The administration process run by Bibi the co owner with her husband is inconsistent when compared to others on the tour. She said several times they didn't "do that" when making requested arrangements but when another in the group made the same request (about a month later) Bibi changed her mind. When she contacted me to report her new service, I had already made other arrangements. I also got more help from my airlines in visa applications than from her. No help if shots or pills needed for the Vietnam area. For international trip assistance, she is not that willing to help. Defensive!! Tour leader in Vietnam was fabulous! read more

In November of 2023 I booked a bike and barge trip out of Amsterdam for June of 2024. One month prior to departure Bibi, the president of the company, called to inform me that my name had not been added to the roster, the tour was full and my vacation was cancelled. The cost of the tour was refunded but no offer was made to make amends for their mistake. I contacted Nationwide, the company with whom I had purchased travel insurance, to file a claim to cover the loss of $2,450 in airfare. I had not purchased a refundable ticket given that I had travel insurance. Nationwide declined the claim stating that although they covered a wide variety of circumstances leading to trip cancellations, an error made by a tour company was not among them. I contacted Sojourn to inform them of the claim denial and to request reimbursement for my flight. They declined to provide any assistance. I have travelled with Sojourn over the years. Their refusal to offer compensation for their mistake, in my opinion, demonstrates a profound departure from their former commitment to client satisfaction. read more

WOW! Where is the 6 star option on here? If there was, I'd be going for that so consider this review as a strong STRONG 5. Sojourn is a small company that has staff with big hearts! Sojourn is an active vacation...in other words you bicycle rather than sitting on a tour bus. I did the Lake Champlain VT/NY tour for Team Sarcoma 2007 Bike Tour and I had a blast! You really get to appreciate the state more than being in a car or bus simply because you can smell the smells, really see the green, and you can slowly ride alone or zip with your friends down a descent--your choice! (all they ask is you reconnect with them for lunch, dinner, and group activities...unless you really want to bike on) And no they don't send you on a death ride, there are options for easy rides, long rides, hilly rides--etc. And if you are really tired or just simply don't want to bike anymore for the day, you can just flag down a sag wagon for a lift (or for a snack). They give you directions, which are complete and easy to follow--and they brief you in the morning so there are no miscommunications. Plus they have an experienced Sojourn rider out on the same route so there are no worries! What really impressed me is that Sojourn typically does tours with groups that are like, 12-20 people in size. How big was the bike tour? Try 52 with a few "day trippers" coming and going day-by-day! Sojourn has never done and under-taking like this before and let me say they did it with finesse. Sojourn staff is up early to unload bikes and up late for maintenance and loading bikes--they work work work but always have a chipper smile! :) I would DEFINITELY go on another Sojourn vacation--it's like adult summer camp without the cheesy songs around the pit fire! read more

Mixed review. The bikes are great. the route Burlington to Montreal was great. But very little was included in the price - the hotels were tired at best and what food they did provide was not great. Nearly everything was "on your own". Two guides were great but one was really bad - rude, condescending, etc. If you are a casual biker looking for a nice vacation, I wouldn't pick this company. Poor communication and customer service with booking process. Cannot recommend. Very disappointed with my first interaction with this company. You cannot book on the website and have to call. (which is fine, if you were given the important information when you called). I called, gave them all my information and credit card and and it appeared my reservation was confirmed. Several days later I noticed they had called me several times so I called them back and was informed that they were cancelling my trip as I was the only one booked. (I'm not sure when they would have told me if I hadn't called back)... "They hadn't run my credit card". Well unfortunately, I had already booked a hotel in europe for the 4 days prior to the trip and that was non-refundable. ($400+) The customer service rep took no responsibility. Stated that "terms and conditions were on website"; "trips aren't confirmed until 90 days ahead of time". None of this was explained when I called. He actually knew I was the only one signed up for the trip when I called and he didn't tell me. During that follow up call, he asked me if could go in June instead of September (!) or if I had friends I could ask to go to fill the trip (!!). Said he would contact me in a few days with updated information and never did. I asked to have call from manager or owner. None has been forthcoming. The same sales rep called me back in response to an email I sent requesting a call from the manager/owner... basically made a bunch of excuses and talked about policies and processes that he should have explained when I booked instead of giving the impression he was actually taking my reservation. In fact, the sales rep would not even give me the name of his manager owner when I asked for it. Said he would pass along the information and they would call me back "if able". Never will use this company again. No transparency. No integrity. Poor customer service and communication. I'm in the hole for $400 hotel (unless I find another trip the same dates/location) and all could have been avoided with transparency and good communication. Beware of tours that have "sales prices"-- I'm guessing those are the ones they aren't filling and probably are likely to be cancelled. Would not describe this as a "boutique" company as the customer service is not at "boutique" level. I will be making a report to the better business bureau about the poor communication, because I'm out $400 for my hotel unless I can find a different tour to match the dates. If a company has a terms and conditions that is critical to trip planning, and its on the web - then you should either be referred to web when you call to review this info, or you should be told, or you should be able to book on the web and instructed to make note of it there. read more

My husband and I booked a trip over a year ago with Sojourn for one specific reason, we were able to drive there and not have to take a plane. We have a doctors note stating my husband is unable to fly due to medical reasons. Now due to covid we cannot cross the boarder to get there so we have to cancel. I spoke with the owner of the company approximately late July and he suggested we wait to see what the U.S Government would decide on August 23 2021. I called him once it was confirmed that the boarder would be closed until September 29 2021 and wanted to cancel as it was getting to close. We paid over $6000 Canadian. The company has a waiting list for this particular time and trip and our place has already been filled, however, the owner will only refund us $2025. He refuses to refund the rest. We are so angry and disappointed as this was a lot of money and nothing to him. Now we are unable to plan a trip in Canada that we could actually get to. We thought we could trust this company as we had travelled with them before, sadly the owners greed wins and we are out a significant amount of money. We went on the Columbia River Gorge trip. The trip was one of the best vacations we have ever had. Everyone we dealt with was very accommodating and knowledgeable. All of the places we stayed were wonderful, food was great and the I can't say enough about our 2 guides, Mark and Rob, they worked so hard and were extremely pleasant; they really spoiled us! I am already thinking about our next trip with Sojourn. It is a top notch company. read more
