Oktoberfest here in Utah? Yes, please! The annual event has the interest of anyone that loves beer, amazing views, and a taste of German culture! Even if you don't drink, this is a fun event for everyone, including kids! There are a lot of activities to do including roaming around shops, climbing a ropes course, riding the alpine slides, listening to live music, and eating German food. I tried the uber pretzel (Uber is the right word) and the German Chocolate Cake. Both were delicious! The beer experience here is also different, if you want to drink, you have to purchase a glass and the beer (2 different prices) and each time you refill your beer, you only pay the beer cost. They had 3 different sizes, 34oz (large stein), 22oz (smaller stein) and 16oz (glass beer can). Admission is free to get in and they are open between August to mid- October. Parking is $15 per car or you can reserve a space ok their free shuttle with pick up from the park and ride. Great experience overall and can't wait to go back! read more

Here are a few things l learned: * Arrive early to get better parking and avoid long lines. * Free parking is on the street, paid parking ($12) in the lots. * Plan on walking a good amount-this isn't the time for your "cute" shoes. * Bring an empty water bottle-there's a free water station inside to refill. * Dress for any weather. Oktoberfest at Snowbird was so unique and awesome! There are vendors, food and tons of drink options. We came on a Saturday and the lines were long but mostly moved fast. The weather was FANTASTIC, and that likely caused some larger crowds than normal. Ironically for us, the lines were shorter at the German beer tent! I was so happy to find some of my favorite German beers, and the staff at that tent were so friendly. I loved dressing up and exploring the festival grounds. I was a little surprised more people weren't dressed up, but that's just because I never miss an opportunity to enjoy some of my cultural heritage. Prices seemed typical for a festival. I think there could be a better vendor selection (a few cool jewelry booths, then lots of pyramid shopping with some tshirts and other sun dries thrown in - having more home decor/arts and crafts would have suited the mood betted). We didn't try any food but we're planning to sneak back today (Sunday) for a donor kebab! The selection of food looked great! read more

Ticket lift to summit $40. Hot dogs $17 Bad pretzels $15 Brats $17 Beer? Must buy a $14 glass plus beers start at $12. Stupid. Water $6. Plus they want 10,15,20% tips! lol. For nothing. No cash excepted because employees steal the money. It's basically a flea market, folks selling junk. Family of four would spend $500 for a few hours of nothing. Honestly i didn't love it. I remember having fun in 2018 but yesterday was just lines and crowds. There was an unbelievable amount of people there, so there were 10+ minute lines for beer, food, bathrooms, etc. not to mention if you wanted to do the gondola (we skipped this). Lovely weather and views but honestly I can drink beer outside on my own time without having to wait 15 minutes for the privilege of using a portapotty. I'm also a bit flummoxed by the hours. I suppose it's to prevent drunk driving, but 12-6 seems like bizarre timing? The one I'm familiar with in Columbus, Ohio goes way into the night. But that might be too raucous for Utah. The German food from the festival tent was honestly terrible. I think they have salt in Germany, and vinegar too. After waiting 20 minutes we were stunned at how bland it was. The music in the festival tent was definitely the best thing about the experience. So fun to hear the polka bands and see the older folks dancing! I enjoyed sitting in there and listening to the music. If I go again I will try a much earlier weekend, I assume the crowds were because we went on a Saturday in October. read more

Raised the price of refills by 4.00 for s#*tty 5% beer that would cost you 3.00 at the local bar. The food was absolutely terrible.. 24.00 for schnitzel that I wouldn't feed to my worst enemy. So fun this year. We have been in years past but I feel like this year topped it off. The music was awesome. Traditional German theme topped off with the lederhosen. They had super fun dancing, kids games, and adult games including hamershulagen and a super fine game with hard boiled eggs. I would like to point out the fact that I won the hamerschlaugen and won a free tram ride. I would show you my but I don't want to rip my shirt... The beer is expensive but you just have to expect that with events like these. If you want to be cheap just go buy some chips from the vending machines. What can I say but "good memories" about this place. Come for a good time, fresh air, delicious food, and great people. We come every year and it never lacks in excellent mountain ambience. There are lots of kids activities, as well as great German food. Take the tram up to hidden Peak and you will not be disappointed. The only issue is price, everything is pretty pricey, so don't expect to spend a dollar or two. read more

