This place is amazing! I HIGHLY recommend anyone who's even a little bit interested in learning about dance to take the plunge and come to a class. I did that in November '23 and have been going every week ever since (sometimes 4 time/week). I've kinda let it take over my life because of how much fun it is, how great the people are (students and teachers) and what a nice little dance family it has become for me. Some students take classes to be able to compete in dance competitions, others just do it for the pure joy of dancing. Personally, I do it for the pure joy but the nice thing is the studio is welcoming to all people regardless of why you're taking the class. And it has been pure joy. Please do yourself a favor and come to a class. You won't regret it. Also, all the teachers are fantastic but a special shout-out to Jackie and Raul, who both teach salsa classes, among others, and who have helped foster that home-away-from-home feeling at the studio. Lucia is our private coach for our intro sessions and she is PHENOMENAL!!! She is so patient with us and encouraging all at the same time. She is always all smiles and an AMAZING teacher. She builds on to the basics and adds on skill sets based on your ability. This was our second session with her. Last time we worked on the waltz and the fox trot. This time we worked on reviewing along with some cha cha & jive. You will be lucky to get her as your coach for the private lessons! SohoDanceLA is a terrific place to learn how to dance. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The instructors are great, there's a strong sense of community and family there[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]], and for those who go often, the unlimited membership makes the cost per lesson remarkably inexpensive. I take between 6 and 15 lessons a week, and not only is that unusually cost effective, it's about the only way to learn. You can't learn by taking one class a week. All the instructors are great, but I've benefited most from both group classes and private lessons in salsa with Jackie Rios, an excellent instructor. I signed up for a Salsa 1 class yesterday through the Mindbody app. I have no background in dance, and could be described as having two left feet. This is why I signed up for a beginners class. However, during this Salsa 1 class, the instructor Jackie had a lot of previous students and seemed to want to move onto Salsa 3, even saying that if we wanted to sign up for Salsa 1, she did that on Thursdays, but then also mentioned that her Thursday class was cancelled so I have no idea what she was trying to say. The instructor Jackie was incredibly frustrated with me, and kept calling me out for not finishing on the right foot. Yes, I get it, I can tell I'm ending on the wrong foot, I'm messing up somewhere in the steps in between. You slapping your knee and saying I should know this over and over doesn't help me. When I messed up, I would ask my partner to help go over the step with me to get it right. She then made a comment to the whole class about how "girls should know their steps and not be asking their partners what to do like ohhh I'm so helpless I don't know what I'm doing please help me." If I wanted to learn on my own, I would have just stayed at home and watched YouTube. If I wanted to be yelled at, I could ask my parents to do that for free. All the other students were actually very nice and encouraging but I left due to the instructors unwelcoming attitude. read more

My wife and I started taking Salsa classes at the Sherman Oaks location which is right by our house about a year ago. Jackie Rios is such an amazing teacher we followed her to the Westwood location. Last night we took a Salsa 1 class which for us isn't really challenging any more. There were very experienced dancers and a couple that had never taken a class before. Watching Jackie bring her passion for dance and making it super super fun for everyone last night was awesome. We have taken other classes and all of the teachers at SoHo are very skilled and nice. But Jackie always makes it FUN. It MUST be fun after a long day of work and kids and already working out to come and dance. Soho dance was the place I first really started to learn to dance. It has been my home and a place of community and learning. The thing I love most about there is that they have is tic toes that will teach you the skills and the foundations do dance while still making it fun. I need a balance of technique and fun and they deliver! I have had the esteemed pleasure of working with and competing with many of the instructors, I've learned a multitude of dances, had incredible support and the most fun I've had pretty much anywhere. Dance itself can be almost addictive once you jump in and boy what better place to get those endorphins in while learning than at a place like this? I went from knowing virtually nothing and feeling very overwhelmed (in a good way) about any partner style dance, (I also didn't have a background in other forms of dance) and threw myself in entirely to then be at my first salsa competition a year later. I'm so glad I made that investment. I've warned lifelong friends and memories. They have knowledgeable teachers, kind staff, a wonderful space and always something fun going on. I have worked with the owner, Raul, the amazing Artem, the show stopping Yesenia, the bubbly Deana, the sassy Jackie and many others during my time there. This is a fun and well organized place. Raul is the owner and he picks excellent teachers. Classes are organized from beginners to more advanced levels. Jackie Rios is a gem. She is one of my favorite instructors because she provides great instructions, makes learning fun. Jackie is supportive of all of her student. I recently attended a West Coast Swing Level 3 class at Soho Dance LA, expecting a welcoming environment where I could learn a new dance style. With a background in salsa dancing, I was eager to start, but I was met with a lack of basic instruction and a very unwelcoming attitude from the instructor. As a beginner to West Coast Swing, I hoped for some guidance or at least an opportunity to try, but the instructor asked me to leave the class in a manner that was both rude and unprofessional. This experience left me feeling upset and discouraged, and I feel it's important for potential new students to be aware that this studio may not cater to beginners or those new to certain dance styles. I believe every dance studio should offer a supportive environment for all learners, and sadly, this was not the case at Soho Dance LA during my visit. I have never met such rude and unwelcoming teacher in any dance studios and I've danced for 7 years and am considering myself a great dancer that just needed to refresh some knowledge of steps. This was so inappropriately rude! Will never come there and will not recommend this studio to anyone! read more

