially the cajun steak and cannot wait to be back!

The best part of our trip to Smith and Wollensky was absolutely our server. She was very knowledgeable about the menu and very friendly. The food on the other hand was very subpar to other steakhouses in the area. Beautiful ambiance as we sat outside on the river. In my opinion it was overpriced for what it was.

Celebrated my good friend's 51st birthday . 4/5 of us arrived on time and was told we needed to wait for the 5th person in order to be seated so therefore instead of being seated and possibly ordering a cocktail and appetizers we needed to wait another 15 minutes. Food service moved at a good pace , however the wait staff removed my half eaten appetizer before I was able to finish instead of asking if I was done . I'm giving four stars instead of three due to the food quality and the ambience of the restaurant.

Smith and wollensky is a very old school, kind of stuck in the past steakhouse. It can be very hit or miss on whether the food is good or not. Sometimes you get warm bread and food, sometimes it's stone cold. I do like the pot roast, as that is the most consistent in quality. Fair warning the chocolate slice of cake really is gigantic, they are not exaggerating. This is a good option for a business or catchup with someone lunch spot if you want a slightly higher than normal quality lunch.

Came here on a Thursday night for an office dinner. Our group had about 16 ppl in it. We had a really good time! The seafood tower was the bomb -- super fresh and loaded. Truffle fries were love, and the mac n cheese was creamy and delicious. Steaks were cooked perfectly and the service was awesome. We had a private room, which was a bit drab, but the views made up for it. The outdoor seating looked amazing, just too cold to enjoy this time. The service was top notch... especially the ladies. They killed it!!! Desserts were so-so, but overall, we left happy and full. Would definitely go back!

Great views and service. And of course the steaks were amazing. The ribeye was one of the best we'd had in awhile. Also, I forgot about how good their rolls were.

What an amazing experience. From top to bottom- drinks at the bar before hand Excellent greetings and seating. Lovely table by the river and a Fabulous staff. The food was spot on and the service stellar.

Another one of our fave Steakhouses. Really disappointed in the Duck Confit salad here. It was so bad we almost sent it back. The egg was cooked perfectly thou & we loved the little peas & veggies in it. The duck was just way too gamy. We should have sent it back. Very disappointed in the Duck Confit salad. Womp Womp. DO NOT RECOMMEND the DUCK CONFIT SALAD. However, the rest of the items we chose were fabulous. Especially the "9 ounce Black Grade WAGYU FILET $98" SUPERB! YUM YUM OUIOUi !!! "The 9 oz black grade Wagyu roasted shallot asparagus with bone marrow butter (add brandy wine peppercorn sauce) Winners circle indeed" OuiOui :)... We added a side of the Brandy wine peppercorn sauce to ours. This is the way to go! Yum Yum Yum Yum Superb! The wagu bone in Ribeye was also Superb. As was the Hand Cut fries OuiOui! The burrata salad was super simple & lovely as was the broccolini. The shrimp on mashed potatoes flavors didn't work for moi. The other disappointing thing was the "Gigantic Chocolate Cake" It was frosted in a Dark chocolate ganache which is moi fave & it came with the cutest cow cookie LOL! Unfortunately, the cake part was too dry. Will return for the Hand cut fries & Wagyu Wagyu Wagyu as we had two! Highest Recommendations on the 9 ounce Black Grade WAGYU FILET $98" SUPERB! YUM YUM OUIOUi !!! FIX THE DUCK CONFIT SALAD PLEASE! Will return to update.

A group of us, co-workers came in for dinner on a weeknight recently and sat outside with a beautiful view overlooking the river. Our service, Michelle was EXCELLENT! Very friendly, helpful, and engaging! Unfortunately, the kitchen wasn't as helpful, they seemed to be quite behind and our food took an unreaosonable amount of time to come out - But she did her absolute best keeping us informed and even escalating to the manager who came to talk to us (he was nice, but probably could have done slightly more to help out, considering how long we waited).... That was the worst of it and overall, it wasn't really all that bad. The food was all pretty darn good! Their split pea soup was what we remembered from the original location in NYC and we enjoyed it! Cocktails and wine were both great as well. Their bone-in NY Strip was nicely done and perfectly seasoned! Dessert - Plenty to choose from... their signature coconut cake was great, as it usually is. Their incredibly huge chocolate cake was nice, but a little dry. Overall - It was a nice visit and would probably 5 stars if the kitchen wasn't so jacked up... Service from our specific server was perfect - the best she could do given the conditions of management and the kitchen, but I'm still giving it 4 stars, when it's probably more deserving of 3 1/2 stars.

