My bestie and I have seen this place online and since we were in the neighborhood we decided to stop by for brunch during a blizzard. The place itself has super cute decor and we got seated almost immediately. They have QR codes that you can use to make your orders - a good variety of brunch items of both savory and sweet options. They also have a good variety of drink options as well. I got the strawberry matcha as my drink which was alright - nothing too special about the matcha. For brunch I got the Breakfast platter which was really good - the eggs were super fluffy and the fries were really crispy. It was really filling as well. For dessert we decided to get the Boba Lava Souffle Pancakes - this was a nice sweet treat for the end of the meal. We got it with milk tea soft serve which went well with the dish - the pancakes were really soft. You do need wait 20 minutes for these as an FYI if you are only planning on ordering this but for us it came out at a perfect time for when we finished our main dishes. It was a mediocre hit and big miss meal unfortunately! I had the tornado rice with shrimp tempura which was decent! The veggies and the demi-glaze sauce were nice! However the spicy chicken bento was disgusting, and whoever let that leave the kitchen should be fired. The chicken was so overcooked and stringy, I had to floss after just two bites of that part of the meal. It's not a restaurant that seems to have any real culinary team or executive chef behind it (maybe it did at one point) and seems to rely heavily on vapid instagram engagement. It's a fairly big place with a lot of seating. The place itself is cute, decorated aesthetically well. There's a really extensive menu with a huge variety of Asian inspired items and matcha and sweet drinks etc. The staff are quite nice. However, I wasn't thrilled by the experience. There was something about the quality and cleanliness that was a bit underwhelming. We split two items (one sweet and one savory for a nice balance). The Shrimp Crispy Rice Salad bowl ($16) was alright. The greens were a bit flat and seemed like it was from a bag and generally all of the ingredients didn't seem fresh. We had the soufflé pancakes which takes 20 minutes to come out. The pancakes are fluffy and eggy but needs a lot of the sauce to make it tasty. It comes with ice cream (vanilla, ube, or mixed). I didn't like the ice cream. Not very creamy and it was weak tasting. I liked the creme brulee one the best but it could use more of the sauce. I'm not sure about the bad reviews that Softbite has because personally I absolutely loved it & I had a takeout order- I can only imagine how great the dine-in soufflé pancakes would be as they would be fresh. With the right dining companions, you can try multiple desserts like the creme brulee souffle pancakes or the Ube ones. We totally went overboard and did all that, doggie bagged what we couldn't finish. The souffle pancakes were light and fluffy. The toppings is what makes each one unique. Think texture like popcorn, Pocky sticks, sprinkles, ie. Helps to elevate the taste as well as appearance. That's why that creme brulee or Ube pancakes were well received by my companions - the fun toppings! Equally sweet and fun to eat. This corner restaurant caught my eye with the exterior decorations. Their outdoor setup looked super cute. We still opted to sit inside to avoid any potential bad weather elements. This place was adorable and was such a cute brunch we came across in LIC. It was definitely warm and welcoming. Loved our host and he did a fantastic job being mindful of us with each item for our meal. For food we did the signature Softbite soufflé pancakes with the matcha creme and extra Ube ice cream on the side. Pillowy, spongy and soft pancakes. We were smiling at how well the matcha cream soaked well on the pancake pastry. The Ube ice cream was thick in the sweetness and creamy texture. Seeing how my dining partner is a bigger sweet tooth than me, once I saw how happy he was - it convinced me enough. For savory, we got the tonkatsu sando. Square sized breaded cutlets in traditional Japanese square bread. Whatever sauce was used for this sandwich, we both loved it. Delicate, soft, sweet and salty balanced mix, and still freshly hot. The presentation was so cute that we almost felt guilty for breaking the visuals when we grabbed the sandwiches. Parking may be free since it's Sunday - but don't expect to find any spots. Upon entering there's a cute shop of many different things. There are tables of all sizes. People, it is still a pretty trendy food item and for good reasons! Not only are they gorgeous to look at, they are so tasty. I have had them at several places throughout NYC and Softbite is by far my favorite. My last visit solidified this and here's why: Late last year, Softbite introduced the Souffle Cup. This dessert has crème brûlée custard, a Japanese Shu cream and a souffle pancake all neatly layered on top of each other. The pancake is dusted lightly with powdered sugar. I can't get over how light, airy, not too sweet and delicious this dessert was. I paired it with my other go to item here, the sparking Yuzu and I had the best time enjoying my two treats while working here. Yes, I said working. They have free WiFi and also they are a flower vendor. On the way out they had gorgeous flowers on display available for purchase. This place just makes my heart so happy. My boyfriend and I ordered the katsu sandwich and creme brulee souffle pancakes. Both were okay, and here's the "but...". The portions are extremely small, like tapas/appetizers portions!! For $16 each, I was hoping for larger portions but I can't say we left feeling full.
