I would like to start by saying I'm super excited we have a spot near by for Mexican bowls considering I work less than a block away, well let's just say my co workers were jumping for joy and strongly suggested please try this place please please please! I'll try I ordered a bowl with a few toppings as a call in order and when I arrived to pick up our food for the office my con-worker says her quesadilla didn't have cheese on one side none of the filling either, than...to go on to my food after spending almost 10.00 on my bowl :( to find that portion that was prepared was very small. I was strolling down H Street last night and saw the sign for ALL DAY $2 Tacos! Unfortunately, I'm a pescatarian and the shrimp/fish tacos weren't included in that special. However, we still ordered and I loved my shrimp burrito. My friend was able to order all her meaty tacos for $2 each. They came on a corn tortilla, that she didn't like too much. Make sure you ask for a flour one if you prefer it. I also ordered a strawberry margarita that was quite tasty with the sugar rim. They had a lot of different sizes and flavors to choose from. I live on Capitol Hill in the Hst Corridor and decided I wanted SOL for dinner. I started out thinking I would order the chicken & steak fajita, which is available on Postmates, since it's freezing and didn't want to walk or move my car. I ended up driving down there to make the order and somehow fajitas are nowhere on the menu. False advertisement has to be the worst thing ever, ESPECIALLY since my taste buds were set on chicken & steak fajitas! Needless to say the servers looked at me like I was stupid and couldn't explain why fajitas were available through Postmates and not at the restaurant. In an attempt to remain optimistic, I settled for steak tacos and somehow they're out of steak. Idk what their purpose is at this point. read more

Unfortunately, I have not physically visited this little gem; however, I have been able to participate in Taco Tuesday thanks to my neighbor. These tacos are the absolute best!!!!!! The chicken and steak have been personal faves so far but I'm anxious to try every last one offered. The meat is tender and full of flavor. I can't wait to visit and try some of the other menu items. With limited affordable lunch spots around, we could definitely use a spot like this in the Farragut North/West area of DC. Give it some thought SOL! read more

My friend and I were looking for an affordable and tasty place to eat/drink before going to RnR Hotel for a going away party last Friday. Having passed by Sol numerous times, we figured we'd give it a shot. We ate upstairs in the cantina. Our server (I cannot remember her name for the life of me, but it was a very, very unique name), was FANTASTIC. She was polite, upbeat, and friendly. The margs were delicious, chips and salsa on point, and our meals were very tasty! I got a chicken mole enchiladas, and my friend got the steak and shrimp fajitas. The accompanying black beans/rice/guacomole salad was more than filling. With great service and delicious food, we will certainly be back again soon! read more

The food and atmosphere were great, but the service was terrible. Our party or five prefer margaritas and were denied a margarita glass, despite the drawings and descriptions on the chalkboard wall. We were the only people upstairs in the restaurant and our server still did not check on us or offer us more water. There was a hair in one of our dishes that did not come from any of our heads. The server inspected it for a while and told us that there were not any women in the kitchen. We told them that the atmosphere was so great, but they seemed more annoyed that we came to eat in the restaurant than enthusiastic. They also automatically added 18% gratuity to our party of 5. Went perusing around H street and saw a grand opening of this place, with 4 stars on yelp. What's not to like? How about their burrito. It's pretty much another burrito place that tries to be Chipotle, but they didn't want to pay the franchise fee. Unfortunately, I felt this place was kinda weak-sauce, literally, their sauces were weak and the burritos were lacking in flavor. The fajita vegetables were not grilled and charred like Chipotles, and I felt the meat weren't flavored very well. In short, I left this place unsatisfied. I'm not one of those "Chipotle is the best thing in the world!" fanboys either, I just think it's decent, but it is the benchmark by which all fast-casual burrito places are judged, and Sol fails this benchmark miserably by failing to char their fajita vegetables, properly seasoning/flavoring the meat, topped with weak-sauce at that. read more