Long Review: Met a friend for dinner while in Chicago and he said Gibson's was a must. We went on a Thursday night and the place was absolutely packed. Just to give you a sense of how friendly this place is, I accidentally knocked over my glass of wine while reaching for the bill. Caught it though...phew. But not before I spilled it all over the back of the woman sitting next to me, the man to the right of me, and of course all over myself! Within two seconds, a waitress came over with napkins to help clean up the mess, the guy sitting next to me got on the floor and wiped it all up, and the woman whom I spilled the drink all over was like "Don't even worry about! At least you caught the wine glass!" Wow! I was stunned at how cool everyone was, and it set the tone for the evening. The kimchi pork dumplings were an absolute flavor bomb and that parmesan broth gave the dumplings a little extra kick that took it to the next level. Plus, I love when the dumpling wrapper has a little chew to it and isn't this soft mush that dissolves in your mouth. The beef fat frites were a nice treat as well. They were not extra or over the top in anyway. But you can tell when something is done well and correctly, just like these fries were. The Premium Steakhouse Set, in my opinion, is all two people need to enjoy this very special experience. All the accompanying condiments were exceptional on their own and could have functioned as their own course. The Japchae glass noodles were a stunner. The real sleeper was the chopped lettuce greens tossed in their chili vinaigrette. Could have eaten 20 bowls of those lettuce greens. Sadly, I forgot the name of our server who cooked and cut our meat for us. She really added to the experience. She expertly prepared our food while maintaining a fun and pleasant conversation with us. The meat itself, my goodness, tender, smoky, quality-forward, and perfect served with the condiments. What a spectacular meal and overall experience.

I was staying at the hotel and encouraged to check out the restaurant so came downstairs to reach out to the host about a reservation. They told me they were fully committed the whole night, I said okay is there a waitlist, she looked at me unsure. I explained further if there is a cancellation would love to be notified and she wrote my name down. I went back to the lobby, looked on OpenTable and I saw multiple reservations. I went back to the hostess showing the 8:15 resy I got and she said it wasn't accurate and if someone booked it and came they would refuse them (what???!! There's a cancellation fee as well). I asked about the 8:45 and her coworker said that IS available. I was confused, because a minute ago she said they were fully commited. Which I said back, she said there is actually an 8:45 (okay so you lied). I asked if we could put our name down for that and did. After that extremely strange interaction, which I was not used to after eating at many higher end restaurants we sat down at 8:45. We ended up getting a mix of small plates. The waiter was clearly trying to sell us their expensive courses for his tip though he was very sweet... which he may not have realized we had an expense budget for work and we were trying not pass that. He emphasized the small plates were small and not enough food which we fell for and got more and had way too much food and passed our expense budget due to it. The food is great, it's the service that has work to do especially for such a high price tag. Get the chicken for sure. Dumplings you can pass on. The broccolini (not pictured) is great as well. Amazing sauce. As the food is good I would not come here again due to the service as their are other restaurants that are more buttoned up than this.

The wood shelving, classic decor, and lively atmosphere made it feel timeless. The service was easily one of the best parts of the experience. Since it was our first visit, David walked us through the restaurant's history, constantly refilled waters, and somehow managed to clear plates within seconds of us finishing. They also made us an anniversary card, gave us complimentary sparkling water, and surprised us with a slice of key lime pie. The hospitality was incredible and made us feel genuinely celebrated. The stone crab was super fresh and the mustard sauce was the perfect pairing. The crab bisque was rich and creamy. The filet was cooked perfectly with a great sear, while the stuffed lobster tail was warm, flavorful, and topped with a parmesan crust. The lobster roll was solid with a perfectly toasted brioche bun. The sweet corn was sweet, buttery, and smoky. For dessert, the blueberry pie was so comforting. The filling had a chewy texture, wasn't overly sweet, and the crust was perfectly crisp. The key lime pie was a nice surprise from the restaurant and had a great graham cracker crust. Overall, every dish was delicious and executed well but nothing really wowed me flavor wise. If you love classic steakhouse food and seafood, this is the spot. The service alone makes it a fantastic spot for celebrations. Thank you David & Joe's Seafood for the incredible night.

