I had a new ceiling fan installed by these folks. Everything worked out great. First off, Carol, answered all of my questions I had, and arranged my appointment. She was very kind and helpful, and the appointment was set for the next day. Mr Fix It came and removed the old fan, assembled the new one, installed it, and repaired the wiring on the light switch. The work was quality. No issues. It was done promptly. The hourly rate is very reasonable, and he was also very friendly, and I felt comfortable having him work in my home. Even though this was during a heatwave, and it was 90 degrees and I have no AC in my home, he was still pleasant and didn't seem to mind. I was fortunate enough to find them on Yelp, and gave them a call. Communication was a breeze and Carol scheduled Joe to come for a price quote and estimate. Joe went above and beyond from the very beginning, providing multiple options for some fixes for different budgets. The quote was extremely fair and the work quality was top notch. He even suggested a small additional fix that he provided free of charge, I don't know any other contractor that would bother to do that. A funny thing happened on the way to watch a movie the other night...my power suddenly went out. Two thirds of the house was pitch black and with 3 young kids that doesn't bode well. So the next day I hired a local electrician to come out and fix the problem. In order to look at the power line he had to climb up on our patio roof. And it is old so it had sags in it....sooooo....guess what happened?? His left leg went right through the tiles and almost through the stucco ceiling. Not real bright. Good news is he located the problem on the City side of the electric pole so he called them out and in an hour the electricity was back on. But... he still charged us for the inspection and offered nothing towards our broken roof. So now one problem is fixed but I have anorther one... a hole in my patio roof and ran was (of course) forecasted for the following night...so I called a friend and was referred to SoCal Mr Fix it. Joe called and scheduled a time for the next morning. In the meantime another company whom my wife had called showed up and wanted a couple grand to fix the problem. Of course the problem itself couldn't be fixed they wanted to replace the entire roof, Maybe one day but not right now. Too expensive. Sorry, you're outta here. When Joe showed up the next morning it was sprinkling but he was quick to provide a great temporary solution for under a hundred bucks and within the hour had it fixed. Let it rain baby!! And it did! Mr Fix It , Joseph is incredible. There isn't anything he cannot fix. He exudes confidence as he explains the way he will fix something because he know how - he's done it before . If he hasn't Joseph will figure it out. He has a right and left brain working simultaneously depicting creativity and intellect. He fixed a broken antique chandelier that seemed impossible -- it was a labor love and patience on his part and turned out functional and beautiful. He also does landscaping. My favorite is a heart formed by redwood chips surrounding our 2 large palm trees in front of the house. The flowers too harmonize the look and peace of our home. I must say my bougainvilleas and jasmine and roses are thriving beautifully against a trellis he built as they climb independently towards the sky. Not to mention the fertilization of the lawn -- looks like a luscious carpet! He also planted an herbal, fruit and vegetable garden with a built-in drip system connected to our smart phone for watering!!! Amazing - we can control the amount of water that goes to our garden our flowers in the back and front.. great for these drought days and eco- friendly environment. He painted our concrete floors by the pool in a rich terracotta satin look -- it's just divine and pleasant to the eyes --- living outdoors is just as good as inside especially w the gazebo he built for us..... inside the home Gosh -- it's a farmhouse classic! We were very impressed with him and his thoughts on our projects, but we never got an estimate back. His wife Carol even emailed us back to apologize for it being more that 2 weeks since we were promised an estimate, and I emailed back to let her know that we really would love to start soon but that we could be patient if he has another job. Joe and Carol, thank you for all of your help and for being awesome! My wife and I wanted to upgrade our kitchen recently, so we called SoCal Mr. Fix It based on the reviews that I read here. Carol was great on the phone and did her best to schedule an estimate at my earliest convenience. My schedule is pretty hectic, so there was a small window available for her husband to visit our home. When we finally scheduled an appoinment, Joe arrived early and was very friendly. In fact, our Chihuahua loved him, and our Chihuahua does not easily warm up to new people. Oddly, our Chihuahua would not leave Joe's side, and Joe gave our dog plenty of attention in between measuring our kitchen walls and writing things on his notepad. When Joe left, our dog sat by the door and whined for a few minutes and then would not leave the door for several minutes after. This was definitely a good sign that Joe was someone that we could trust. Lol. The kitchen project took four days. He had to fix some drywall, apply new paint, install new cabinet hardware, and backsplash. While having people working in your kitchen for four days is not always fun, Joe was very considerate of our home. He covered our floors every morning and cleaned all work areas at the end of every day. He is also really fun to have conversations with. He is just a great and friendly guy. The kitchen looks great, and we are already creating another list of projects for Joe to complete in the near future. I cannot speak much about pricing because I did not bother to compare prices with other businesses. I did not care to get other estimates. My experiences on the phone with Carol and in-person with Joe was enough to hire him for the job. JOE IS THE MAN! After reaching out to 5 different contractors via Craigslist and Yelp, Joe was the one and only honest, personable, and reliable individual I dealt with. Within one day he was onsite, the next day I had a detailed proposal from Carol. And within 2 weeks of the initial phone call the work was complete. There was some delay on the insurance underwriter otherwise would have been done quicker. When I looked at the final product it actually looked better than before. The attention to detail was incredible, everything from the hardwood, to dry wall, to base boards were perfect. Since that initial job, I have used Joe on everything from Flooring to paint to odd jobs like changing locks. Have also recommended him to multiple friends with rentals and home repairs. I used Joe several months ago for some sprinkler work in our yard. He did a great job....completely changed our sprinkler locations and made our system more efficient. Then in January we had a slab leak. Yikes! I called Joe knowing he was a licensed general contractor and he came to the rescue. After the water restoration company finished ripping out drywall and a vanity due to mold, and after the pipe restoration company finished the pipes, Joe started to repair the mess. The limestone shower and floor in one bathroom had to be removed due to water damage. I highly recommend Joe. He has an excellent knowledge of construction. He is reliable....if he says he is going to do something, he does it. He's a perfectionist. That made me really happy because I knew everything would be done perfectly. He is on time every day. He communicates what is happening and what the plan is. He is neat and tidy. Everything was covered with protective plastic and/or cardboard. He never left without cleaning up any mess from the day's work. He has excellent sub-contractors. The company he uses for marble and stone work is excellent as is the drywall contractor. Over the years I've worked with contractors and some were good but most were less than satisfactory to terrible. I can honestly say I would not hesitate to call Joe for any construction needs or handyman services. He is just so much more than a handyman. I never actually used them because they never called me back. I met Joe while he was doing work at my sister's house. I told him I needed work done at my place too, and he gave me his card. He didn't mention at that time I was out of his service area. But when I called, I got the distinct feeling that my project was too small for them to travel from HB to Irvine. The woman I spoke to said she'd check to see if someone could come out and asked if I was available for a phone call that afternoon. I said I was. Well, the afternoon came and went--and so did 4 additional days--and still no call. It would have been nice to have received a call back informing me my project was not worth their time. 2 stars because my sister liked their work, otherwise it would have been 1 for the lack of service after determining you are not their target customer. read more

My wife and I decided to proceed on two of those projects: replace two exterior lights with motion sensor lights and replace the mortar on an exterior firepit.