We stopped by this place before catching a show at the Atlas theatre around 6 pm. The place kind of reminded me of chipotle. You stand in line and order at the counter and they put everything together in front of you. Though I think they have waiter service later in the evening, I saw a waitress setting the place up. Small place, interesting decor, wooden benches and seats, kind of like a park bench. My family and I tried the burrito bowl with various toppings. The chicken was the best. My hubby had the tilapia, deep fried in batter The fajitas for the burrito bowl were fresh out of the skillet, yum! The mexican rice that they use for the burrito bowl is the best I've had anywhere. I also tried the beef tacos, the meat was a bit chewy and left a bit to be desired. I also had the margaritas, really good. For dessert we had the tres leches cake, very rich & moist, was a bit too sweet for my taste but still delicious and big enough for 2 people to share. After reading the great reviews, I was disappointed with SOL. My friends and I are visiting the DC area and were looking for a sit-down Mexican restaurant to grab some food and drinks, as shown from previous reviews and pictures there is an upstairs restaurant option and margaritas on the menu listed. When we arrived it was only the fast food open and no margaritas were available, although still posted on the menu in the physical store. The food was good but nothing extraordinary, which at least made up for the lack of the dining experience we wanted. The website did not show any info about the upstairs restaurant being closed nor no alcoholic beverages, and this should be posted for others to know about if things have changed. read more

Sol (upstairs) was pretty decent... The staff service was incredible! They have a little patio that can accommodate maybe 15. Their adult version of aguas frescas has tequila...the tamarindo is fresh, not syrup! They put big chunks of avocado in their salsa. And they kept the anejo coming fast and furious. I guess I'm just a stickler for decor. I like my mexican spots to feel mexican.... a few virgin de guadalupe candles doesn't quite cut it for me. Would stop again if I'm doing an H street pub crawl, but its not worth a special trip. read more

I give SOL 3.5 stars. It would be higher but I think I still have guacamole in my hair from the tacos I had here. They were so messy and essentially exploded all over. Delicious but also disastrous and incredibly difficult to eat. I tried the veggie, grilled veggie and chicken to get the full picture of what this truck has to offer. I thought all were fantastically flavorful and I especially loved the green salsa. I think this place could actually fare well in San Diego. It had a more authentic taste than most of the other taco trucks that I have tried. The only reason they didn't get a higher rating is they served the most useless tortillas in the world. I went for corn instead of flour, as I feel this is the only way a taco should be enjoyed. Unfortunately they fell apart within seconds. I literally took two bites of the first taco and it disintegrated. I was pretty disappointed by this as it defeated the purpose of ordering tacos over say a burrito bowl. I enjoyed SOL but don't necessarily recommend ordering tacos unless you are down to get dirty and have a messy meal. read more

Yes. Finally. Mexican on H st. With margaritas. OMG, yes. This is a review of the full service restaurant, which is upstairs, and basically not related to the taquiera downstairs, except in name and (probably) ingredients. We ended up here after a CMYE, because there was a sign outside that advertised $5 margaritas and half price nachos. Um, yeah? The staff graciously let us sit and order, despite the fact that it was 10 minutes before their posted closing time. The bartender was great- funny, but not too intrusive, and the margaritas were on-point. The nachos were FANTASTIC. Like, seriously. I would eat this same meal every day, if I could. They also have great happy hour specials that run until 8pm. The dining area is small and cozy (roughly half the size of the upstairs at Sticky Rice, minus the addition), and intimate without feeling formal. I could not be more pleased with my experience at Sol, and I absolutely will be back! read more

Average DC taqueria. Prices are on par with other DC restaurants, but the options are limited (beef, fish & tongue) in the downstairs section of the restaurant (there may be more options upstairs). The fish taco was well seasoned and prepared (the perfect level of crisp) and the portion size was generous. Not so much the case with the lengua (tongue) taco, which was a shame because the scraps (literally) that I got were actually tasty. I would've been inclined to rate this place closer to a 3/3.5 if the portion sizes were more consistent. All in all, not a bad place to get some tacos if you're craving Mexican food, and you can wash it down with $5.00 margaritas & $3.00 beers. This was my first DC food truck and it was pretty average. It's a small truck featuring a guy/girl team...of course the girl seems to be doing most of the work cooking while the guy hands you your food haha Other reviews are spot on about this place being similar to Chipotle. You can either order 3 tacos, a burrito or a bowl for about $7. I tried a chicken burrito and it was very filling. I wasn't in love with the tortillas they use, maybe because I'm used to Chipotle's. One of the blandest burritos I have ever eaten. I ordered a steak burrito with everything except for lettuce on mine - I even asked for extra hot sauce knowing that hot sauce can fix even the worst burrito. It did not. I can't believe people are comparing this to Chipotle or Qdoba - it's not even close. Every single item in the burrito - other than the guacamole - was flavorless. The hot sauce was hardly spicier than Tabasco sauce. And 7 bucks (plus extra for the guacamole)?! You have to be kidding me. If this was priced at a $5 or less, it might be a viable option, just because of the amount of food you get (the burrito was pretty filling). But for $7, I will never go back to this truck again. For those near Farragut or Franklin square, don't even bother when this truck rolls up. It really depends on what day and time of day you go - some days the food is amazing, other days it's alright; depends on who is making your meal. I will say that the brisket and barbacoa are my absolute favorite protein. The barbacoa is perfectly seasoned and cooked - best in a soft flour taco. And get the Mexican rice and pinto beans. Surprisingly, Sol offers a lot of toppings you wouldn't see at your typical build as you order Mexican restaurant. Give it a shot! read more