People like him have almost a "super‑recognizer" ability: they store faces, mannerisms, and micro‑details the way others remember song lyrics. It's rare, and when you encounter it, it feels almost uncanny in the best way. And the fact that he consistently recognizes you over the years tells you it's not luck. It's intentional, it's skill, and it's part of why the place feels special before you even sit down. Pair that with a meal that exceeded expectations -- that's the kind of night that reminds you why you've been a loyal patron for so long. Great food is memorable, but great hospitality is what makes a restaurant feel like a second home.

I had seen it previously advertised on TikTok and decided it looked like a nice, upscale dining experience and the perfect mimosa-filled brunch opportunity. Upon coming in at 11 when the location opened, I was already impressed by the beautiful cafe inspired French interior. The warm lighting and refined Parisian details were so beautiful and elegant, and I especially loved the look of the bar, which is a central statement of this restaurant. I chose the French toast breakfast and my boyfriend got the steak and eggs, and we both had mimosas as well! My French toast was light, fluffy, and delicious, definitely a solid choice. My boyfriend was super impressed by the steak and eggs and said it was the best breakfast he had our entire trip! The food itself was great and I would love to come back and try their dinner menu at some point. The service, however, is what truly stood out to me in our experience. Our servers were very helpful, knowledgeable about the menu, and speedy. We truly felt taken care of. Fernando was the sweetest and most welcoming, and he immediately made my boyfriend and I feel so welcomed and at home in Chicago. We greatly enjoyed our conversation with him and he even gifted me a coffee table book detailing the history and menu of La Grande Boucherie, which was so kind and such an amazing gesture. Fernando set our experience apart from any other dining experience in Chicago and he made this meal one of our favorites!

We ordered the $195.00 seafood tower, only to find that it barely included any seafood, 1/2 of a lobster, 4 shrimp and about a dozen oysters. I understand that Chicago is not a coastal city, but to not even include an entire lobster for a tower that cost $195.00?! Yikes! The drinks are also very expensive, and we found the steaks to be tough and dry. The Niçoise salad was awful, and not at all what we expected. It was drowning in dressing and the combination of anchovies and tuna did not work. It was also quite obvious that the tuna was not seared properly. I did think the roast chicken was good, and the fries were by far the best part of the meal. We went to several fine restaurants over the past few days to celebrate a milestone birthday, and La Grande Boucherie was the absolute worst in terms of value and quality of food. They were also the only establishment that didn't give the celebrant a small desert with a candle to mark the occasion. Just disappointing all around.

It came with pita bread which added to the dinning experience. Just wonderfully enjoyable. My wife enjoyed the Fish and Chips which beat Bobby Flay. True words from the menu. Wife said if was the best fish and chips she has ever had. Then came the dessert. Now I asked Nicolas and he suggested Pavlova and Blood Orange. Which lead me to survey Margaret and she suggested Sticky toffee date cake. After a friendly jostling back and forth of desert knowledge Greg the Maitre-d made also suggested the Sticky toffee. Both came and to be honest both were outstanding. Excellent choices. All and all this was a great dinning experience from beginning to end. We will return next time we are in Chicago.

Ambiance and decor is top notch! This is SUCH a pretty spot! Very IG-worthy, with different details and moods on different walls. The bar was especially stunning. Service was impeccable. From the minute we walked in, the host and manager were friendly and personable. Our server was the right amount of conversational to make it feel personal but not overwhelmingly so. He was also very knowledgeable about the menu and had great recs. When I asked about "Sophia style" he had great descriptions and recommended it as his personal go-to. The bus staff was also incredibly attentive and wiped down the table between courses (a detail of fine dining that I think makes a huge difference!) Now the FOOD! Wow the truffle fries were some of the best fries I've ever had in my life. Weird item to lock in on, I know, but a good fry tells you everything else will be amazing too. It was crispy on the outside and the perfect pillowy texture on the inside. The steaks and bacon were incredible. It was cooked exactly as I like (I like mine medium well and run into a lot of places undercooking it. I know, it's unpopular but I am also paying for what I want. So I appreciate the perfection from Sophia on this one!) and I really enjoyed it Sophia Style. I love that all steaks already come with the house steak sauce and steak salt at bare minimum. The chocolate cake was AMAZING. it's gigantic, they literally served it with a steak knife lol. It's hazelnut and chocolate so it has a very rich deep flavor. They brought it out with a candle for my birthday which was a nice touch! Sophia Steak made my birthday dinner feel very special and we cannot recommend it enough for your special occasion!
