Of the three though, I would consider my stay at Macquarie Manor to be the best of the lot. This hotel is located in the Hobart CBD on Macquarie Street. It is not at the corner, but a couple buildings away from it and across the street from the Travelodge. Part of the reason why I decided to book this hotel was that it was a boutique heritage hotel. The building was built in 1875 and has Edwardian architecture. It was originally the home of a surgeon and then used as a venue of Hobart's high society so there is a lot of history in these walls. Upon arriving to the hotel for my stay, I checked in at the lounge area in front of the dining room. The hotel's dining room restaurant is affiliated with Nant, a local whisky distillery. Going back to why I booked this hotel, the other reason was that the rooms are huge. I got a standard room that was over 300 square feet with high ceilings and space for an elegant sofa and table. My room was actually in the annex part of the hotel as an extension was built to expand on the original building. Heading up to my room, I had to go through an annex walkway. It is unheated, so it was quite cold during the winter. The room's bathroom was also a bit chilly, so I would close it to contain the warm air when you turn the room's heater on. The room was the most comfortable one that I stayed in. Mostly because of the size. The room's interior and bathroom still looks rather new like they did a renovation recently. As for the cons, the free hotel Wi-Fi wasn't working well in my room for most of my stay. I had to head into the main building to get a good connection to login. And I was unable to try out the restaurant during my stay as it seemed like they were having staffing issues. It was the winter season, so that was understandable. Still it would have been nice to have been able to stay in and enjoy a steak and whisky dinner here when it was cold out. The Wi-Fi and restaurant issue were minor though compared to the billing issue that I had to deal with after my stay. I pre-paid for the room prior to my stay, but I noticed a double charge on my credit card after I returned back to Seattle. After going back and forth with the hotel about this snafu without success, I contacted the online travel agency I booked the room through to resolve the problem with the hotel. The charge was refunded, but it left a bad taste about my stay here. If there was an issue, I feel it should have been brought up during my stay or upon checkout. Overall, I liked my stay for the most part at Macquarie Manor. The location is great and the size of the rooms plus the historical aspect of the building are key selling points. Though given the billing issue I dealt with, I would recommend booking directly through the hotel's website rather than a travel agency.

Pros: -really liked the look and feel of the building and spaces-a cool mix of old and new.. our room on 2nd (really third) and top floor-213- had exposed ancient beams and a metal roof above the soaring ceiling -location in the center of the harbor was a plus with lots of restaurants nearby -I slept well in the firm comfortable bed with great pillows -the quiet, powerful AC got the room nice and cool and was controlled by an intuitive, straightforward thermostat -we had breakfast included in our rate and the buffet included a choice of hot items-my wife like the avo toast with poached eggs and the waffle with fresh seasonable raspberry was also nice -the staff is very helpful and friendly -on-site hotel restaurants and IXL bar were quite nice Opportunities: -our room included breakfast but the 7 am start was a bit late for us one morning -power access by the bed for charging gadgets was limited in our room to a plug in the headboard of the bed-far from ideal spot -Wi-Fi in our room and lobby was rather weak and slow -room was quite dark overall Bottom line: this is a unique and beautiful hotel in a great location with a great staff. While Wi-Fi was well below today's standards, the rooms are clean, comfortable and well appointed. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

We enjoyed exploring the property - an old jam factory, to 500 pieces of art throughout the hotel. And then to April for everything she took care of seamlessly for our stay, coordinating a local winery tour, tickets and ferry to MONA - everything was perfect for our stay. We ended up walking to and back from Templo, which I really didn't mind since I grew up in San Francisco and is used to walking up and down a ton of hills, but it can be inconvenient. The breakfast here is great and my hubby loves the cafe lattes here! They recently brought on a new head chef who was previously at Saffire, so I'm sure the food is going to get even better than it already is!

Service is okay; not stellar. Free wifi that's a reasonable speed to help bang out your Yelp reviews is helpful. There are some good deals to be had while Covid restrictions are still technically in place- if you can grab a bargain price, why not? Just try and get a renovated room!

While there we dined at the Chinese restaurant Kwan Ho, the food and service were tremendous not to mention they sat us within view of the harbor so that was a nice plus for us as we were visiting from the US. One issue with the restaurant was that it was a pretty warm day I think the news said they broke a very old record in Hobart, and it felt as though the air conditioner didn't work. I was hot and uncomfortable during our entire meal. I felt worse for the poor workers in the restaurant since they are decked out in black uniforms. I'd definitely recommend eating at the Chinese restaurant if you're visiting. Its a bit pricey but was well worth it.

There was a bathtub and separate shower and a very large closet area. They offered all amenities you would need and had a nice selection of snacks and drinks, and the bed was very comfortable. This hotel has a downstairs restaurant as well as a tapas restaurant located right next door. They offer a exercise room as well as a self serve laundry or hotel dry cleaning service. But the star service at this hotel are the people. Everyone we met was amazingly kind, attentive and helpful. That service made this a 5 star hotel!

After checking in, you can take the elevator upstairs to your rooms. Unfortunately they don't air condition the public space but they keep the windows open on both sides. That allows a breeze to come through on either side. However once you step into the room, you can control the thermostat yourself. Each room features a Tasmanian individual. Read about their biography on your door and familiarize yourself with some Tasmanian history! Inside, the rooms are modern, spacious and comfortable eliciting the same response you probably had when you first walked into the lobby. Love the wood they use to decorate and really makes you feel at peace as you stay there. The tap water is safe to drink and much better tasting than anything you can get in the US! The hotel itself is just a 10 min walk to the Salamanca market and about a 15 min walk to anything else downtown in Hobart. There are many restaurants and art galleries around for those looking to take home some local souvenirs. The hotel is also fund raising for the bush fires so you can purchase a plush koala, wombat or tassie devil and all the money goes to charities helping with the ramifications of the wild fires. Internet is available here but really slow and difficult to connect to (encourages you to get out of your room and actually explore Tasmania). I really enjoyed my stay here in Hobart and I look forward to any future opportunities to travel here again!

There Friendly, polite and accommodating. My only gripe as far as the hotel goes? No parking. You have to either park on the street or at one of the car parks. Considering the price, it's a pretty big flaw!
