Well, I was worried after reading the reviews. I had to go in to drop off documents to show I was a US citizen in order to start receiving my ss benefits. I guess having a ss # and paying into ss for 47 years wasn't enough proof. ( I submitted my application online and waited 6 weeks and never got a call so I figured I better call to find out what was going on w my application. That is how I found out I needed proof I was a US citizen as I was born in another country). I get it, rules are rules and I happily obliged. I went into the Greenville SC branch around 3pm on a Thursday 11/13/25. I was called within 30 mins and met with a gentleman (booth 3) who greeted me nicely and was very personable. I wish I had gotten his name. He was efficient, asked me if I needed a ss card, which I actually did, and he ordered one for me. I was done within 10 minutes, my documents submitted without a glitch. I thanked him for his excellent bedside manner. Now the police officer who was working wasn't the most friendly. I wasn't sure where I needed to check in upon arriving and when I asked him, he just pointed to the kiosk without any greeting. He also seemed a little perturbed with a family when they received an audible phone ring/call and proceeded to make a statement out loud to turn off ringers/silence phones etc. bec there may be children w sensory issues /autism present. I thought that was interesting as there is a loud buzzer over the pa when your number is called. I would think that would set a child off more so than a phone ringing? I think most parents that have children w issues usually are prepared (headphones) in places like this. Oh well, he was doing his job, albeit he didn't seem to be enjoying it. read more

I'm sorry, I haven't been to my appointment on the 15th, which I scheduled due to my husband's passing, and desperately wanted a walk in appointment and I was told that there was not one at all in Greenville SC. I'm scheduled for your branch for an over the phone appointment. I just looked it up and I was lied to. I greatly would appreciate a quick turnaround on my 255 (approximately) for I have no money until I get the death certificate. Thank you for your understanding. read more

Better hope you can schedule an appointment ahead if time. I've been here for 3 hours and they keep dancing around my ticket number. They say if you dont make an appointment then you must take a number. Appointments take priority. So you can expect to wait three or more hours while watching people who also took a number after you come and go. Someone got here at open 8:30am wasn't seen until they pointed out that they had concerns they may have been skipped. Mind you this was at 11:15am. They genuinely don't care about your time. read more

Worst possible experience. Cannot get through on the phone. Waited over an hour multiple times and left my number for a call back. Never got a call. Was disconnected after being on hold a few times as well. Finally went to the local office and waited over two hours just to make a phone appointment. Truly a disgrace how incompetent our government is. Thank god this is all being addressed. read more

Make sure you don't accidentally park in the employee parking lot. They're incredibly rude about it and expect you to read a backward sign from the main parking lot which was full.... read more

Front desk staff member not friendly, offers no explanation for the process of being herded to a woman at a window who decides that you, along with everyone else has to get a number and wait in line. Then waited 50 minutes to make an appointment for a phone appointment for 3 weeks later. why can't everyone just get a number when they walk in?? Typical ridiculous government management....makes no sense. read more

Again if there could be a negative number this place would be deserving. They can't even open the doors on time... if I'm late for work I get written up or can be terminated but these people seem to think the day is theirs and no ones time matters. Social security made a mistake with my cola amount for 2024, so I called the local Greenville office on Pelham Rd, in hopes they could help me fix this. As i was tyring to explain to the agent what the issue was, she got irrate, accused me of being rude/ which I was not. then hung up on me. I called back a different agent answered the phone and did the same thing. Never in 67 yrs of my life did I experience anything like this. These 2 women should be fired/ hands down. I then called the main national ss number had to wait one hour for an agent, who was an absolute delight. He was professional and helpful with my issue. read more

Great service. Josh was very helpful, so was the security officer. I like that workers come out before the doors open and take questions from waiting people to help us know if we are in the line for the wrong reason. This was done on multiple occasions. I recently got married & decided to take my hubby's last name. So I went online to find out the process for a name change for my social security number. You do have to go in person and bring your marriage certificate. I was really dreading going to the one in Charlotte where I live because I knew it would be super slow. So, I was down in Greenville at a client site for a couple of days and I found that the Social Security office was pretty close by. I decided to run over there on a lunch break and so I Google Drive to find out their hours. As it turned out, the day I was there is the one day a week they close early (9-12 on Wednesdays). I was worried that I would not make it in time, but I took an early lunch & got there by 11:30. I took a number & sat down to wait. It was the perfect time to go. I think I waited around 15 mins, and got called back. The lady that helped me was very nice and efficient. I was out of there in no time at all and the new Social Security card arrived in the mail very quickly. I am so glad that I was able to go to this office instead of the super busy one in Charlotte! (Since the Social Security Administration is Federal, not state, you can go to any office in any state.) read more

Went in to do a change in my social and it took me about 10 minutes. A guy even opened the door for us to go in and out, the woman I talked to on the phone before going there was really helpful and the woman that helped us with the paperwork was also great. read more

When someone you love dies , so very much that you never think of needs to be done. My dad was very meticulous and definitely tried to have everything in order for mom , but because he worked for the Railroad it changes how her benefits will be paid . We made an appointment and were seen within 15 minuets of the appointment. My mother was treated so good and even though there was confusion they assured her she'd have answers within 24 hours , and they delivered!! Not only that , they called her twice to let her know she wasn't forgotten and where they were in the process ! Props to everyone who worked so hard ! read more

Greenville Social Security Administration local office. I called seeking resolution to a complaint of my SS checks being shortchanged. The first person told me I had a bad connection. (There was nothing wrong with any other calls I made all day) and she hung up on me. I promptly called back getting woman #2, who did not identify herself when answering on behalf of SS. I had to ask her her name. I requested to speak to a specific person who had worked on my case earlier (woman #3) and she refused to transfer me to such person. she told me since I had already spoken with woman #1, she would transfer me to woman #1's line. I got woman #1's answering machine. I left a message to call me back which never happened. During my callback with woman #2, I could hear them whispering in the background to pass me around. And yes, I took names. No resolution about my checks being shortchanged. Nor do they care. I would give them no stars, if that were possible. Horribly rude people. Got married and had to mail in documents including my marriage license to have my name changed. Receive my new card as well as a receipt but no marriage license. I called once and the person told me he'd contact his supervisors and call me back. He never did. I called back and a really nice lady sent an email to her supervisors Mr. Thomas and Mr. Evans. She was very helpful but said that if no one contacted me within two days to call back. I did so and the third person messaged her supervisors who basically said I was lying about never receiving my marriage license. Repeatedly said that they sent it back the day they received it. It's been three weeks and I have not received it. SS office basically called me a liar, said I was out of luck and said I needed to just order a new one. When I asked if I was supposed to pay for that when it was their mistake they said they didn't make a mistake. Terrible office. Use another office! read more
