EDIT: so I tried to create a page just for the mural and Yelp didn't like that. I don't use tobacco…read moreor vape, so I created a public art page that said, Tobacco and Vape #3 Mural. The Yelp gods did not accept that. In Hobbs, New Mexico, there are a few different smoke shops referred to as Tobacco and Vape. The mural that I am about to discuss is on the outer wall at Tobacco and Vape #3, so I put that in the title when I added this Yelp page. You will see this large outdoor painting straight across from Albertsons Market. Even driving by you'll see it. It was created by local (Lovington) artist Doc Rios and features "two iconic hip-hop figures wearing sunglasses and smoking, highlighted with green accents." Who are the iconic figures you ask? I'll add photos when I get up early tomorrow since too many cars were in my shot, but they are... da da da da da ("The Next Episode") Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr. aka Snoop Dogg. And a man who was killed for no good reason, Christopher George Latore Wallace aka The Notorious B.I.G... Biggie Smalls. So Snoop represents West Coast rap. Biggie definitely rep'd the East Coast. On the mural, I cannot overlook the placement of these figures, both smoking with calm facial expressions. Snoop is on the left (West Coast) while Biggie is on the right (East Coast). Biggie had an album called "Life After Death." When I first saw this mural I said that look left to right because Snoop was and still is alive yet Biggie was dead. Am I trying to make Hobbs cool? Uh huh. This artwork is pretty cool if I say so myself. All these little Gen Z and Generation Alpha kids try to tell me their music is "tuff." You weren't even alive in 1992!
