Good stuff and very good value. They serve lunch specials daily that are a bargain. The hot and sour soup is actually hot, so be forewarned. You can see the red chiles in it. Lots of meats and tofu and egg and possibly vegs(?), good flavor. I ordered the daily special lemon chicken. It's sort of like a chicken fried chicken cutlet that is super crispy, then sliced and served with lemon sauce on the side. I believe the tangerine chicken would be similar and is available all the time. Since you could dip your chicken it didn't get soggy from the sauce. DH ordered Thai beef, and it was full of Thai basil, cilantro, Thai chiles, and lots of beef. It was served very hot and fresh is definitely something we would order again. Acceptable wine and beer list at good prices. Not huge but well chosen. Half a dozen sakes. Good service from helpful and friendly staff. Good sized portions. I've never reviewed employee uniforms before but the the Soaring Dragon t-shirts the staff wear are awesome. read more

Two weeks ago, my friend invited me on a trip to Fredericksburg. She recommended many stores and restaurants I might like. For dinner on the second night of our vacation, we knew we HAD to have Chinese. Soaring Dragon has a relaxing atmosphere and the servers were very polite, and diligent with keeping the dining area clean. Note: to future customers, they've made changes to some of their menu items and prices, due to the pandemic. We ordered the fried dumplings for our appetizer. They were crispy, warm and packed with (seasoned to perfection) pork. I ordered Kung Pao Beef for the first time, it was amazing! The beef was candied and tender in each bite with peanuts, was just delightful! The fried rice on the side was prefect, and not greasy at all. So glad we stopped by Soaring Dragon on our way back to San Antonio. Such great food! I highly recommend the sesame chicken. My one suggestion would be to do something different with the tables closest to the door. In Kerrville for the first time today (on business). Had read all the great reviews, so decided that we would try this place for lunch. Overall, we had a mixed experience. Had a hard time debating between 2 and 3 stars. Not sure why there are so many glowing reviews for "the best" Chinese food. Not even close. We started off with the steamed dumplings. Those were very good. Hubby ordered the tangerine chicken and I ordered the chicken lo mein. Both with soup, hot and sour for him, and the egg drop for me. He said his soup was good. Mine was not. Probably the worst egg drop soup I've ever had. The broth was super oily and had too much of a chicken-stock taste. It definitely wasn't a delicate broth, as normally found in egg drop soup. My entree was awful. Very bland and again, seemed oily. The egg roll that came with it was decent, but greasy. The tangerine chicken was actually quite good, but the fried rice was lacking flavor, as was the steamed broccoli, like it literally had no seasoning at all. Service was bad. All the staff were very "brisk" in their limited interactions...never checked if we needed refills, didn't clear dirty plates. Just not attentive or friendly at all. Personally I wouldn't return. We've been going here since they opened. It's always great. The lady who owns the place is super nice and welcoming. We stopped in to meet family on a busy Saturday night and we each got a different entree. I got the pineapple fried rice with pork, and my hubby got Mongolian beef, both were delicious, hot and fresh! We love how unique the menu is here, it isn't the same as everyone else's but mixed in with the new are old favorites too. They offer a few Vietnamese dishes as well. There's a nice selection of drinks - beer, wine and including several flavors of sake. The iced tea is always wonderful. The service was good even though they were short staffed and quite busy. Soaring Dragon has always been our go to Chinese restaurant in the Hill Country. What has always drawn us back was the reliable consistency in the food, sauces & the outstanding Hot & Sour soup. Today, the food taste different. The very consistent Hot & Sour soup, which everyone loves, was missing the distinct vinegary hot & sour taste the purple lotus leaves, veggies and meat ingredients. We ordered the spicy Szechuan dumpling appetizer. The dumplings and brown sauce were served at less then room temperature. The splatter of brown sauce dribbled on the dumplings had solidified as a gelatin which had not hint of spicy at all. Our main dishes were different as far as the protein yet contained the same brown sauce, yet the food was hot. Our main dishes were good and will bring us back for more. Yet, Prior to confirming, we knew the restaurant had new Ownership which was confirmed by staff. The food is ok and consistent with your average American Chinese restaurants. Hopefully, they can wrestle the Hot & Sour soup recipe from the past owners. Having said that, it's not the Soaring Dragon of the past that we absolutely had to visit whenever in Kerrville. read more

