Depending on what staff are on, means they may come up and give him a cuddle and a treat! Our dog is never friendly, but he seems to sense when he's getting a treat and is just gorgeous. So if Petbarn staff can make him friendly they must be pretty good. Prices are fine. Nothing great. But it means I can see the product instead of buy online. Easy parking too so you won't have to carry anything far.

Very disappointing to be sold all the wrong stuff when you expect to go to the experts.I spent of $200 on everything and it was a total waste. Poor little hermit crabs were setup for their death. You just have to look into how to care for a hermit crab and then see how they are caring for their hermit crabs to see that Petbarn hasn't got a clue or that choose not to care about the hermit crabs so you will come back to buy more when your one dies.

I walked out of this store thinking the whole experience had been pretty awesome and then later…read morereflected that Aquarama isn't without faults. I think the "awesome" vibe stems from the fact that there are some very impressive exotic fish here - the type you see when you go to a proper theme-parky aquarium - and the vibe of the store is a bit magical. However, that's how I generally feel about all aquarium stores. You're surrounded by colours, water and brightly coloured fish that can't touch you. You're living the dream. If I was in the market for anything other than a betta (Siamese fighting fish) I might have had a different experience, because most of the fish looked pretty healthy. But the bettas (though there was a VERY large range of them - the largest I've seen in Brisbane) were of varying health. I saw one dead betta, one dying betta and a few fish - particularly giant bettas - that were too big for their little cups. The online betta community forums (mostly US-based) frown upon keeping bettas inside these little cups, and I've noticed the other aquarium stores I've visited generally keep them in slightly larger "hanging tanks". A few of the Aquarama fighting fish in fact were so distressed that a long veil-tail male appeared to be attempting to eat his own tail, a behaviour normally associated with close confinement and depression. I noticed this earlier on in my visit, long before I'd bought some nice accessories for my betta tank and after cheerful repartee with the staff. It wasn't until walking out afterwards that I thought of the betta conditions and wondered over the morality of it. Bettas in the wild are born in small rice paddy puddles, so they don't need much space. Still, bettas need room to move.
Aquarama certainly has a huge range of aquarium products like tanks, gravel, supplements, filters,…read morelights, and of course fish. The staff seem to know their stuff, and are usually happy to help you out although sometimes it gets super busy in here and you'll have to wait a while for your turn. My favourite aquarium shop closed down a few years ago and after that I patronised Aquarama a few times. It can be a bit pricey compared to elsewhere and sometimes I wonder about the health of their Siamese fighting fish (I've had a couple from here that didn't last long after I got them when others from elsewhere have), but they definitely have an excellent range of the hardware type stuff. I find the store to be a little bit grimy sometimes, and think they could make a better impression if they paid more attention to keeping everything looking a bit neater and cleaner, but at the same time I can appreciate that that's a hard task with so many tanks and so much stock. If I ever decide to set up a fish tank again, I would happily purchase some of the equipment from Aquarama, but would probably shop around elsewhere too.

They have hermit crabs!!! They have hermit crab and bug set ups (even more than the other pet stores)!! They even have cool (healthy looking) guppy fish. Oh and chickens!!! They have a chicken coup with little chicks you can buy and raise so you can have your own fresh eggs for those who like to pretend you are farm-living-city-dwelling folk. Not many of you out there, but you know who you are! "I have chickens" is not a good ice breaker at a party, but there is enough interest to make you sound a little bit above normal, and possibly cool. Who am I kidding, i just want to pat those little suckers forever. But sadly, we all know they poo. And it takes a lot of effort and responsibility to raise these chicks into mature chickens to cook or lay eggs. Staff here are friendly and happy to babble with you about whatever strange habit and animal you have, which is a good thing in a pet store. The store is spacious, clean and organised, I'll be back for more bones for my dog.

FishChick Aquatics was in this location for a long time, but she's sold up (she still operates online, and you can pick up your purchases from the shop still) and it's now Down Stream. Only open Thursday, Friday and Saturday. It's a little less cramped, and they have refurbished. FishChick focused on bettas and guppies, and while you can still get them here, the bettas at least aren't at the same standard. These guys are more into the Australian natives. There's still a great range of fish available, the prices are good, and the staff are more knowledgable than your typical pet store.

You like trying to stick your hand in to pat the puppies or kittens or anything furry really. The little child in you is dancing inside the second you walk inside this pretty big store and you know you'll be able to touch something! See something and maybe even buy something if you can afford it. I have my doubts about the puppies here, rumours on the grapevine tell me they sell a vast range of pups because they do get some from puppy farms... but it could be a rumour. With no truth in it. Having said that, the staff are extremely friendly and helpful so if you did get anything here or need any medicated shampoo like me, they are more than willing to point you to the right direction and even show you how the item works. It's a great place for kids to have fun too, and the dog food isn't too expensive.

There are African cichlids, American cichlids, garoumis, neons, guppies, clown fishes like Nemo, bright coloured salt water fish that you find in the Barrier Reef - draw breath - even their goldfishes were crazy exotic varieties with celestial eyes, lionheads and bubbly chins. This is the place to go if you're an avid fish collector. Their range is huge given that they are not an exclusive aquarium. Their staff know their stuff too should your $200 discus threaten to float belly up. In my case, usually it was because I wasn't washing the tank out enough but there are all sorts of fish fungal afflictions and water pH issues which the devoted fish collector need to know about. They have a pretty impressive aviary and reptile house as well. My nephew picked up his first pet here; an unusual pair of hermit crabs named Michael and Priscilla. He's from a science-y family so I have no doubt he'll be picking up some stick insects, centipedes and rhinoceros beetles for his collection soon enough. Pet City is not your standard pet store. Even if you're not after a pet or pet supplies, it's an entertaining place to take the kids.

The staff at Petbarn are knowledgeable and helpful, and are all animal lovers with lots of experience in pet care. The range of fish and aquarium products here is excellent and they have staff dedicated specifically to helping you establish and maintain your own aquarium. Another thing I like about Petbarn is that pets on leads are welcome, so if you need to get your dog a new collar for example, you can actually bring them in to see what fits (and you can count on them getting cuddles and treats from the staff as well!). Petbarn has a wide variety of pet products including foods, grooming products, accessories, toys, and treats. They also sell some medications such as worming and flea treatments. The staff here are happy to consult with you about whatever pet advice you need. Many times I've come into Petbarn to seek advice about my fish tank and have had a long, helpful conversation with a staff member and then gone home without needing to buy anything because the staff don't push you to buy things in return for their help. For this reason, whenever I need to buy anything for my dogs or aquarium, I head to Petbarn. They also have a customer loyalty card and lots of information about obedience, puppy pre-school, and other pet activities.
