It was my first time at the Florida Ave in fact I haven't been in years however it seems like it was dominated for one type of person which means if I didn't speak Spanish the service was going to be a level 1 out of 10. Call and make an appointment first, if you can! The direct number to the Tampa office at this location is 1 (866) 331-2317. If not then at least Try to get here as early as you can. They open at 9am but we got in at 840am. They started seeing people early too. Masks are still mandatory! They have a female and a male bathroom available for your use. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Due to COVID, it took me a long time to get my SSA issues taken care of as we needed in person appointments. Who likes waiting? Pretty much no one. This Social Security location is somewhat efficient thankfully but be prepared to wait, even shortly after they open at 9am. I would be curious to know how many people are in line when they open, as the waiting room area was nearly half full. On my visit I arrived at 9:08am and still had to wait about 25 minutes to be helped. When you think you are being smart by getting there early, just know everyone else had the same idea. I imagine this location is busy all day. Parking seems pretty limited but it is located adjacent to the building but can be kind of a walk from the building (be mindful when traveling with elders and people who may have issue). I am fairly certain that there are city buses which stop here as well to make it accessible for all. When you enter there are two kiosks that you may use to in essence "sign in" and get assigned a number based on the intent of your visit and your Social Security needs. You can also make an appointment online as it is my understanding. On my particular visit I was assigned the next number behind a "no show" person who did not present themselves. While waiting I stood up (probably not very common here) near the #1 window I figured I would be called at but still in waiting area and in doing so was in essence verbally harassed by the security officer. There was nothing I was doing with my hands that was suspicious so that took me by surprise. It took them a few minutes after they did a "last call" for the number prior to mine and when my number was called the individual helping me was on the phone (not like she was answering the phone for the office-she was on a personal phone call)! In addition she was dressed very casually in leisure attire. Not very professional if you asked me. On top of that she was pretty condescending. Be forewarned even though this information is not very accessible on the Social Security Website that Birth Certificates cannot be used for either yours or your CHILD'S identification for a replacement card. What does work might you ask? A U.S. Passport, health insurance card, record of immunizations from the doctor a baptismal record, naming certificate (?) or bris certificate. What may you ask is the rationale for not accepting a young child's birth certificate as an acceptable form of ID? It comes from the government... I have NO idea. But I digress. If you do not have this information you are not getting your child's birth certificate :) Have fun! read more

I went to this SS administration building and expected a long wait and the typical nonchalant NEXT. It's nice to be wrong about these things. I had to wait maybe 10 minutes and the rep was fantastic. She looked into my claim and made some calls. Before leaving she had an answer for me. Very highly recommend. read more

It's as if you're being punished! No online appointments like the DMV so a line forms outside an hour before they open. Then an egotistical security guard comes out and talks down to you about basic courtesies while you wait. Really? Just open the door ! Once checked in, numbers are posted and called; but often after being called you can be screened for your reason for your visit and yup you're back in the wait. They should have more choices listed to avoid this double whammy of a wait. However, kudos to the staff, who are always extremely patient, helpful and professional. read more

WTF is wrong with the people that work at these offices .been trying to get my parents SSI checks delivered back to there home address and the b**ch that was on phone hanged up on my parents while I had them on three way call ...who ever the manager of these b**ches is please put them in check or fire them and replace them with people that wanna work and help the Elderly people recover there SSI checks and get there payments on track ....They have not received there SSI checks in three months fighting with them that there address is still the same what F they can't understand that ...... read more

This office is a joke - I filled out the application online for a basic name change and in the last step, it says that you have to visit the local office to show your documents, okay cool. But you can't make an appointment for this particular service, it's walk-in only. When I got there, they indicated that the average wait time was about 1.5 hours. After waiting 3.5 hours, the associate I spoke to essentially said he could not help me because my electronically certified copy of my marriage certificate was not "proof" of my marriage (interesting, because they still charge you for an electronic copy that essentially is useless). After complaining that I had spent half the day there and couldn't do that again, he offered to schedule me an appointment.. for LABOR DAY when they're 100% closed. I didn't realize it until I left so I called the 800 number for the location and after waiting 35 minutes on hold there, was told that the national line could not help with scheduling appointments and that had to be done at the local office and gave me that number (866)331-2317. Don't bother calling that number though because all it does it redirect you to the national line where after waiting another 30 minutes, I was told that this is my own fault and that my only option is to do another walk in. The only saving grace here is the guard who escorts people in - he was a gem, but everyone else I've spoken to today is either incompetent, rude, or simply not helpful. read more

Came to this office two days back to back. First day, security was relaxed and informative. I was in and out within 30 mins. The second day, security was very intrusive. Made everyone end any phone conversations they were having even though there's nothing in writing saying it's not allowed. I am a disabled Special Forces paratroop commander of the 60s who is need of a life saving drug for one of the greedy big pharma parasites. Since my income is only SS payments - I was told I may be eligible for relief from the SEVEN THOUSAND DOLLAR A YEAR charges for ONE drug which cost the greedy parasites pennies to make. On the application I was required to submit a prior years 1099 form which I no longer had. When I asked for a copy from the SAME GOVET for which I served at risk of my life to defend our land long ago - I was treated like mangy dog and REFUSED. So now I will have to use my life savings to pay these gangster extortion prices. Our congressional representatives could care less and the once watchdogs for the people -our sews media have sold out to the 'chosen'. The usual slow lazy government employees work at this SS office and are no different than the slow lazy DMV government employees. I went there Friday to get a replacement SS card and it took forever. I even printed out and filled out the form prior to coming in to save time. The young woman took my form and instead of giving me a replacement SS card, told me one would be mailed to me in about 8 days or so. Their inefficient SS website does not even have a form you can fill in on-line....so it is typed ....instead you have to print it out and hand write in the information thus increasing the chance of handwriting misinterpretations. Funny how PRIVATE companies on-line offering to do your SS work for you (which I don't trust) have the SAME FORM but theirs allow you to type the information on the form and print it out or click a button and send the typed filled in form directly to them. When I asked the woman at the SS office why their website didn't have that capability, she did the public union I don't give a crap shoulder shrug. Worse...there was fat equally lazy security guard or cop sitting on a his behind doing NOTHING the whole day. He is not needed. If the SS people have a problem with someone, call 911 like everyone else. What a waste of taxpayer money this guy was. read more

Medicare holds insurance companies who sell Medicare plans to standards that they themselves do not follow. After applying for retirement benefit one must go to one SS office to validate birth certificate and Naturalization document if that is the case. I first tried to do it at SS office at Gunn Hwy, Tampa. Very rude security personnel. Besides, after waiting more than 1/2 hour on a crowded room, only one person was called on my "A" type of subject. I left. Next day tried the SS office over Frontage Rd, What a difference! much less crowded and quicker service. I spent around 90 minutes total. Highest point was the Young Man that attended me. Polite, helpful and efficient. I gave only 4 stars on my evaluation due to the ridiculous SS requirement to go in person to prove my age (this after working whole life, obtaining several passports, paying taxes, etc.They (Goverment) have my information.