Oktoberfest is an incredible experience and I hope everyone decides to go at least once. I do think there is a good amount of pros and cons to Oktoberfest but I still think it is a really cool event. First, I will make the same complaint that everyone else makes. The cost here is ridiculous honestly. It's a free event but you have to pay $10 for parking. I understand the concept behind this but I think it is pretty difficult to park at the bottom of the mountain and rely on the trolley. Especially if you're like me and had somewhere to be after. Now for a good thing about the event, I do appreciate the staff involved. The parking lot people were nice, the bus drivers were nice, and I really appreciated the security people checking everyone's bags at the front. Really, the staff was awesome. Another con is another thing with the price. Once you get inside the event, you will notice how jacked up everything is. The beer is $10 but also you're going to need some kind of goblet to hold the substance in so you need to pay another $10-$15 for that. Both are pretty unreasonable prices for what you're getting. I get it's a cool souvenir but it still isn't worth the price. In addition, any other merchandise you want to get is going to run you yet another crazy price--the most basic shirts would run you about $40 a piece. I got thirsty and thought about getting a bottle of water but I couldn't justify paying $5 for dasani out of all brands. Now for another pro (I am really trying to keep this review balanced here lol), the amenities are incredible. They have a wide variety of food and it's almost hard to choose just one or two places to eat. They have all kinds of German based dishes but they also have your classic American foods and drinks. They have local vendors, they have Snowbird staff, they have Snowbird activities. It really is an incredible place with all kinds of things to see and do. Another con coming up...the food was not all that great. Generally, I love the dishes they were serving but when you get it at Snowbird, I find it to be very mediocre. I got a bratwurst and it was okay but just had a weird flavor and texture to it (and again, I like bratwursts generally so this isn't any kind of weird bias against the food itself). Also, the bratwurst was so big that the bun was pretty much pointless and I didn't even eat it with the sausage lol. For my drink, I got the pumpkin beer and lemme just say...it didn't taste like pumpkin at all. I don't know what made them call it a pumpkin ale because you cannot taste it whatsoever lol. I also didn't know that there was free whipped cream so I would definitely get that next time. Many people were getting the garlic fries, they looked and smelled so good that I decided to buy me some. The garlic fries were one of those things that didn't taste nearly as good as they smell. They tasted very bland but I will say the texture wasn't all that bad. I wasn't a fan of charging money for sauces just to fill the cup up 1/8 of the way but I did appreciate the fry sauce. I still stand by what I said and still think Oktoberfest is an incredible experience. I do plan on going next year but I am bringing my own cup and going on a day that I have less of a time crunch so I can hopefully put $10 towards anything but parking in a spot. Cheers! read more

Still going strong after all these years! This has become a mainstay of hte fall scene here in SLC, or more accurately, in Little Cottonwood Canyon. In some ways, nothing has changed, in some ways, it's just so different every year. I really think the biggest factor of its success is the weather. This year it's just gorgeous, the leaves are just changing, and it's been so warm in SLC that the canyon is a nice getaway. Some years you really need to bundle up. Some things are consistent: lots of beer, lots of festive folks, and an attempt at German food and atmosphere. Why the band was playing Mexican music... I have no idea. But the German theme is, you know, loose at best. I've planned large-scale events (though never this large) and know how time-consuming they can be, and that always equals costs. But just know ahead of time that you're going to be $10 in for parking, and if you're drinking, your first drink (where you have to buy your glass/mug) is going to set you back almost $20 (depending on what you choose) and then refills start at something like $8.50 a pop. It's a beautiful place, and since I wasn't drinking I felt a little better about dropping $15 on lunch, and there's enough to walk around and see for a little while. Plus the shops there are open, and there's ice cream downstairs, don't forget. Not a bad way to spend part of your weekend. read more

