I love this place! My boyfriend (whoops...fiance!) just proposed this past weekend and he gave me an absolutely gorgeous three stone halo engagement ring from SN Queens. Some of the other places we went to felt dirty and cramped or were on the complete other end of the spectrum - way too bright with that harsh lighting that makes even crappy diamonds sparkle, but...SN Queens was perfect. The women that worked with us were super nice and friendly but not overly so and we never felt like they were pressuring us. They answered all our questions and were very knowledgeable about all things diamonds. So, after a very easy and pleasant experience, we ended up with a gorgeous ring. Yay! Also, they don't just sell engagement rings! They also make fabulous earrings and necklaces that aren't the typical diamond solitaire pendant mall jewelry store stuff. They have alot of vintage and vintage-inspired pieces that are just beautiful. Gals & Gents: This is a long post but, let's be honest: if you're shopping for a diamond, then it's worth reading a little bit extra, don't you think? So here's the bottom line to begin - if you are in the market for a vintage ring (not a ring that was made to look vintage but is ACTUALLY from the 1930's or 1940's), SN Queens is the place to go. Period. "Hey, wait a minute," you say, "I've been told to go check out places like 'Wanna Buy a Watch' and "Single Stone' and "Icing on the Rock' and others, so why should I trust you?!?" Good question. And here's the answer: because I went to all of those other places too. + Wanna Buy a Watch was really great and I almost bought our engagement ring there, but the prices were just barely too high. Great staff and selection though. And I did get my father's old rolex repaired there. I'd recommend them second. + Single Stone was upscale, professional, got us lattes and... way too over-priced. We worked with a nice guy named Ari there who's very smart. + We walked into Icing on the Rock and then promptly turned and left: bad energy. Ew. #fail But SN Queens....? It started with stupid luck. My fiancee and I went downtown to the jewelry district to look at rings and just get an idea as to what we both liked. We randomly began our adventure by walking into the ground floor of a jewelry "mart": where several vendors have display booths but all share the same roof. The first booth featured an old Russian lady who was chewing crackers while trying to talk with us. The discussion didn't last long. But the second booth was... SN Queens. And, I shit you not, within about ten minutes they had three rings out that we both really liked. A lot. Which confused us. I mean, it was the FIRST place we'd visited and what the fuck did we know?! We couldn't understand that what we were seeing then was as good as it turned out to be. So... we said thanks, left and then hit the other places I mentioned. And, during that time, I got educated on rings, something I highly recommend. Things like cut, color, clarity, carat & the often overlooked FIFTH "C": certifications - GIA, EGL. We quickly decided that we both LOVED actual vintage/estate rings. But I wanted a certified stone. From that era, you can only get EGL certified stones as the GIA wasn't yet established. But those diamonds are harder to find. So you have to ask for them. Which I did. And, as luck would have it, I had a few days of jury duty downtown, so I went back to SN Queens and -- now armed with knowledge of what we wanted in a ring -- asked if they had what I was seeking. They had a few rings and said they could bring in a few more. Later, that weekend, my fiancee & I both went back -- this time in their brand new and more upscale showroom on another floor in the same building -- and tried on two vintage rings. And one of them is the one I gave my fiancee four months ago. We still stare at that ring and love it a lot. I worked with both Gina and Sylva, one of the owners. Both women were knowledgeable, patient, understanding, kind, fun and extremely helpful in every way. i got calls back quickly, even from Gina when she was off from work and needed to ring me from her cell just to answer a few questions. And, I have to tell you, having looked at the inventory of other places: SN Queens' prices are amazingly fair and, in some cases, far better than what you'll find elsewhere. Add free lifetime cleanings, a free size adjustment after I gave my fiancee the ring and you just can't beat these guys. I am a retail girl to the core, I don't discount shop or bargain hunt, and I was terrified at the prospect of the LA Jewelry District, but after I got engaged a friend convinced me to go with her to look at her favorite spots. They have beautiful jewelry but the craftsmanship is not up to par. My husband purchased my engagement ring here 6 years ago and I've had to take it in at least 5 different times for a lost or loose diamond. And of course you have to pay for the mistakes they've made in making the ring. My matching band has already lost its engraving on both sides. Before you purchase, ask about all these details and what they will offer you to fix it. I had no idea what I wanted, but Sylva was super sweet and patient, and by the end of our walk-in visit, I was pretty confident. I ended up ordering the ring over the phone, and it came 2 weeks after as promised. Sylva was not only super friendly, but she was great at explaining how different settings are made and why one type would be better for me than another. As others have said, the jewelry district is overwhelming. When my fiance and I started looking for rings we had no idea where to start. It is by