My office recently moved to the Navy Yard from Falls Church, so I'm very excited to now be a part of the phenomenon that is DC food trucks! SOL is a distinctive black truck with orange flames along the bottom. It's Chipotle-style, meaning they offer tacos, burritos, and bowls with your choice of steak, chicken, carnitas, or veggie. All items are priced at $7, which includes unlimited toppings (rice, beans, pico de gallo, sour cream, lettuce, corn, cheese, red hot sauce, and medium green sauce). Guac is $1.50 extra, but is included in the veggie option. I was bummed that the picture showed hard tacos, but the only tacos they serve are soft, so I settled for a burrito. It's no Chipotle, but I was satisfied with my first experience with SOL. As one user stated, I wish their sauces had more zing and spice to them. I got the veggie burrito with all the toppings, including the hot sauce, and it barely tasted like it was medium. The tortilla was a good consistency, not soggy and not rubbery, and the ingredients tasted pretty fresh. I wouldn't say my burrito was exactly bland, but again I would have liked a bit more flavor in the ingredients, maybe some extra cilantro, onion, and/or jalepeno. The price was comparable to Chipotle. Chipotle charges around $6.50 plus tax, so it's about the same. Really not bad for a relatively filling lunch in DC. And the service was pretty fast so I think I waited in line only about 5-10 minutes. Overall, I'd be up for another SOL burrito when the truck is back at the Navy Yard! read more

Visiting relatives in DC and looking for something open on Labor Day, this taco joint was one of the few open, so stopped by and sampled the al pastor tacos. They were freshly made and you could choose corn or flour tortillas. But for three tacos for $11, I expected better. I have had more flavorful tacos in NY (Port Chester, White Plains, even NYC). They were pretty stingy with the pork. Not really more than 2.5 stars out of five. read more

I didn't think that anything on the SOL truck was unlike either of those restaurants and had about the same quality. If they had like a variety of homemade salsas or had a special topping offering every week, I think they could set themselves apart. I went on a Saturday because it was outside Eastern Market and I once again did not feel like waiting in line for the stands inside. The production was quite fast- I was impressed about that- and they seemed to do a good job at keeping everything separate. Vegan reviewer I really want to love this place. It's close to home, the burrito price is just about right. It's cute. People are friendly . They have vegetarian black beans. But something is missing- I dont know what, but the bean burritos are really bland. I'm also really sad because they had vegan cheese and sour cream and they stopped carrying it. They were the only place to do so and it's what set them apart. Now they don't have it and I'm finding the burritos very run of the mill and I'm not going nearly as often. We sat upstairs for the first time last night and it was very pleasant. They messed my order up twice though I'm trying not to hold that against them because I did alter an existing menu item and it confused them. I'm knocking this down a few stars based on service and surliness alone. The food was good as were the drinks... a bit over priced for the drinks considering the amount one gets in a glass but meh I can live with it. When one goes out to eat one doesn't just go for the food ... one goes out for the experience to have some fun laugh and know one is being taken care of... especially when the tab is 179 bucks for four people. We'd made reservations on OpenTable... we got there and the hostess was Uber surly saying since we'd booked barely 20 mins ago.... they didn't have time to get ready... mind you they had at least seven empty tables when we got there. The waitress was worse and took her time getting orders wrong not to mention doing her best disappearing act (oh look a magic show) The other staff couldn't figure out how to clear tables leaving us with empty dishes there whilst trying to get through meals. What's worse is they build in an 18% tip and neglect to mention it to you. Perhaps that's why the waitress didn't care much to ...oh you know waitress??? She was getting paid so meh right? Yeah foods good but I'll pass ... it's ok for the hipster crew who don't really care as long as they can drink but I go out for at least basic courtesy and service.... I'll pass. read more