This is a tradition I have been adhering to for 15 years! My family goes each year for the entertainment and the food, and the nostalgia keeps us coming back. It's so fun to see local vendors there, as well as take the tram up the mountain to see the basin. Of course, the prices are very expensive for everything-- parking, food, water. This is my first time back at Oktoberfest since pandemic. It was great participating in the festival atmosphere while enjoying the good weather. If you have mugs from previous years, remember to bring them to save some upfront cost of buying a new mug for beer. Refill is still expensive (14.79 with tax for a 22oz refill). The classic food is decent nothing to write home about in the big food tent. There are food trucks and restaurants at the resort for additional options. Highly recommend trying out some cocktails which can be found on the upper level of the festival. Personal favorites during the whole day: pretzels with nacho cheese for snack; brats for entree, half black and pumpkin for beer, and glitter mango mule for cocktails. Would definitely come back every year if given the chance. read more

We waited in line to park for over an hour, and once we were told to pull forward we passed the parking sales as we already had a ticket from the prior lot that was PAID FOR. After passing the booth, security was called and called the police told us we were not able to park there and we needed to leave as we were "disrespectful to employees" WOW! We wanted to like this so much. I'm hoping it was maybe less than stellar due to the pandemic. It's a lovely atmosphere of course. The mountains are beautiful and the weather lovely. The first however: There's only a handful of vendors, and none of them had any wares that remotely resembled anything German. The food in the big tent was based on German foods but sadly was super bland and nothing like the traditional dishes we are used to. The späetzle tasted like mushy cardboard with cafeteria gravy. The schnitzel was generic and had the same gravy. The bratwurst was probably the best thing, and it could have been from any supermarket. The apple strudel was cold and lifeless and again tasted like your average grocery store takeaway. There was a German band in the tent so at least the music was there. We bought a souvenir wine glass which was just a wine brand, not Oktoberfest. The sort of cheap promotional glass a vendor usually gives you for free when you purchase their beverage. It contained apple cider with a shot of Fireball and a cinnamon stick which was probably the best thing we had there. Idk, if it weren't for the pandemic, it may be an okay place to hang out with friends and drink all day. But the food was truly terrible and there was not much of an Oktoberfest atmosphere. read more

