Driving cross Texas we happily happened upon Smokin' Dick's, a small, clean and friendly barbecue joint cleverly decorated with old Formica topped kitchen tables, light fixtures made from old coffee pots, and a hand-painted cactus floor. The woman at the counter recommended a brisket filled baked potato and rib sandwich (with the bones carefully removed). Both were delicious and generous. Sauce tends towards the sweet; meat was tender and savory. Owners and staff made you feel like family guests. A true gem.

Completely unexpected deliciousness in small town Texas! If this was big city place, the line would be out the door with folks waiting to eat! Staff were incredibly nice and helpful! Great country vibe and clean setting! I'll stop by again if in the area!! Do yourself a favor and eat something in this cute little BBQ cafe!

This was one of the best road-trip meals we have ever had. Really friendly people and really good food. We got the halle-lujah sandwich and the Turkey baked potato. Delicious. Definitely worth a stop if you find yourself in Post!

Fun little place. Great and friendly service... and good BBQ. My girls loved Walter... the little old dog out front. (I think he lives around there... everyone knew him by name). We all got Tshirts...

Smoked meats were awesome Texas BBQ. Family owned and operated, service was top notch, the family were so friendly and the homemade sides were amazing. If you're in post you have to stop!! Great ambience and atmosphere and the owners chatted with us while we enjoyed the food.

Could not be nicer people. Have a delicious pickle lemonade - don't be afraid!! The turkey is off the hook. You should prioritize ordering that, legitimately the best smoked turkey I ever had. Brisket is great, can't speak to the pork but I'm from NC so I never order it outside of NC. Parking is tight but they have a drive thru and you can park on the street easy - we had a 28ft RV and street parking was fine.

This is an amazing hidden barbecue gem in west texas!! They have a quaint store and the owners embody southern hospitality. I got the loaded baked potato with brisket and Mac and cheese and it was so good and the peach cobbler was amazing

    Dick a Roni with Brisket

What turned out to be a random stop for us waiting out a storm turned out to be a great sit down dinner! Had the "Dick A Roni" with brisket and was awesome, the brisket was super tender and had a perfect sweet smokey flavor with a little hint of heat, the cheese Mac sitting under the brisket was awesome too! The service was more than incredible, very friendly and kind. Recommend 10/10 for sure, I will most definitely be stopping by whenever I pass through! Thank you for the experience

The brisket was solid and the smoked turkey was the best we've had. The warm corn salad was sweet, creamy and the Hatch Chiles added a nice kick. Shelley was a delightful host. 100% worth stopping in!

Pickled lemonade was something new to me and It was good!! Mac n cheese had some pepper in it and I loved that!! Definitely recommend!! Great food and great service

We stopped here on our way back to Colorado and we are so glad we did! Absolutely huge amazing BBQ brisket sandwiches, potato salad and Fiesta corn. The BBQ is melt in your mouth delicious and flavorful- true good Texas BBQ. The owners were beyond kind and helpful. We will definitely be stopping back in on our way through Post. Look for it right off the highway- a true gem!

Macaroni and cheese with pulled pork, plus some of the brisket that fell out of the sandwich.

As I always do I ordered the brisket burnt ends and the original sides of tater salad and coleslaw (as a honest comparison of the TX Top 50). 1lb of brisket that was the superstar of the tray as it should be. Really good flavor and an even smoke that never was offensive "mesquite bite, hickory bitterness" due to really seasoned oak wood presumably post oak. Sides were fine/traditional ACV style slaw to cut the rich brisket, maybe an egg yoke, dill tater salad that was right on the money. Over all a really good bbq representation of Texas smoked beef, not sure I'd rank 10th in the top 50 but glad to taste what others voted on anyway. I will say the condiments "raw jalapeños" and their layout was a really easy and appreciated change from other bbq joints.

The wait was a little crazy and the staff was clearly out of their element with the booming crowd, but at the end of the day, the food spoke for itself! I'm a 9th gen Texan and love my BBQ. This was the sh*t! It was some of the best brisket I've ever had, seriously. Now people will say, "what place has the best BBQ?" My immediate thought is "clearly they've never had BBQ! As there's literally no place on earth with the best BBQ." If you've eaten your fair share then you know that's a trick question. The better question is, "who has the best brisket, or ribs, or nanner puddin, or whatever." Some places are great and others suck, but no one is the best at all of it. They may be above average or even exceptional, but they will still be better at one meat than another. We had brisket, turkey, beef rib, pulled pork, mild sausage and jalepeno, along with some brisket deviled eggs. Dude! If it were Cajun food, you'd have to slap yo mama. Fortunately it's BBQ so we loosen our belt strap and when we can't eat another bite, we grab the biggest spoon we can find and eat some nanner puddin. It was solid. For sides we had potato salad, cole slaw, mac n cheese and collard greens. Personally, my favorite was the mac n cheese as it was creamy and tasted great, but my friends from Oregon were in TX for the first time and while she had never had collard greens, she couldn't get enough of them and literally went back for thirds. As mentioned, our friends were in from Oregon and had never been to TX not ever had TX BBQ. Shack you did us proud!

Ribs were incredible. Very peppery and basted with a vinegar-based mop sauce. Quite different from The Shack's (Lubbock), which lean more sweet. Sausage was outstanding. Quite possibly the best I've had anywhere. I assume they have it prepared to a proprietary recipe given all the sausage production in and around Slaton. The sides were good, but not as good as the meat. Mustard-based tater salad was of the mashed rather than chunky variety. Good mustard flavor, but I prefer chunky tater salad. Never had fried cabbage before, but this was very good with lots of bacon in it. I'd definitely order it again. Pleasant although primitive atmosphere at this joint. It's located in an ancient gas station/auto repair building and they haven't done anything to fix it up. But it absolutely fits with the food they serve. BBQ ain't alta cucina and in some ways the more rude the setting, the more appropriate it is. At any rate, they played good music--CCR, Fleetwood Mac, America, Dion and the Belmonts, etc. Bottom line, as long as joints as good as Pitforks and Smokerings and The Shack are open in the Lubbock area, I don't see any reason to be bothering with the lines and lack of seating at Evie Mae's. These are the local joints that are getting my cue money for the foreseeable future.
