    The Paper House

I have only ever written one negative review before, but I couldn't let this go. The Paper House…read morewas recommended to me by someone who used their services, so I didn't pick them blindly. My daughter, who is a special needs young adult, wanted to publish a children's book, which she both wrote and illustrated. Everything was pretty much done. We even wanted it in her own handwriting, so editing was pretty much what we needed. It's a Christmas book, so the release date was pretty important. Originally we picked November 1st 2025 to release it, but I had ordered some advance copies from The Paper House's recommended printer in early May 2025 and never received them until the end of June 2025. Okay, so we adjusted the release date to October 1, 2025, so parents would have time to order it for Christmas. It's important to note, not only were their problems with the response time from The Paper House, but with the printer, Ingram Spark as well. There's not even a phone number to contact Ingram Spark to handle things. Everything is chat so when the, "date available", from both Amazon and Barnes & Noble was off, what should have been an easy fix from either The Paper House or Ingram Spark was not. The biggest problem, however, was when I asked when they, The Paper House, were going to start promoting the book and I was told that I didn't pay for that service. I had a brief moment of panic, but I checked my contract and sent it to them, to which I was told, no that's wrong. That's a mistake. It wasn't until I reminded him that I live in the same state and we were referred by one of his authors that he, Mike, said, "Oh that's right". He was going to ignore our contract until I mentioned this but honestly, he ignored the contract anyway. I asked in several different ways, "What media outlets did you send this to", without any clear answer which is very telling. He became unresponsive to my emails after December 2nd 2025. Ask me how the book sales went! My daughter made $57 and still hasn't received it, as the printer, Ingram Spark, has ignored my request in chat for her to be paid. I wasn't anticipating my daughter getting rich from this book, but was trying to create another way for her to make money for when she begins working. I thought that this was an excellent idea for someone who's not very social and might benefit from working from home. My thoughts are soured by this experience that we've had and it ended up being an expensive, "toe dip" for a budding author/illustrator.

I gave the benefit of the doubt because I had used the services before without issue, but this experience was completely different. Communication and service were so inconsistent that I actually wondered if their contact information had been compromised. That's how unusual and concerning it felt. I at times felt like I was dealing with someone who had no idea what was going on. Editing came back poorly the first time. That was after numerous attempts for response. My final requests were never addressed and I have issues unresolved. In my entire life, I can honestly say I have never filed a complaint about anything or anyone, until now. That should tell you how deeply disappointing this experience has been.