It's the same shit every year. A lot of people heading towards snowbird buying expensive beer and food and people watching! Yeah there is fun live music stuffed in a tent sharing food sales so it's like an oven in there! Do I get a chicken dance in there? I sure do! Food is never warm or good. Even the potatoes weren't cooked all the way through ,yuck! This year I spent $35 for a stein of beer but I guess I get to keep the mug and just have to buy beer next time so don't forget your mugs for future trips. Unfortunately it was so hot the beer would get warm half way. I mean 93 degrees in the sun for 3 and half hours was ridiculous. My son didn't even do any of the rides as he never has for some reason. The tram ride had a two hour wait. Panning for gold was the funnest thing we did but maybe they can add umbrellas so u don't cook under the sun. Omg. There are the usual retail stands selling overpriced junk from clothes to art. Oh btw it's $10 parking fee just to get in a mile radius of the event. All in all it's usually nice when it's cool up in the mountains. It's more bearable to eat shitty food,warm beer, and sit in a oven. Everything is expensive too so expect spending money!!! If I had one piece of advice is get a pretzel with beer cheese it's delicious and worth the $9! Also try to enjoy nature. We found a really cool caterpillar and held it and put it back in the woods. The best Oktoberfest in Utah -- and maybe in all the West -- can be found at a ski resort in the Wasatch Range in the clean mountain air just 30 minutes from SLC. The best part is it starts in mid September ... and runs from mid-AUGUST (!) through mid-October. I find myself going two to three times each year. Good news: Free Admission. Bad news: Parking usually runs around $5. Good news about the bad news: It'll be totally worth it just spending a few minutes at Snowbird Oktoberfest. Obviously, the main attraction will be the München Biergarten ... the Beer Garden. I highly recommend purchasing a "Liter Stein" which in-turn offers discounted refills. If you're a beer lover but are driving back down the mountain, they also have a mug. My favorite part, obviously, is the authentic German food. For taste, it holds up with the best German food in Utah (which is, in my opinion, Siegfried's Deli). You'll find the best stuff in in the Oktoberfest Hall: Spätzle, brats and weisswurst, sauerkraut, schnitzel, rouladen (bacon, onions, mustard, and pickles ... wrapped in BEEF!), paprika chicken, chocolate cake, Bavarian waffles, and pomme frites (not German, but with fries this good, I ain't arguing!). You'll also find bands playing in the hall. I can't remember the names, but if you like accordions, Glockenspiels, Alphorns, tubas, and being forced to do the Chicken Dance, have I got the place for you! I recommend saving it for a good-weather weekend (which is most weekends this time of year). Along with a lot of vendors (both arts & crafts as well as Oktoberfest stuff), you'll find a lot of kid- and family-friendly activities. One of my personal favorites are the alpine slide (which turns a winter toboggan run into a slide. It's fast enough to be fun, slow enough to be safe for the kids. And you'll get an amazing view on the Peruvian Chairlift. Kids will especially like the face-painting, mountain coaster, ropes course, and tree climb. If you want to watch the local Germans go all out, GRAND Oktoberfest is on Labor Day weekend every year. But, of course, every weekend is Grand at Snowbird's Oktoberfest! read more

And I paid $2 more for a pretzel bun. $14.50 for $3 worth of food? Parking is going to cost you $10 if you can't find a spot on the road. Did I mention it's the same stuff as in years past? Not worth it in my opinion. 3 stars because it is a Utah tradition celebrating beer. otherwise it would have gotten just one. Do this instead. Drive up to Alta with Spotify set to October fest music. Go on a hike and actually enjoy being outside. Then go to porcupine grill for a heaping brat and other German foods and beer. You'll save a ton, you'll have a belly full of great food and beer, and still get your fest on. read more

So many people. Not worth the money. Look, I've been coming to this for a while and the problem now is simply that there are too many people in too small of an area. I still remember my first time--2004 and it was small and unobtrusive. If only I'd known the gem I had back then. These days it's worse than some terrible attraction like Lagoon. The majority of the beer is 4% and the lines are interiminable. If you want to participate in any of the "attractions" be prepared to wait for 40 minutes to an hour. I love that so many people are into beer and fun in the mountains. I really do. And for German food in Utah, it's better than crap brewpubs that think they're German. It's simply that you will pay $55 for an all inclusive pass and possibly be able to endure one line to make it worth the cost. It needs an overhaul. Maybe more, Utah needs a competiving festival in another nearby resort to thin the crowds at this one. read more

So here we go on a rainy Sunday with the family to Oktoberfest. WTF. Food was horrific. Spent $90 for 3 people to eat Walmart grade food. So maybe it's the ambience. Not!!! Freakin polka cover band with A bunch of Valley-based people who are obviously more drunk at altitude and thought they were at a party. Never again!!! Go to Siegfried's, then drive up the canyon for a hike. Much better food and a much better time will be had. read more

