It was unconscionable that the three tragic events (including the assassination) this week were not mentioned in the sermon. I don't go to church merely for a theatrical performance. When something horrific happens we need some healing. The wonderful and sincere choir director's prayer during the Wednesday rehearsal was the only bit of acknowledgment that was offered in any way for what occurred. She is totally absolved from this critique. We had the shooting of the students, the anniversary of 9/11, and the assassination of Charlie Kirk. The church is not merely a-political. They openly support gay rights and liberal causes, wearing pins on their robes, etc. I'm fine with that, but it does put them in the political dialog. While I understand that many may not agree with Kirk's politics, that could absolutely be addressed while still honoring what happened to him, and acknowledging the deep and profound schism that this creates and amplifies in our country. He was also a fervent promoter of Christianity. Even for his detractors, this event is an epic tragedy and one that we must navigate mindfully. Many of us are very surprised to the degree that we are mourning his death for so many reasons. I felt that mentioning it was purposefully omitted. And if it wasn't, then are all sermons just empty performances? I can't participate with that. I can't donate my time and energy to that. At this time in my life I need to contribute to things that I can do with full integrity. I really have to believe that the omission was a tacit approval of the murder of Charlie Kirk. When something this monumental happens, to avoid denouncing it is equivalent to supporting it. Imagine a church that did not denounce the killing of Martin Luther King? If this give you sick glee, as some of the clergy and parishoners seemed to have that Sunday, then this is your church. Otherwise, I think it is not. At the end of their services they always quote, "never repay evil with evil." The irony is profound.

St. Paul's Episcopal Church is one of the most beautiful Gothic Revival style churches still…read morestanding and is the oldest Episcopal Church in Tennessee. It was built in 1834 and in 1972 was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The church is rich with history that includes being used and abused by Union Soldiers during the Civil War. It was also used as a hospital after the battle of Franklin. Around 1869 St. Paul's was restored and has been serving the community for many years. During my visit I fell in love with the beautiful wood work and the stained glass windows.

The Franklin Cumberland Presbyterian Church building dates back to 1876. I stopped by for a visit…read moreto soak in this historical beauty. The steeple was replaced in the 1940's after a storm destroyed the original and the church was renovated in 1995 but it still holds much of the original feel. The pews with wooden pegs are still being used today. I am in awe of the history and beauty of this church. This church family is a sweet and kind hearted welcoming group. I understand that they are well known for their neighborly love and beautiful music.

I have been looking for awhile for a church home in or around Smyrna. I've been attending Life…read morePoint Church in Smyrna now for about a year now off/on. I love the Pastor Pat....he doesn't really "sugar coat" his sermons and speaks from his heart/soul. I am sure he has stepped on some toes, but then again they probably needed it! I look forward to his sermons and the way he describes txt from the bible in a layman's terms. I like that. Think I have found a home! Everyone I have met here is genuinely friendly. Benny, also a Pastor here has really helped me a lot through some rough times last year with a major surgery and PTSD issues. Not only coming to the hospital but my home several times and spent time with me when I really needed it. If you are looking for a place to call your church home....I HIGHLY recommend Life Point in Smyrna! I live in Smyrna, TN...don't know why it shows CA!

It's a very important decision where to take your family to fellowship and to invest in the community. I've been attending Church of the city in Springhill for the past five years approximately. Pastor Derek and the staff here truly care and treat everyone like family. Our missional, learning, youth, kids, and community groups and projects have all made a huge difference in people's lives. The vision of this church is outward focused and that's how it should be. There's always a sincere well thought out approach to why and how we can interact and share the love of Jesus with our community and with eachother. I'm on the virtual prayer team and I used to help with the youth as a girls leader (but my life schedule changed with a baby)-and from first hand experience, the staff and volunteers are truly committed to walking with people on their journeys, even the hard ones. Our pastor makes a point to always extend connecting and meeting people after service no matter how exhausted he might feel. Our community events are awesome, the people are too. I just love it! Come visit if you've never been...it could just be the home you never had.
