Love the beef brisket! They've got a bunch of amazing sauces. The only downside is that they don't have multiples that you can pull from the sauce area to bring to your table... I don't think it would cost much to make this happen and they'd probably save a lot on sauce cost because when I came here with my B-friend's family, for Father's Day. Everybody poured ketchup, bbq & Worcestershire and that spicy white stuff & probably some sauces I'm forgetting about, that all ended up in the trash, mostly. I think it would behoove them to get the little squeeze bottles so that people can squeeze as they go and not just fill up little buckets of sauce and throw them right into the trash after dipping once. I don't think he would even need to have enough sauces for every table... Just a handful. People are pretty levelheaded, and I believe this would not be hard to save a lot of wasted sauce and product cost loss. Leaving five stars because the meats are phenomenal. I'm not gonna do a star just because the sauce situation is awkward. Had a great time! I used to love coming here when Gwen worked here... The drink selections are great! Atmosphere is phenomenal. We visited sandpoint on a day trip looking for some furnishings for our home. Before we left I looked for a good place for us to stop and have lunch. We decided we wanted to have bbq. Smokesmith caught our eye. So glad, it was a perfect choice. It smelled so good walking in. Nice and clean inside and the choices were numerous. We ordered the platter #1 to share. Added a couple burnt ends and ribs so we had a sampling of everything (except the chicken). Mouthwatering every bite. We chose the potato salad, corn and macc and cheese for sides and hubby had some beans. Each one had an original twist on the classic. We sat by the fireplace and really dug in. Took half of it home for another meal. That will be tonight with buns and our own sides. Definitely a must stop when in Sandpoint. Thanks for a great pre-valentines day lunch date! read more

Holy smokes! This place was INCREDIBLE! The service was great, the place was clean and the food was on point. We were doing a food safari a couple months ago and this was our first stop. I know, I'm a little behind, but this place sticks out. It was early in the day, so we got there as they were opening. We lucked out as Saturday's they have Burnt Ends and we got them topped over their Mac and Cheese. Wow, just wow! Let's start with the Mac and Cheese. The noodles were perfectly cooked so they weren't mushy but still had texture. The cheese sauce was creamy and dreamy and had a hint of spice as it was speckled with pimentos. Now for the Burnt Ends. First off, you get a generous portion of this delectably juicy, smoked, seasoned brisket. The flavor permeated the meat, and every piece was tender. On the side of the table there are a couple of barbecue sauces that you can choose from. All of them were delicious, but the meat by itself was incredible. Please stop in and give this place a try!! Incredible food with great service. Everyone was friendly at the counter and was more than willing to keep food warm for a friend while my wife and I ate. The plater was definitely the move for 2 to share. All the meat is amazing by itself but since their house-made sauce is right there, might as well give you some recommended combinations: Jalapeño Cheddar Sausage with the sweet BBQ sauce and Brisket with the spicy sauces were the highlights. This place is legit. Allow me to unpack that a little bit: The menu offerings are everything you would expect from a solid barbecue joint: Brisket, pulled pork, ribs, chicken, and a solid variety of very tasty sausages. We went with a family style sampler tray that had 1/2 to a full pound of everything and no one went home hungry. Indeed, I used some of the leftovers later that evening to make some pulled pork grilled cheese sandwiches. I'm no expert when it comes to barbecue, but the brisket was cut-with-your-fork tender and dissolves in your mouth like a snowflake made of delicious smoke and meat. They provide cardboard trays and containers for takeout, but their plates are just precut pieces of parchment paper, which rhymes perfectly with the relaxed, roadhouse atmosphere they furnish. My son was a little overwhelmed by the smoky smell within, but if you arrive hungry, that smell is gonna push you over the edge to straight up famished. They also have a good range of sauces for dipping or dousing, and cornbread as sweet as cake. If I've a complaint it's that the sauces are a bit on the thin side, but no less tasty for the consistency. We came at a time when they weren't very busy so parking wasn't an issue, but the lot is largely fenced in if you're cruising in from Boyer, and I imagine it could get a little hairy if there's a dinner or lunch hour in/out flux of traffic. There are ample sidewalks near abouts, however, so if you'd prefer to park off site and walk in, there's plenty of that as well. I've eaten at plenty of great BBQ places in the south and all over Texas but have had less than optimal experiences in Idaho, so expectations were somewhat reserved. We were greeted with smiling faces the second we walked in and the place was clean with a nice vibe. We ordered the combo plate with pulled pork, brisket, and sausage with three sides. The brisket was perfect. Great bark and pull apart tender. The pork was moist and full of flavor. Both were perfectly smoked where the flavor of the meat wasn't masked by excessive smokiness. The German and jalapeño cheese sausages were delicious. The sides were fantastic. Cornbread that was moist and served with butter and honey. Mac and cheese that was creamy and gooey with a nice crumble of what I guess to be flaming hot Cheetos on top. The coleslaw was nice with a hint of sweetness and the Mexican corn was the star of all three. Delicious. I also like that they have a condiment station where I can get pickles, onions, jalapenos, etc. There were two sauces on the table and more at the condiments station. I tasted them and they