Quite a few kids showed up it was really nice. We drove one hour and 40 minutes to get here and it was well worth it. Really don't know much about the school, only that it was small, but I think there's only like 4000 people that live in yerington lol. I do know that we really enjoyed the wrestling coach. He is very helpful and put the clinic on today for free. We will happily return for the next clinic.

A lot of emphases is placed on learning with a laptop. . (All wifi are turned off at 11pm at night.). Considering all standardize tests in the US are computerized (MCAT, LSAT) and most work environments in the US use electronic records exclusively, lap top in classroom is a good idea. Students come from all over the world with the goal of attending a college in the US. SVA has transformed itself in the past few years to focus on college prep for international students. Class sizes are small, usually less than 10 students per teacher. I noticed the students get alone with each other rather well. This is observed during lunch time. I see students from different countries sit next to each other. Dorm rooms are 1-4 students per room. Most of the ones I saw have 3 students in them. There is a microwave on each hall, fridge and safe in each room. Overall the rooms are larger than the one I used to live at UC Berkeley 20 years ago. (unit 1 Cheney) and much larger then the tiny rooms at Univ of Tennessee. Washers and dryers are free for students to use. At night, dorm exits have security alarms, hallways are video monitored SVA pride itself at offering a balance between academic and personal development. They encourage students to take advantage of it's location to learn many physical activities Tahoe has to offer - hiking, soccer, golfing, cycling, ski / snowboard. I think this makes SVA different from other college prep school. I have the opportunity to spoke to students there. Due to the many Saturday field trips student take, expect another $4000 or so in additional expenses. While the students like them, parents may be surprised at the bill.

We were so impressed with not only the stage sets, costumes but the talent of these students.Their ability to sing and dance was amazing. All of them had great stage presence and were spot on with their lines and dance steps. Great talent! She has conducted a Eval in 20 degree snowy weather with a driver with bad bronchitis. That driver got pneumonia. She belittles drivers and I've seen good drivers brought to tears. They expect drivers to have perfect kids or the driver gets written up. They put special needs kids on a regular route, but the driver can't know who is special needs. Because of privacy laws. But in a special needs bus, the driver gets lots of paperwork on all the details of that child. If a special needs child is disruptive on a regular route.... they will not do anything to the child ( like remove them) because they are special needs... but if they ( special needs child) aren't perfect, the driver gets written up. If a parent complains because a kid tells his Mom you are mean... they go on a witch hunt. Also, the busyard is left open most nights, and there is no cameras or lighting for drivers returning late in the evenings from field trips. I reported sexual harassment and they wouldn't follow up. Suit yourself... be warned!

The kids are always yelling out profanity and I never hear the staff taking control of that. I ride BMX bikes out in front of my house and the kids will insult me and make fun of me and staff does nothing. Sometimes when they leave the gates open during the day I will take my kids to the school to play on the field and staff always kicks me out. They have even kicked my son and I out for riding our bikes in the parking lot. Total power trip on the staff side. They don't want any kids to enjoy the facilities at thier expense. A place that is built for kids but no kids allowed. Makes a lot of sense.

The front desk ladies are rude and scoff every time I call about my child being bullied. I talk to the dean and principal and nothing gets done. The teachers bully my daughter too and nothing gets done. I've had to resort to calling the superintendent to try to get things solved. The staff at this school are immature and do nothing. One of the teachers Ms Lange won't let my daughter go to the bathroom, get water and threw a pencil at my daughter, which hit her and when I called and told the school nothing was done about it. The front desk ladies laugh at me when I call. They have cameras in the rooms but they're only turned on "in case of emergencies" the cameras should be on all the time so the behavior of the teachers can be caught but of course the school doesn't want that. So far I have liked all the teachers (Thompson, Gianotti, Benecke, Tremayne, and N. Smith). They communicate well via E-mail and phone. There is an ample amount of homework (enough to be beneficial, but not overwhelming). The PTA has family movie nights that our family enjoys. The movie admission is free and snacks are available for purchase. The school nurse and cafeteria staff are well educated in the area of food allergies, which I appreciate.
