Every dish tasted like it was prepared by a master Hong Kong chef. On our first visit, we ordered the pork intestine soup, which had an incredibly rich and flavorful broth packed with generous portions of meat and ingredients. The garlic string beans were another standout, with obvious wok hei and a perfect char that brought out their flavor. We also ordered the clay pot bean curd with lamb, and the combination of savory, comforting flavors made it one of our favorite dishes of the meal.
The next day, we came back specifically for dim sum, and everything we tried was excellent. What makes this experience even more memorable is how we found the restaurant in the first place. We were originally planning to eat at Neptune's next door, but when we walked in, the owner asked if we had looked at the menu and whether we were sure we wanted to eat there. She explained that their flavors were geared more toward Western tastes, and when I asked where we could find authentic Chinese food, she immediately pointed us to Sky Chinese Cuisine. That recommendation turned out to be spot on.
The biggest downside of this place is the ambiance. The interior feels dated and a bit run-down, and it certainly isn't somewhere you'd visit for the atmosphere. But once the food arrives, none of that matters. The quality, authenticity, and execution of the dishes more than make up for the lack of polish. If you're looking for outstanding Cantonese-style Chinese food rather than a fancy dining room, Sky Chinese Cuisine is absolutely worth the visit.
