Seriously a really great shop to go to I am sad I am moving away because it took so long to find someone I trusted with my car. They are always straight forward and won't try to get you to do repairs for the extra money. They will tell you what is necessary to upkeep your car and what isn't or what might just need to be fixed in the future. Just today they even brought my air filter out to me and said "it's a little dirty would you like it changed?" I know it doesn't seem like a big deal, but the fact that they don't hide anything from you is amazing. Didn't have a chance to drop by but customer service over the phone was outstanding with the supervisor! I called for an estimate and got a complete walk through of steps to take with my car that was having problems. I wanted to take it to his shop but had warranty at another and he suggested I take it there first with realistic estimates what it'd cost with him. My shop with the warranty is a good 50 miles away so tow is quite an expense but he gave me options when I was in a bind and needed some figuring out. I took my "classic" 1991 Isuzu Trooper SUV to Chris, on recommendation from a neighbor, after another mechanic had made a mess of installing some front end parts (ball joints, CV axle boot, etc.). Chris and his mechanics worked through a nightmare of old parts, bad parts, improperly designed and installed parts, and did as perfect a job as mechanically and humanly possible, getting the old girl ship shape (desert ready) again. Wow, THIS is the place! I had been wanting to find a new mechanic for a while, and found SoCal Auto here on Yelp. I had a few "mysterious" issues with my Toyota Tundra, and Chris figured them all out in a flash! They all turned out to be various wires that were chewed by rodents. Everything was fixed, including Chris going the extra mile to make them more rodent proof. My truck was ready in less than 24 hours. Chris is honest, very professional and fast! TL;DR: customer service that goes above and beyond (they may be able to pick up/drop off your car for service), well managed schedule, extremely clear and thorough verbal and written description of services and pricing, coffee/hot chocolate cart in the waiting area :) I originally came here for a routine oil change since the location was close to my new workplace. When I went to check out, Chris offered me the 1st time oil change discount without me bringing it up. Impressive! The next time, he changed my oil and recommended wiper blades, air filters and axle boots. I received a text saying I had a new email from the shop, and the email contained photos and details of recommended sevice. I appreciated the transparency. My retired mechanic uncle was able to give me a second opinion from Norcal and verified the need was legit. Chris was gracious enough to provide full details on how long I could safely wait, once I said I'd prefer to have my uncle take care of the axle boots due to cost. He even recommended another fix I could have my uncle look into. About a week later, he squeezed me in the last few hours before the shop closed on Friday before Christmas when my radiator hose burst while I was driving. He said the shop would be closed for the following week but that they could see what thet could do if I had any follow up emergencies. Later, when I got rear ended, Chris gave my car a quick check to make sure there was no damage that I didn't pick up on. He gave me time first thing when it happened and showed me that everything checked out when he had it on the lift. Coming to SoCal Auto is one of the best, if not the best, customer service experience I have across the business I regularly visit. They make what is typically unpleasant (dealing with the unexpected and spending money), as painless as possible. I was recommended by my mom to come here and I'm so glad I did! We're both very happy with our services and I personally love how they explain to me what and how they're doing things with my car. They told me I needed a new air filter and I'm pretty sure most people rip you off on that, but they pulled out the air filter and showed me. So that was great. My moms car had a loose screw in the door so it would creek when opened and they told my mom they would fix it for free. We both live in Oceanside so it's about a half an hour of a drive for us (I guess I kinda go through traffic a lot of the time) but it's worth it. I look forward to coming back! read more

Highly recommend. Super honest, solid work. Wife had car at the Honda dealer in Escondido and they said she needed some brake work. Needed front rotors machined and needed new rear brakes. Report said rear breaks were 3-5mm. Took it to SoCal auto and they agreed with the front rotors but the rear pads were at 8mm. Nothing needed at all. They even brought me out to the work area to see the gauge against the pads They did the front rotor work and I was on my way. Might just be our new go to mechanic. read more

I just needed an oil change, and the process was relatively painless compared to some of my past experiences elsewhere. Like everyone else at some point or another, I've been snaked and ripped off before when it comes to servicing my car. Subsequently, I'm always a little on edge when trying out a new place. Chris was very prompt and professional, responding to my public Facebook post and reaching out to me. When I got there, I felt welcomed as if I had been a regular there forever. He didn't push any services on me that I didn't need; even went out of his way to clean my engine and check for leaks. He pointed out a couple of minor ones to me, but also noted they weren't disastrous. Regardless, it's good to know for future reference. I couldn't believe the price either, only $25 since I was a new customer. We ended things cordially as he pointed out minor services I might need for next time, which I noted.