were good, but I didn't use them because the meats were so good on their own. If you want some authentic Texas Q, this is the place. After attending a local wine fest, we were hungry. BBQ sounded good so we stopped on our way home. There was a bit if a line as everything is made to order. The bartender approached us and asked us for our drink orders. They have several beers on tap and plenty of non-alcoholic and unique beverages in their coolers. There are handheld menus and a large menu on the wall. The line moved fairly well even though they were having issues with the meat scale. The special was a Pastrami Reuben. He had half a sandwich and a side of cole slaw. The meat was tender, slightly crispy, and full of great flavor. It came on marble rye bread. I got the Mac Daddy which is shell pasta, which is not overly cheesed, and topped with lulled pork. Again the meat was tender and juicy. None of their meats are over smoked and you can actually taste the meat. I got a side of their beans. They have 4 different sizes of sides. There is a nice condiment bar with several sauce from sweet to spicy. There are also pickled onions, jalapeños, and a frw other items. Yay, North Idaho Panhandle. Oh boy, these pitmasters are great. Easily the most enjoyable BBQ experience I've had in years, and the Inland NW has come a loooong way since the early 2000s for good 'cue. For me, moistness in the smoked protein is everything. Pork is a natural, and easy to do, but brisket is not. Their brisket was....butter. Tender, beefy, nice crust, and not over smoked. Lordy lord, I do this at home and cannot duplicate their expertise. I will pay a premium for meat like this. And don't get me started on their smoked Jalapeno Cheddar Sausage. Dream worthy. A lot of care and monitoring goes with creating food like this. This restaurant does it all and does it right. The meat is very tender and flavorful.They have a good selection of sauces. The portions are massive. Probably most impressive were the sides. They were all a step above what you would get at any restaurant. Our favorites were the mac n cheese and potato salad. The tater tot casserole was also a welcome suprise. We finally made the trek to Smokesmith Bar-B-Que in Sandpoint ID. The food is beyond delectable. My favorite is a close race between the brisket and ribs. It's perfectly smoked, moist and unbelievably tender. The sides they offer are unique and also delicious. Great slaw, Mac and cheese, and do not miss the tater tot casserole! Corn bread is moist and just sweet enough. Whatever you do, do not miss slathering your choice of meats with Sean's Spicy Carolina sauce. He makes it in house and if it's not on store shelves soon I'll be shocked. The building is super cool, with local and family deco. It has an outside stage with local music and tables to eat at. The food is good and the service is ok. The main problem is the parking. It's located at the intersection of several small streets with a weird and unhelpful one-way system. Parking at the restaurant appears to be limited to 4 or 5 narrow spaces. It used to be possible to park on the other side of the lot, but this has now been taken over by a Garden center, with new signs prohibiting parking for non-customers (though they didn't appear to have any customers at the time). Parking on Pine Street close by appears to be prohibited also. Get the parking situation fixed and this will rate four stars! read more

Our first time and tried a lot of things. We loved the pork ribs, Cole slaw, cornbread with honey, sausages, smoked turkey and beer choices which led to good beer. The servers were friendly and helpful. Price was good. We will not get the brisket again because it was too dry. The pulled pork mixed into the beans improved both the pork and the beans. We liked the condiments, sauces, loved the pickles and onions. The potato salad is delicious if you love mustard which my spouse does and I do not. We've been hoping something great would open on this location here in Sandpoint and are pleased to report that a delicious BBQ meal can now be enjoyed daily in a casual indoor and outdoor setting. They're adding umbrellas outside for summer and I would love to see a return of outdoor movies but we shall see. We ordered and shared the Mac & meat with tri tip and it was mouth watering, flavorful, and tender, the Mac & cheese was delicious and a great combo with the meat, the potato salad was unique and delicious. Nice addition is the sauce varieties, pickled onions, pickles, jalapeños and various BBQ sauces provided with fresh cold water at a self service bar in the restaurant. Having been stationed in Texas for over 15 years during my time in the Army then staying there for another 6 years after retirement I enjoyed Texas style Bar-B-Q many times. Since moving back to the INW almost 12 years ago I have searched for that same experience far and wide. I hadn't found it until yesterday when my wife and I visited Smokesmith Bar-B-Que in Sandpoint Idaho. The atmosphere matched Texas shops but with a North Idaho flare. The service was phenomenal with the servers being very attentive and courteous. Even one of the owners came out to get our opinion and she seemed genuinely interested in what we had to say. The food was awesome with plenty of items to choose from. There's saying that there is no such thing as great and cheap Bar B Q. You can only have one of the two, but even with the food being so great it was reasonably priced for the amount and quality of it. Even the sides had plenty of variety with 1 in particular of special note, they have banana pudding. There is no such thing as Texas Bar B Q without banana pudding, and so far this is the only place in the INW I have found that serves it. With all this being said they are missing 2 things I was looking for to lock it in as Texas style. Ribs ( I may have just missed these), and jugs of home brew iced tea. But with the quality and attention to detail of the rest I can make a concession for these, and I will definitely be coming back!!! read more
