We came back to Sobelman's again yesterday and WOW -- somehow it was even better than the first time! We were lucky enough to have Ada as our server again, and she is truly the BEST. Since we had such a great experience with her before, we were so excited to see her again, and she absolutely did not disappoint. We went all in and literally ordered every appetizer on the menu (zero regrets ), and every single thing was incredible. The food was amazing, the drinks were great, and Ada made the entire experience so fun and seamless. She is attentive, friendly, upbeat, and somehow always seems one step ahead of what you need without ever making you feel rushed. Arrived after waiting nearly a decade to return to what was one of my most memorable stops the last time I was in Milwaukee. Waitress didn't know details of a featured menu item - The Grand Slam bloody mary - and even though we told the staff we came here from San Diego for one of the big bloody mary meals they offer, the waitress DOWNsold us to get the tiny offering pictured here. This was a huge disappointment and I'm quite frustrated that we were so looking forward to a fun treat as our dinner and ended up with a small snack and will have to go get dinner elsewhere. There's not much to say here that you don't already know. It's basically a dive bar serving up great burgers and famous bloody marys. The bloody mary is epic. My default is the masterpiece, which is also my entire meal. The cheeseburger slider on top is SO good. Also, the meals here are crazy inexpensive. We fed our crew of six here for under $100, including the bloody Mary and a couple of beers. The fish fry is another great option for only $12, but you cannot go wrong with a burger here. On the last day in Milwaukee we were craving a good burger and Sobelman's came up as a place to check out, and it was a good choice. I got The Sobelman and that was a great burger. I can generally take or leave caramelized onions but with the jalapeño on the burger, they worked perfectly; the onions were well cooked to add a nice sweetness to counteract the spiciness of the jalapeño on the burger. My partner got the Double sans cheese, and agreed that it was a fantastic burger--actually too big a burger, so he'd downsize to the "regular" Sobelman burger next time. We got some of the Bacon Cheese Cracks, which were just ok. Maybe they would have been better having them in house rather than as part of a takeaway order, but they weren't as cheesy as I'd expected and there was a lot more of a breading-type thing involved. The pickle fries were yummy though! Next time I might try the macaroni bites or the jalapeño cheese balls instead of the bacon cheese things. The place was hopping when we picked up from here, though they had some outside seating available. They have a small parking lot but also some street side parking. It was also quite loud inside this place--if you don't like a really loud restaurant where you have to raise your voice to be heard, you may want to just pick up to go. I'd return to Sobelman's if there wasn't another place in Milwaukee I was eager to try--as long as it was warm enough for outdoor seating to keep the noise to a minimum. read more

Stopped at Sobelmans for a bloody! Bloody was good and perfectly spicy. Staff was very nice as well. Was hoping the drink came in a glass mug, however. Would recommend getting there early if going on a weekend. Parking in lot is limited and can be challenging to get out of so prepare to park on street. read more

Oh man, was this place ever fun! First of all, don't park on the hill if you've had a few drinks. I took a seat at the bar and the bartender was incredibly friendly and he did a good job at keeping my water glass full. I ordered the Loser with Colby-jack cheese, smoked bacon, and buttery caramelized onions. Except I made it a Triple Loser. So instead of a 1/3 pound patty, I took on a full pound of burger. The bartender couldn't believe I would dare to order something like that, but he agreed. Excellent burger, juicy, great roll that was lightly toasted. In addition, I asked for extra pickle chips to help change up the flavors in my mouth and he came through, which was really cool of him. And even though I tried to go easy on the fries during my trip, theirs were excellent, especially dipped in their jalapeno ketchup. Despite being a guy who never uses ketchup except for making a sauce, this is one ketchup I'd buy and keep in my kitchen. The New Glarus Spotted Cow beer tasted great, I hadn't had one in 8 or 9 years. It was well poured, the right amount of head. This is now my second time here. The first time I came, I came with two friends and The Chicken Beast ($65 Bloody Mary with a whole chicken on top) was wayyyy too big for us to eat. But, we tried! This time, I went with 5 adults, 2 kids and the $65 The Chicken Beast was accompanied by more food (sauage, fries, sweet potato fries, bacon cheese crack, etc). The only downside is that it's first come first serve when we went (on a weekend lunch) and since we had a larger party, there was a bit of a wait even though we beat "the rush". We ended up at the outside table at first but then it started raining and we had a baby in a stroller so we waited for a table inside to move to. Met some friends for Bloody Mary's on a Saturday morning around 10:30AM. We were quickly seated without a reservation, but make sure to get there early, the place was full by 11AM! The room we were seated in did get quite loud with a large party seated next to us so plan accordingly. Everyone enjoyed their bloodies and our server was friendly. Visited Sobelman's at 12pm in a Sunday. There was a full crowd and lots of revelry. If you had a late night the night before, the volume level is a little much! We we're promptly served and our server Diego was very helpful. We ordered a Bloody Mary, from their extensive Bloody Mary list and a breaded tenderloin with fries. The particular bloody that we had had bacon wrapped cheese curds and shrimp and my wife said was great My tenderloin was flat, which is fine, and probably a little overcooked, but it was still very tasty. My buddy and I had a quick work trip to Milwaukee and we were told if we wanted to experience crazy Bloody Marys and good burgers we needed to go to Sobelman's Pub & Grill. Well, IT DID NOT DISAPPOINT! First off EVERYONE there was cool AF. The owner Dave and our server Abbie were really awesome and friendly and made sure we made the most of our Monday Night Out at their restaurant. Let's start with why we went. This is THE PLACE in Milwaukee if you want a crazy Bloody Mary with toppings that end up being a meal all on their own. I got the Baconado which came with Jalapeño Cheese Balls and it was delicious. I also got the Beer Cheeseburger (thanks to my server Abbie) which was really great too! I'm lactose intolerant and I know I'll be paying for it tomorrow, but it was worth it! And I also got the pickle fries, which were basically pickles chopped up into French Fry slices and served fried in a batter. They were awesome. On top of that, I asked what beer I needed to enjoy while in Milwaukee and they said I needed to have the Spotted Cow by the New Glarus Brewing Company and man, that was a winner as well. What should have been a boring night was made magical by this little hole in the wall pub/restaurant with the service and food. There are two locations, including one in Waukesha, but I went to the original on St. Paul Avenue. On a Sunday afternoon during the NFL season the line was quite literally out the door. There was barely standing room inside as we waiting for a table or seat at the bar. We finally got two seats at the bar and I of course had to order one of their famous bloody marys. I went with the Grand Slam Bloody Mary (not on the menu but described to me by our waitress), which features all the their typical fixings plus highlights of all of their menu-item bloody marys: bacon-wrapped chicken slathered in bourbon sauce, bacon cheese cracks, bacon-wrapped cheese balls, and a cheeseburger slider. For $20.50 this is an entire meal in itself and might be the best deal in Milwaukee. I also ordered the beer cheese bacon burger which was amazing in its own right. We had way more than enough food and took boxes home. Our waitress, even with the place being slammed busy, was so friendly and accommodating. Sobelman's is totally unique and 100% worth any line you have to wait to get inside. I cannot imagine returning to visit Milwaukee without stopping by again and I can't wait to do so! read more