chance (and a lot of help from Yelp) that we strolled through the doors of SN Queens. Most places we went tried to sell us diamonds that were way out of our price range without ever asking what we wanted. It was an intimidating and frustrating experience not to mention the endless cases of hideous settings. First, we wandered into Single Stone, which we quickly found to be out of our league. Shortly after that we heard about SN Queens and decided to give it a shot. We wanted to find an estate piece, and were certain we would be unable to afford anything custom after browsing at Single Stone. The women at SN Queens, however, were fantastic. They took the time to talk to us about what we wanted before trying to sell us anything. Soon, we found a diamond, showed them a picture of something we liked, and had a ring in the works. We wound up with a beautiful custom ring for a significantly better price than something of very similar size that we had eyed at Single Stone. Since getting the ring, SN Queens has been great with resizing, appraising, and just making sure we were happy with the final product. I will definitely give them my business in the future. One negative, which made me debate giving them 4 stars: Deal directly with Silva or Gina when you're there. Starting out my fiancé did not know any style of ring she wanted, so we decided to the "World Biggest Engagement Ring Store" To look. This is where she fell in love with a Coast Halo Style Diamond. What I did not fall in love with the price! They wanted Eight thousand for the complete band! I almost fell on the floor and had a seizure with that price! Being that I am on a tight budget, I felt deeply upset that I could not buy the ring right then and there without losing my left kidney. I was told to hold off and talk to the family jeweler. tHe family jeweler said he has seen this style before but did not say the right style or company it was from and offered me a very cloudy stone. You'll never forget when you see your fiancé's face after she looks like she may have to settle on a style and diamond she does not want. I decided to ask around and everyone recommended Los Angeles' Jewelry District and thus my trip to SN Queens Begins: When you first enter the Diamond/Jewelry District in LA, your head may explode because of how many Jewelers there are! I literally did not know where to start! So I just went down the block, looking from booth to booth, until I got to the end where I would make my decisions. The last booth I went to was SN Queens. I met Sima, owner and wife of the crafter. I asked to look at her halo style rings which her selection was great. But it was not what I was looking for. When she asked exactly what I saw, I pulled out the picture of the ring that I had received from the "World's Biggest Engagement Ring Store". Sima, off the bat, knew exactly what type of ring it was spouting out "That's a coast halo, my husband used to make them in Paris!" It was like a choir of angels had started singing she even knew about the two "Peek-a-boo" stones on the bottom of the halo. Sima then told me she can design this ring and pulled out a stone that was Amazing! The stone was perfect for this ring! It was a carrot with a wide face to make it look like its larger, and its color and clarity was right was I looking for! The feather was on the bottom of the stone, so when you put the stone into the setting it was near flawless. When it came down to the price Sima quoted me a very, very, reasonable price of 3900. Out the door! She understood that I was on a tight budget and understood young love, and how tough it was to buy engagement rings. She had no pressure on me what so ever, she was very kind, caring and wanted me to feel comfortable. I took a lunch break and thought it over, and checked on Yelp! SN Queens reviews were flawless! I put a down payment on the ring in and it was ready in a couple of months. The girls of SN Queens treated me well and kept me informed with every step of the process. From the molding to the casting! When I picked the ring up, it was beautiful! They gave me a cute little box and some cleaner and instructed me how to clean it. Extremely professional, service-oriented jeweler. We came here specifically for their expertise with "vintage" pieces/styles, and came away extremely impressed. Gina and Sylva worked with me to both find the right diamond and design/cast a custom ring in the style that we wanted. The things that make me rate SNQ a 5 are: (i) nice, stylish showroom (also not super large, so you're guaranteed to immediately get service); (ii) truly warm, but professional personalities (this cannot be understated; I never got the feeling that they were either trying to "sell" me too hard or be too friendly/casual); (iii) Really worked with me to find the right diamond (eventually bringing down our initial price estimate to a price very comparable to online wholesalers); and (iv) Meeting my deadlines and staying well within my budget, despite the busy holiday season (for jewelers). SNQ also has a downstairs set-up (on the ground floor) that had a fair selection of pieces, but I wasn't really looking for a "stock" set-up. If you are looking for either (i) vintage pieces or (ii) a custom piece with some vintage-inspired touches, this is absolutely a place you need to check out. For reference, we initially loved some of the styles we saw over at Icing On The Ring and Single Stone, and were able to combine those styles into a custom ring at SNQ using (i) a nicer center diamond than at either (personal preference, went with clarity over size) and (ii) overall, well