I was due for a smog test for my car registration. I looked up a local service garage and obtained a Groupon. The site did say that they charge an additional fee for the certificate and if you have a van, truck or SUV. So, I was ready for the $13 certificate fee. But didn't think I should be charge $10 for SUV. I drive a 2010 Honda CR-V, whatcha is basically a hatchback. I do admit, service was prompt and I only waited 15 minutes. The service time of the actual test was less than 10 minutes. So, It cost me $55...thank goodness I won't need another for a couple years. read more

Really awesome service - JC was absolutely a huge help. We came in without an appointment and were helped in less than 15 minutes. My car failed the smog test due to a faulty piece but he totally helped us out and told us which piece was needed and got an easy fix within 10 minutes or so. Came right back and had him recheck it and everything was great! Awesome customer service and a really cool guy. He was a very sweet man and made us feel welcome. I'm definitely suprised with how fast the service was as well. The location seemed a little out of the way - almost in a construction area with little shops but don't be put off, this location is definitely worth it and they will do whatever they can to help you. I took an appointment and was there 10 mins early. The old guy there said they don't take appointments. it is first come first server always. our website it not updated. He also mentioned that he told the owner, Malik, and his manager to take off the appointment option but they don't listen. This facility has displayed some technicians license info on the wall, but they don't seem to work there. The old guy said, he only work there .... not sure if he is certified technician or have proper license to work. There is no info available. not willing to support such business practice. My Mom brought in her vehicle which passed the functional inspection but failed due to catalytic convertor. The original was stolen from her vehicle 16 years ago and replaced by the dealer. She has never had an issue during a smog check in all this time. Smog Time told my Mom in order to pass her vehicle show would need paperwork from the dealer to certify it was a valid catalytic convertor. She went to the dealer and they were able to provide her with some paperwork. She went back to Smog Time and was told they would accept her paperwork but that the equipment wasn't working and to check back the following week. She called several times and after a week they still hadn't fixed the equipment. They told her she could drive to another location in Orange. My Mom is a senior and doesn't like to do a lot of driving and specifically went to the Irvine location because it was close to her house. She decided to just go elsewhere rather than have to drive so far away. That place had no issues and couldn't understand why Smog Time did not recognize her catalytic convertor. Smog Time charged my Mom something like $110 which they should have refunded her. She had to pay for a second smog check at a different place. As a senior on a fixed income, I am disgusted with how she was treated at Smog Time and that they did not refund her due to their incompetence and non-working equipment. Shameful. read more

This place is horrible. Came here with my car to get a smog that had check engine lights. They took my car for 6 days trying to "diagnose it". I asked them if it may be the gas cap and asked them to test it in front of me. The car failed the gas cap test in front of me but they insisted that wasn't the problem. They charged me 600$ to replace a part that cost 70$ from the Toyota factory!!! I took my car out of there and replaced the gas cap and wallah! The check engine lights went off. This is for the customer service over the phone and the price I was given after presenting a coupon. The service itself was fast. I realized I forgot my renewal notice with the smog check bar code for them to scan. I simply called to ask them about it the next day and received someone yelling at me over the phone telling me I don't know what I am talking about and they did everything. Ok...I was simply double checking to make sure I didn't have to come back with the paperwork. Really rude. Also I presented a coupon and still was charged over $60 for my service. Not sure where the $29 deal is that is advertised everywhere and I even asked about it. Won't be coming back here again, especially when I was JUST calling to double check if I needed to come back. I'm so sad to have to amend my review. So this last time (third patronage), we took in a pickup truck to be smogged. Smog Time said the truck failed.. not because emissions levels were high, but because the timing was allegedly off (they said it measured 5 degrees off center, and noted that measurement on the paperwork) and not correctable via adjustment. They said it needed a new timing chain and that they could do it for $1,300. We took it to another smog shop WHO NOTED THAT UNDER THE HOOD THERE IS A FACTORY STICKER THAT INDICATED TIMING IS SUPPOSED TO BE 5 DEGREES OFF CENTER. So, #1 Smog Time should have passed the vehicle, and #2 Smog Time was trying to make a profit by fixing something that didn't need to be fixed. I can imagine people who don't know better paying to make the unnecessary repair so that they can get their smog cert and register their vehicle. $1,300 folks. That's not peanuts. Do we chalk it up to ignorance or dishonesty? I don't know the answer to that question but, either way, I cannot recommend this smog center anymore. read more
