Let me start by saying that BBQ is my favorite type of food, and I really hate leaving less than an excellent review. We were there today. It smells wonderful when walking in and everyone is very friendly. Got seated right away. Place looked very clean. We ordered the appetizer of creamed corn queso dip and chips. That was brought out pretty quickly and was pretty good. Ordered a pulled pork sandwich with fries and a large side of beans, and a half rack of ribs with slaw and potato salad. A different girl other than our server brought out the food. The sandwich and fries were on one tray and the beans were on another. She asked who got the sandwich, and I pointed to my husband. So she set it down in front of him, and then set the tray with the beans on it in front of me and walked away. I slid them over to my husband and kinda looked at him with a puzzled expression. I thought, no big deal, someone will be back with my food. So he started eating and I took a couple of his fries while I waited. The sandwich had a good portion of meat on it and he said it was pretty good. The fries were hot and crispy and also good. The beans were in a little paper boat that got pretty soggy from the beans and kinda spread all over the tray which had a piece of paper on it, so that got pretty soggy too. Looked like maybe a cup of beans, for $4. He said they were so-so. He started eating and I waited. After he had eaten about half of his meal, our server came over and asked how everything was. I said, I wouldn't know since I didn't have any food. She apologized and said that she would go to the kitchen to check. She came back a few minutes later and said that they were just pulling them out and cutting the ribs and they would be out momentarily. When she brought them, there were exactly 3 bones of ribs. That is a half rack? For $15.99? Okay. I tried the potato salad. It tasted like straight mustard as the dressing. I use mustard in my potato salad, but it should be a compliment to the taste, you shouldn't just taste mustard. The potato chunks in it were kind of a rubbery texture, like canned potatoes. On to the slaw, it was not something that I wanted to finish, but that was just my taste buds. The ribs were lukewarm, which I expected them to be hot since they were "just pulling them out". They were pretty small and tasted ok. I was so disappointed all the way around. Took 2 bites of each of the sides and ate 1 rib, which was mostly bone. Didn't take it home, since I knew I wouldn't eat it. Would not make the drive there to eat again. The bill was almost $60, for food that half of it was inedible. Really been looking forward to checking this place out and it did not disappoint. Stopped in last Thursday with a friend. Took a little bit to get seated but the place had a steady flow of people. Staff was extremely friendly and prompt. Ordered the three meat platter. The ribs and turkey were the stand out meats while the brisket was average. The sides were average at best which is typical for most bbq places. Also added the corny cake and it was the best thing of the night. Always great to see local places giving it a go. read more

Service was good so they get a star for that. Sadly that's were the good news ends. Brisket was bland and tough, the Mac and cheese was also rather bland. The Russell were ok but far too sweet. The cowboy rice was fairly good, but overall low quality food.. I used to love this place, but I think the new owners killed it. I don't plan on returning. read more

Really good BBQ, was back in the Toledo area for a weekend and tried this place out for the first time on a Friday, and by Sunday we were already back again to try brunch. Toledo has been lacking a good BBQ joint for a very long time so this was a welcome addition. The brisket and pulled pork were amazing and the concha sandwich for brunch was extremely unique. I got to meet the owners who were very gracious and kind. I will definitely be returning next time I am back in the area. read more

I was excited to hear Smokey's had reopened as it has always been my favorite place to eat. They always had the best perch, and delicious ribs. So imagine my disappointment when I saw the new menu. No perch, and the sides had changed. I decided to get the ribs since I couldn't get the perch I came for. Then, when looking at the sides, discovered there's now also no baked potato! I could order one as a meal, loaded with a choice of meat for $14, but couldn't get one with just butter as one of my sides. They also did away with their delicious baked beans, changed them to some fancy pinto bean thing. So, I went with what had always been their delicious coleslaw slaw, and then ventured to try their potato salad. Not sure why, but they changed the coleslaw to some fancy thing with a nasty dressing. The potato salad was even worse. The ribs were a disappointment also. Used to get a nice half rack of plump ribs, this time I got 4 very thin, not very big ones. Not sure who's idea it was to take a terrific menu and completely ruin it, but they sure messed up. The ONLY plus to my visit was my server, she was very pleasant and did a good job. What used to be my "go to" restaurant has now been crossed of my list, will NOT be back. read more