below Single Stone and around IOTR's prices. What a treat! My lady and I had spent the day in the jewelry district trying to find an engagement ring that we liked. After hours of "Come look a this!" and "Hey, let me show you this!" we were about ready to call it a day. We were really looking for a vintage ring that had character and unique beauty and none of the jewelers had anything outside of the generic rings that we could find at Zales. We decided to check yelp on a lark and see what jewelers might be close and stumbled upon SN Queens. Sylva was a breath of fresh air. She offered us coffee and water and let us take our time viewing the amazing case of unique and beautiful vintage rings. She asked us questions about what we liked and was far more gentle and easy going in her approach. Turns out they work primarily in wholesale and were only open to the public to do showings of some of their designs, thus there was no need to be pushy. After a lovely conversation and chatting we found two amazing rings that we couldn't decide between. Sylva put them on hold for us and told us to sleep on it. She recommended come back once the sparkles from all the diamonds had worn off and we could see clearly. Six days later we have an amazing ring that my lady can't stop showing off and talking about. For your jewelry needs there is no place better to go to then downtown in the jewelry district. And SN Queens is the place to go to downtown. You can try else where but if any of you have ever been downtown it is overwhelming. That's how I felt the very first time I decided to go downtown. I didn't know where to start so I just started at one end and worked my way around. I quickly found this to be impossible!!! There are just too many jewelers!!!! Then thoughts started to pour into my head about...which stores are actually reputable? How is the quality and craftsmanship of the jewelry they sell? Do they stand behind what they sell? Will I get ripped off? I took a step back and decided to do more research. So... naturally I turned to Yelp!!! I basically looked at all the 5 star ratings for downtown jewelers on yelp and wrote their information down. Then on another day I went back to downtown to visit all these places. I was looking for the perfect diamond engagement setting, which I have been trying to find for over a year and a half (I got the diamond from my fiance but I still needed it to be set!). So... I literally went to every store that was rated 5 or better on yelp. However, most of these places tended to carry similar types of jewelry and their prices seemed to vary quite a bit for what looked exactly the same. In addition, despite the massive selection of diamond settings and jewelry I couldn't find a setting that was perfect for me. I was quite disappointed about the selection. Nothing I saw seemed to really catch my eye. And so I was about to just give up until I came across the SN Queens jewelry window. Seriously... this was the absolute last place I looked. And I am so glad I decided to drop in despite this store not being on my initial yelp-shopping list. SN Queens has the most amazing and unique jewelry that you can't find anywhere else in the jewelry district! Trust me I have looked all over!!!!! This is a family owned store that has been here for over 20 years!!! So they really know something about jewelry. Sylva one of the owners and jewelry designers is who you need to talk to when you come here. She is so knowledgeable and patient! She is sure to help you find exactly what you are looking for within your budget! There is absolutely no sales pressure here. Trust me I stopped by the store 4 or 5 times before I placed my order! I had to check if they were rated on yelp first! And they were!!! 5 Stars!!! SN Queens stands behind what they deliver, which is superior quality and craftsmanship. I finally found my engagement setting and it is absolutely gorgeous. I am so utterly happy!!! I couldn't wipe the grin off my face or stop staring at how beautiful my engagement ring looked after it was set and polished. SN queens is were I will definitely be returning to for all my jewelry needs in the future. They have amazing settings (a must see to believe) and their selection of jewelry is out of this world. My fiance and I picked our my engagement ring together on the day he proposed! I was a little bit overwhelmed there were so many diamond jewelers to choose from downtown. Luckily, he had done some research ahead of time and had already gone to look at antique and vintage rings. We went to several places that he had already checked out. It is supposed to be something fun and special but the truth is, I just felt like everyone we spoke to was putting pressure on us to buy a more expensive ring. I am very cost aware and really didn't want us to start our loves out in debt. But the snobbery and pushiness I found at so many places made it hard to know if we were getting taken for a ride. Then we walked into SN Queens... They immediately put me at ease and when I told them my price range, they didn't turn up their noses or ever try to push us into spending more. This was such a relief. They had so many beautiful rings and their prices were by far the best. They really listened to what I wanted and we walked out with the perfect ring. It's is the original setting and stone and is a platinum solitaire from the 1930's that came from Russia. I love knowing that my ring has some history. Additionally, they service, clean and care for the ring for life. I know 5 people who have bought their rings from SN Queen and we are going back soon to pick out our bands.