Dine in...early dinner, some folks eating but not busy. Service at table side excellent once menu selection made. No dialog regarding specials or unique specialties. Food was served hot, visually and smelled delicious. Ambiance was relaxed and the sound level was very pleasant. Advice: * When specials are advertised authentic door, at least mention * Drinks, especially alcohol such as beer, sake, have a very complimentary business side * Sauces advertised as spicy on the menu tend to mean not bland. My order was lacking salt, spice and umami. Shame, the ingredients were good quality but there was nothing taste wise that would bring me back or recommend to anyone * Easy condiments, (soy sauce, spicy mustard and sweet sauce) are inexpensive and allow the patron to customize their entree to their liking. read more

When Soaring Dragon first opened it was the best in town. Last few months ...... not so much. Some menu items are ok. After reading a few back reviews, I think I know why the food is horrible now. My last visit I had the fried dumplings and they were burnt and the dipping sauce was nothing but Soy Sauce. The House Pad Thai had no flavor whatsoever It had 2 pieces of chicken, one piece of [I think] beef but it was kinda pasty tasting and 3 tiny shrimps. We'll not be returning here anymore. read more

This restaurant is what it is and I don't mean that in a bad way. There is absolutely nothing pretentious about it. It's good solid take out American Chinese food. It is affordable and I always have plenty to take home for lunch the next day . Some of my standbys are the beef pad Thai, Singapore noodles, the beef rice noodles bowl, or a lunch special of sesame chicken with soup and egg roll. My husband likes the Marco Polo soup. The crab rangoon is my favorite! I love the sweet and sour chicken the flavor is nice and the chicken is crispy. Their fried rice is good too. I normally love this place. I've eaten here many times before and have been various satisfied. I have seen a steady decline of food quality due to the high rising cost of inflation and food and transportation and everything else is just costing more so naturally everyone is trying to cut corners as much as they can unfortunately, it's coming out in the food. I have another review that I will give you for Los Dos Amigos. To the soaring Dragon, my wife and I didn't feel like cooking so we ended up going out to eat yet we chose dragon of course because we knew that we've had good experiences there so we went. She got the jalapeño squid with fried rice and I got the Mongolian beef with fried rice. I am no food expert by any means, but I can tell when meat has been stewing for a long time by the texture of the dryness and lack of flavor because you burn all the spices out it in a little cooker or hot pot or whatever it is, they have it in the back. It seem like we only had like two or three waitresses working as well as maybe half of the restaurant was filled so there's quite a few open seats. So we ordered the crab raccoon appetizers and if you know anything about freshly fried foods when they're freshly fried, no matter what they are crisp if they sit after their fried for a while, they become soggy, which I can tell you that these raccoons came out mushy not soggy mushy no crisp to them so I could tell they've been sitting out, after they have been fed for some time. I don't get me wrong. I understand food service repetition speed is constant with food but when you do these things you end up losing quality and that's exactly what these crab raccoons were low quality. They didn't even taste like crab I've been sitting. My Mongolian beef came out surprisingly quick. I would say maybe 15 minutes after we ordered the entrée and the appetizer. So the timing of the food was perfect however, I had to say unfortunately my Mongolian beef had very bland flavor. The beef was very creamy and the vegetables were soggy. They had no crunch to them like they been sitting for a long time in a pot of its own self, I'm sorry to have to rate these guys with a low score like I said, I love sore and dragon. I think it's one of the better restaurants in Kerrville, but I've noticed the decline and all the restaurants in the Kerrville area. All of them are taking shortcuts and letting food sit for long periods of time and still serving it, I have not hung my hat up on soaring dragon. I think this was an isolated experience however, I hope I don't have a second one as I will be joining them again very shortly to see if the same menu items are exactly the same, which will tell me that most of the food in the back is sitting in some kind of pot or cooker waiting for everyone else to order it please do not let the next experience be like this. read more

Very good. My husband is not much for Chinese or oriental foods but he actually said the Thai chili beef was so good. I got the sweet and sour shrimp. The corn soup I had was very good. The only thing I would have preferred would have been that they cooked the bell peppers onions and carrots a little.