I followed Jaclyn Kuka here from LA Dance Experience (now closed). There are private dance rooms off to the side and one large studio. It's very spacious and parking was easy as well as free. There's a small garage slightly underground and street parking. I'm happy to not have to deal w/ the parking attendants at her previous location. Getting back to Jaclyn, we received dance instructions from her over 8 years ago to prepare for our wedding dance. Many years later, we wanted to learn how to foxtrot, swing, tango, etc. So we reestablished contact and have been going to her for almost a year now learning basic steps for different styles of dance. As always, Jaclyn is the most patient and nicest dance instructor I have ever had. No matter how many times we make the same mistake over and over again, she never gets annoyed with us! I've yet to check out their classes, but plan on doing so in the near future. And in case you have problems finding this building, it's the one with the signage that says hat store or something right next to the 405 entrance. read more

WTF! Soho Dance DOES NOT care about COVID protocols and mandates. If you want to catch Covid - this is your place! I literally cannot believe what I saw tonight. I am just so friggin mad. And we wonder why we can't get this virus under control. I am fuming. I arrived for a 7:00 class with an outside instructor. The two older ladies at the front desk have no mask. You look in to the studios - the instructors and students mostly have no masks. So - I ask the older lady at the front desk - why no masks. Why is nobody checking vaccination? WTF!! She says - it's not a law and we can do what we want. I said - in LA county you must check vaccination and masks must be worn inside. She said no, it's optional, we choose not to enforce vaccination status or masks. Again - WTF!!!!!! So I could go on - but you probably get the idea by now. They DO NOT CARE ABOUT COVID AT SOHO DANCE. Thus - if you are worried about Covid, I would suggest you go elsewhere (maybe LA Dancefit around the corner?). SOHO - U suck. Never again. I cannot in good faith recommend this studio to anyone, especially any woman. I and other women were sexually harassed at this studio. Personally, I was sexually harassed and assaulted by a male teacher and also by the owner of this studio. The male teacher came up behind me during a private lesson and pressed his crotch against my behind. He would also constantly make comments about my body. I stopped working with him as my instructor and hired the owner of the studio instead for private lessons. However, he did the same thing to me. He would also grab me during private lessons. Even when I asked both men to stop their behavior they continued and did not respect me. The male teacher hit on me and made comments about my body even after I told him I was not interested. One night, he grabbed me and tried to pull my shirt down even after I said no multiple times. The owner of this studio had a conversation with me about it but I never felt that he truly believed me when I said that it wasn't consensual. That teacher continued to work at this studio for many months after until he was eventually removed. Despite the assault, the owner continued to treat me with disrespect. He joked that I was a whore on multiple occasions and made other inappropriate comments. He grabbed me even when I asked him not to. There's so much more that I could say, but to say the least, it was a degrading and humiliating experience to be part of this studio. It was very traumatic and difficult for me to process everything that happened after I left. I've struggled to come forward about this, but I feel I have to speak up. I would hate for another woman to experience what I did. read more