One of the worst Oktoberfest events I have ever been to. Overpriced, no good German food, beer is about what you would expect in Utah, and all of the activities in the area are super expensive (typical mountain resort). All you are left with are a few generic event style food locations, expensive low quality beer, a few art tents, some low quality live music to listen to while you drink your overpriced beer and watch others walk around. And if you want to actually go watch the only German thing, the alpenhorns on top of the mountain, you have to pay 40 dollars to ride the tram. And don't even get started on the terrible parking. Always a good time. We have a timeshare at the Cliff that usually is at the same time as Oktoberfest. We've probably been here 20 times over 30 years. You can count on it to be consistent every year. There's also a core group of people that have been here all the time every year. In no way can you compare this to the original Oktoberfest in Munich. That's good, and bad. It tries to be the same level of party, and crowd, but it will never be. That's OK. The food is good. The beer is generally 3.2 weak since all draft beer has to be 3.2 by law. In a good year, the weather is good, and there is a grass area to the East with beer service and games to play. Most importantly, is the easy chairs to relax with the beer. That's what Oktoberfest in the mountains should be all about. The food is pretty good, but it's not the primary draw. The bands and relaxing in the open grass is the primary draw for me. read more

If you want to drink beer in the mountains with your friends and enjoy the changing fall colours then you should check out the snowbird Oktoberfest. The festival that runs on weekends from mid August through October at the snowbird ski resort. There are tons of beverage tents with many local beer options as well as German imports. For all of my gluten allergy friends, there are drink tents on the upper deck offering a selection of white and red German wines as well as local ciders. The food tent has a wide range of German food options from bratwurst, to schnitzel, to rosti, to Bavarian soft pretzels. If you are not feeling adventurous to try some German cuisine, there are other food vendors that are serving up smoked meat, French fries, dippin dots and waffles. The only downside to the festival is the traffic coming down the mountain at the end of the day...make sure you leave before the 6 pm closing or be ready to sit in an hour long train of traffic back down to the base of the mountain. read more

I always look forward to Oktoberfest at Snowbird. It usually runs from mid-August to around mid-October. That's 2 whole months! I could hardly believe it the first time I heard about it, especially since this is also such a large event in Utah of all places! Parking is $5 per car so I would recommend carpooling. Admission to the event itself is free though. It's from noon-6:30pm on Saturdays and Sundays and I'd recommend getting there earlier rather than later to get a good parking spot. That being said, the walk to the event from the lot isn't bad and they have shuttles to take people to and from the lot if you're feeling tired or lazy. They have a bunch of German food in the main tent. That, along with the music in there really sets the mood and ambiance. They have a large selection of draft beer (also cider if that's your preference), and you need to purchase a glass/mug in order to get a drink. Last year when I went, I opted for beer in a plastic cup (like one of those water cooler ones) because I didn't want to buy a glass. However, this year when I went, they said that wasn't an option, so I was forced to buy a glass. I got the cheapest/smallest one, which was already around $8, and then I had to pay for the beer itself. If you've purchased a glass/mug in the past, they'll refill that so you only have to pay for the beer. They won't let you use non-Snowbird Oktoberfest mugs/glasses though - I know because I tried. You're not getting a deal on the beer (especially since it's draft) but considering admission is free, and the atmosphere is fun/relaxing with the ambiance and being up in the mountains, I'd say it balances out (at least somewhat). This year, I went on the first day of Oktoberfest and it seemed like they still needed to sort out some kinks. The workers I interacted with didn't seem like they knew what was going on and had to ask other people. The cashier for one of the beer stations was entering in everyone's tips as soon as she got the receipt back, which really held up the line. There's a reason you don't do those in the moment - you don't want people just standing there waiting to pay and watching you do that. How do you expect to do that when it gets really busy? I'm going again in a couple of weeks so hopefully they'll have everything figured out and it'll go more smoothly. Other than the main tent, there's also some food stations, like fries (love the garlic fries!), waffles, and a general food station on the deck. If you want full strength German beer, they have that too on the deck - it's just a lot more expensive and personally I don't know if it's worth it. Overall, I'd recommended getting a group of friends together and checking it out. It's a fun experience and the weather is really nice so it's a great weekend event!
