But THIS BMR, tucked off the highway at St Faustin just a couple minutes before St Jovite, with its signs advertising Tool Rental and Contractor's Entrance is the one for when you are very serious about your building projects. You are no longer messing around, you are buying siding ,tyvek and insulation by the metre like some sort of pro. It's possible you are actually a pro, the place is crawling with them. My boyfriend has officially spent hours (and what feels like millions of dollars) here since we ran into an unexpectedly major renovation at the lakehouse. I think he has a healthy crush on like 50% of the staff, and given how much help they've given us in figuring out what we're doing and what we need, and that prices here seem to be cheaper than elsewhere, and that for 30$ they deliver all the stuff that doesn't fit in the Subaru, I'm all for it. You can't quite see this place from the highway, and as you pull up it really looks like you're not in a place that's open to the public, but don't worry: it is, and it's awesome.

After a major home renovation that took most of 2019, our garden looked like a barren wasteland. It…read morewas composed of mostly rocks and construction debris. We contacted Alexis who gave us a 3D render of the work he would do. On the first nice day of spring, he and his team appeared at our doorstep to fix up our garden. He estimated it would take two weeks. In less than ten days, our wasteland turned into a little paradise. They cleaned the soil and removed the debris. They built a beautiful fence and deck. They planted flowers and plants that would last. They set us up with a fruit and vegetable garden, and designed a harmonious paved entrance to the yard in our front lawn. As for customer service, Alexis was available anytime for questions, and he was able to make changes on the fly based on our needs. He returned twice after the work was done to personally do minor tweaks, and really make sure we were satisfied. And we are. My family and I spent all summer in the garden, and let me tell you it was worth every penny. Highly recommended.

That's it, that's the review. Here's the Public Service Announcement: you must get your chimney cleaned every year! Do not slack on this or you may find yourselves with flames coming out of the top of your chimney, your partner on the roof shoveling it with snow as you call 911 from across the street as we did. We were very very lucky and everything was ok, and we upgraded a very old system following this incident and now keep the chimney ship shape. But just know: even a barely used cottage chimney can get coated in flammable residue in just one year. Our friend is a volunteer firefighter in the Laurentiens and tells us they get called out to fires almost every day caused by chimneys, and in almost every case there is massive damage to the home. Clean your pipes people and stay safe out there!!

I received notice…read morefrom my notary (because my realtor was on vacation when all heck went down) that the bank had decided that I could not buy the house I wanted to buy with the water test as it was. I wasn't allowed to deal with the minor water issues there in my own time, they had to be dealt with in the 48hrs remaining for the purchase to go through, and so I needed to find a plumber. I called a few who were recommended but they all said they didn't have time, or were going to charge me $1500, or were outright rude on the phone. When I found the number for Roger Labonte I was at my wits end, but I got someone super helpful on the phone right away. I explained the situation, and I explained (what no other company was willing to listen to) that the water was already filtered and clean and just needed a UV filter added to an already perfectly good system. The person I spoke with said: "so you don't want to pay for anything you don't need, that makes sense, let me call our service person right now, see if they will fit you in, and make sure they know to do just what needs to be done, don't replace anything that's already in place in and functional working." I was a bit stunned by this reasonableness, and more stunned still when he called me back within minutes to tell me they would fit me in no problem. And even more stunned when it was all done and I got the bill. They could have taken advantage of my position and they didn't, and that's huge. Everyone I have spoken to at this office has been super friendly, super bilingual, you can tell by their voices their like each other and the work they do. These will be my plumbers of choice up North from now, I am super thankful to them for making a stressful process much smoother and kinder.

I was so happy to discover this great garden center off the 117 up in the Laurentians near my…read moreplace. I had done a lot of research to figure out the plants I wanted - indigenous to Quebec, perennials, good for the soil and light I have, appealing to butterflies, and friendly together. The selection at Levert is quite vast and still I found what I was looking for in minutes. Plus a couple extras on sale like a blueberry tree I'm so excited about! Everything is clearly laid out in sections that make sense and every plant is labeled with a Quebec flag if it's local, what zone it grows in, how wide and tall it gets, and a helpful description of how it'll look over time. Prices were fair and affordable and service was super helpful, quickly figuring out plant names in French from the English and helping us find the one or two weird things we wanted. In addition to plants, we needed some fill for where some work had been done near the house, plus gardening earth and mulch. We were able to get a yard of each delivered, saving us tons of trips with bags of dirt in the car. They are equipped to help with everything from tiny container gardens to huge flagstone landscapes, and they are family owned and operated by folks who still live about 10 minutes away from the shop. Great people and a great local business, so happy to have them as neighbours.