Fantastic place to dance! I've been taking both group classes and private lessons from this studio for over a year now in salsa, ballroom, and hustle. The instruction is top-notch; I tried two other local studios before finding Soho. The facility is great, the front staff is friendly and well-trained, the group classes are fun and dynamic, and private lessons are top notch in terms of instruction. I have worked with the studio owner Raul, as well as Yesenia, Daisy, and Ashley for private lessons. Everyone has been incredibly positive, patient and respectful. They are consummate professionals who care deeply about their students. I've learned how to dance far quicker than I ever thought I would (I no longer look like a baby giraffe on the dance floor). Above all, what I think Soho offers is a sense of community and camaraderie that is rare to find in LA. I always leave the studio is a better place than when I arrived. I really like this studio. It is super clean, there are multiple rooms with windows and each room is already pre-hooked up to the sound system, this is genius! They have a kitchen, clean bathroom and also a nice reception desk. The dance floor are amazing, no complaint here and the larger room can be divided with a curtain, again, very smart! Lots of mirrors everywhere, different kind of classes thought at different hours and also love the Soho Dance LA back wall lighting, very cool specially for pictures! This is a great studio and would recommend it big time to everyone who wants to go out social dance or learn. The teachers are great! read more

Came here with a friend for a salsa dance class led by Yesenia and Raul. Awesome class with cool people. I have no prior experience so I kept watching my feet. But my instructors kept telling us (me) to not look at our (my) feet, so I tried to staring into my partner's eyes...and did so with a furrowed brows and a piercing gaze because I was concentrating deeply on what my feet were doing. A happy medium was achieved: I kept laser-like focus on the chest area of my partners. I did this because I was able to concentrate on my feet at the bottom of my peripheral vision, while also monitoring and occasionally making eye contact with my partner. However, it took much time before I realized that the center of my focus was on every partner's chest area and when I did realize this, I was terribly embarrassed. My friend laughed quite a bit when she noticed this. You switch partners frequently (every 3-5 minutes). While you may not get to dance much with the person you come with, I still recommend bringing your own partner. Most everyone under 35 comes with a partner, typically their significant other, so it's not a great place if you're looking to meet someone. Plenty of cute, elderly couples who move amazingly well and who are fun to watch. I almost feel ready for dirty dancing in Havana! read more

My husband and I live in SF and flew down to LA for two weekends to take our wedding first dance lessons from Alexis Massey at Soho Dance LA and was completely blown away, both by the amazing dance studio space, and especially by Alexis' grace and excellence as a teacher! We had two 5-hour bootcamp style workshops over 2 weekends and we can't thank Alexis enough for realizing our dreams of doing Ed Sheeran's Thinking Out Loud routine down to the tee. She's one of the best dance teachers we've ever come across, was so patient and able to break down complicated dance steps into simpler moves (neither of us have any professional dancing background), yet she's very technical and is adamant for us to get the techniques right with repeated drills, rather than just going through the motions. Because of that, our guests at the wedding couldn't believe it when we told them that we had no prior dancing background. She's also very friendly, funny and super approachable - we love her! My boyfriend and I had the opportunity to experience a salsa lesson with Thomas. It was very fun, easy to follow and not as intimidating as I thought it would be. Thomas has a very relaxed and simple to follow method. My boyfriend and I are at different skill levels. Thomas was able to teach each of us where we were at and it made it easy to just relax and have fun. Thomas is practical, talented and has a calm demeanor. It was fun learning from Thomas. I sometimes take dance classes at this location and really like the atmosphere in the study. It's very small and it can get crowded quickly. The place is kept clean and the rooms are decently specious. I would come to the studio more often if it wasn't a but far for me. I also like that they have underground parking. The large ballroom is well suited for big events, it can accommodate lots of people and has high ceilings which helps prevent the space from getting too hot. Large main dance room; well lit with modern sound equipment. Plus separate rooms for private lessons. Our dance instructor of 20+ years, Richard Croteau, has joined the teaching staff. Be careful of this studio because there are several "independent" teachers who teach inside this studio who this studio even recommends who are total con artists. They take your money and don't give you the lessons. Or worse, they take your money, give you bad lessons and extort more money out of you through threats. Their names are Allen Walls and Michael Kuka. Whatever you do, so NOT give money to Allen Walls or Michael Kuka. They are bad people, not to mention below average dancers. read more

Raul is an amazing dance teacher. His studio has amazing dancers (teachers) and they teach Salsa, Bachata, Hustle, and Ballroom. His classes are definitely not easy, but they definitely would make you a great dancer. His personality is fun and energetic which makes classes so much more fun.
