I've tried this place a few times and really have tried to like it. Today I had an appointment booked for an eyebrow wax. I arrived and servicer was still on her way in - totally fine. she arrived about ten minutes after my appt time which again no big deal. She had me sit in the chair prepping for the wax and tweezed my brows for a second and stepped away. I was sitting there for a bit and sat up and saw her in another room texting. She eventually returned about 5-10 minutes later letting me know that there was no was available so she wouldn't be able to perform the service. Kind of frustrating I spent a total of ~25-30 min here and ultimately was denied the service I booked in advance. It would have been nice if they called me beforehand or even told me when I first arrived so I didn't waste my time. read more

I have been going to Val for many years now. Val is extremely talented and truly an amazing stylist and color expert! I can't say enough great things about how fabulous Val is! The entire team at Soma are all wonderful too! From the moment you walk in, you're greeted with a warm welcome that makes you feel instantly comfortable. The salon is clean and stylish and has a natural vibe with all the beautiful greenery. Val is fantastic and is very attentive to every detail of my hair and color! I absolutely love this salon. I've gone to many different stylists here and they have all been great. Most recently, I received color and cut from Edna who is AMAZING. After showing her a picture of what I wanted, she gave me a couple options with different price points. I really appreciated that she gave me the choice to decide what I can afford instead of just doing what she thinks is best and surprising me with a huge bill. Edna is extremely friendly. She takes the extra time to really make you feel like you're getting pampered. While she was coloring my hair, she told me to go on my phone and have some "me time". It was honestly so refreshing to just relax and be silent instead of feeling like you have to keep conversation the entire time. Little things like that made the experience that much better. Of course, the most amazing part was how the cut and color came out! Absolutely obsessed. I have attached pictures of before and after. I truly recommend Edna or any other stylist at this salon. Soma is taking strict precautions to make sure its reopening is as safe and sanitary as possible. I received a call 15 minutes before my appointment to come by. Before entering, I was instructed to use hand sanitizer, answer a list of health questions, and get my temperature taken. All hairdressers were wearing masks the entire time. I'm very grateful that Soma is taking health measures seriously! My haircut itself was wonderful. Alesandro was very friendly and talkative; he made the hour go by quickly. My hair is very thick and long, but Alesandro treated it gently and made the haircut a pleasant experience! Also, I could tell that he was sanitizing stations very carefully between clients. Every station had a large bottle of hand sanitizer and Lysol spray. read more

So soooooooo good. No really. As you can see in my photos, I have20 really curly hair. And I wear it long. It is HARD to find someone who can cut curly hair...well. Also, I live in a small town in Vermont. We've got great quality of life, but not so many great beauty/personal grooming services. I discovered Assembly Row last year. I can get in my car, drive 2 hrs, park and then just walk to All The Things. So I started coming down when I get a day off and taking a mini (one day) vacation. And on one of those mini vacays I decided I REALLY needed a haircut. Like STAT. I found Soma on Yelp. I walked in and asked if they had a stylist who knew how to cut curly hair. They set me up with Odali. I am 51 years old. Odali gave me the best haircut of my life. The best. The kind of haircut that OTHER beauty professionals have seen and then RAVED to me about. No joke. Amazing. Odali has cut my hair twice now. The second cut may have come out even better than the first. It's the second cut that is in the pics. All I do is shampoo, work in some product and let my hair "air dry." So what you see is the "natural fall" of Odali's cut... Today I went to Soma for a waxing (mini Brazilian and backside...). I've been waxing for over 25 yrs. It's a damn Struggle. FOR YEARS now I've done "most" of my waxing myself. But there are things/places you need help with/to go to a professional for. I like to refer to The Upper Valley in Vermont (where I live) as a "waxing desert." I've had some NOT great experiences. I made my waxing appointment online and just "took my chances" with the waxing professional assigned to me. I got Tara. And can I just say, "WOW" ??? My waxing took half a damn hour start to finish. She got what I wanted done PERFECTLY. It was as close to painless as you're going to get when you wax your Lady Parts. AND IT WAS $20 CHEAPER than the same damn thing back home. So. Much. Winning. (I made an appointment for a 90 min facial with Tara...) I almost forgot!! After my last hair cut Odali blew out my hair. Uh. Wow. (I've attached 4 pics of the blowout.) If you NEED a blowout?? I love coming to Soma and seeing Estefania for my cuts and color! In the time that I've known her I've changed my hair color from blonde to a darker red, done trims to huge chops, and edged up my look perfectly. Not only is my hair not damaged, I get compliments on it even 8 weeks out! I cannot recommend Estefania and the amazing team at Soma enough. Receptionists remember my name, we have actual conversations, stylists who aren't servicing me will recognize and talk to me while I'm processing, and the vibes are immaculate. 10/10 would recommend! read more

Folks, it is illegal to discriminate against someone on the basis of gender. I got a haircut here. I was charged a 'men's cut' rate of $60. My wife, who has a shorter haircut than I do, was offered a cut at $110 - simply because she's a woman. Even though they knew her hair was shorter than mine, they couldn't reduce the rate - because she's a woman, they said they had to charge her the 'woman's rate.' This is illegal discrimination. It's the 'pink tax' on overdrive. I will NOT be going back to this place again and strongly recommend against using a service that is so blatantly misogynistic and discriminatory toward women. read more

I was going to Soma for my esthetician and she was AHmazing (Tara) but she moved and left. Then I used to get my haircut by Bridget, she moved and they recommended someone to me (Cara) who actually cut my hair uneven and I'm still waiting after 1.5 years for this one strand to actually grow so it will match everything else. I even went back after that experience and tried someone else (Edna) who was so awesome. Very friendly, very personable and knowledgeable. She tried to fix what was previously done but wanted me to grow out my hair some more. Unfortunately, their front desk is not good. They basically harass you when you call it's super loud on the other end of the phone, they're constantly changing appointments and times. The last time I called for an appointment, they called me 2 times to change the appointment on the last time they called me 3x back to back, each time I'd answer they'd hang up to talk to another guest. Then when I finally got them on the phone they put me on hold... at this point I'm fuming, only to hear them tell me that my appointment needs to be changed once againnnnn. Just cancelled at that point, but sad because love Edna so great! Also the owners are really cool people, talked with them a few times. But the front desk needs some work... Will say I think the prices are INSANE at this place, but that's honestly just my opinion (100+ for a cut). read more

I have black hair. I recently got highlights from some other salon which went horribly wrong. I try to color my hair at home and go dark but made it even worse. I came to Soma salon to get it fixed. Ariel was very polite and helpful. She educated me about how the highlights work on dark hair and how I can fix my hair with the least amount of damage. She was patient and understanding. She had an intern working with her who did an amazing job too. I am very happy with the results. I have been to this salon several times in last few years. Edna, Shawn and Ariel all provide amazing service. Every one in the salon is very polite. read more

I had a really bad experience at soma salon , the stylist (Odali Diaz) made me feel extremely uncomfortable with my curly hair (she clearly didn't have enough experience on how to deal with it so was giving me a hard time by having a grumpy face all the time I was there, and asked someone for help at the end) , not willing to explain much to me the difference between foils and balayage, and was not friendly to me. She added the product to my hair and told me I'll be back in a minute and disappeared for 30 minutes, returning from outside of the store, which made me feel worried that the product might have been left for a long time. Overall the experience was horrible although my hair color turned out nice , but definitely not going back ever again. read more

Saw KARA MEAD for a cut and blow dry. Exceeded my expectations in talent and service. I have medium length, thick hair. She customized my cut to look exactly like the photo I brought in. (Bring a photo of the look you are trying to achieve.) She taught me how to style my hair at home to achieve a beach wave look with my flat iron. Maybe the worst cut I've had in years. I told my stylist that I was growing my hair out and just wanted it shaped and the sides and back cleaned up a bit. The first thing she did was take a clipper directly to the side of my head-- not over a comb. No going back after that. I was in such shock after I just told her I was growing my hair out. Fortunately, hair grows back. Unfortunately for me, I'm in a wedding this weekend. 2 stars for everyone being pleasant and having a nice salon, but suffice to say that I will not be going back. read more

Honestly one of the worst hair experiences I've had. I had an appointment to get my hair cut and colored (one color all over and all one length with framing pieces in the front). Once I showered the next day i realized my hair was inches longer in some sections and the back was an entirely different length. I made an appointment to get it fixed with another stylist for 4 pm the following week. As I was on my way there, I was told the stylist is running behind and could see me at 4:30 which was totally fine....I get there to see the stylist hasn't even started cutting the current girl's hair. The front desk lady told me "she's finishing up now" which simply was not true. It's then 5:15, and the stylist comes outside but isn't there to get me...she's taking pictures of the girl's hair. I wasn't seen until 5:15, an hour and 15 min after my scheduled appointment to FIX my hair. I have been coming to Soma for about 5 years now. My regular stylist was unavailable so I scheduled with Odali Diaz. To use the term "passive aggressive" to describe her would be a tremendous understatement. The attitude that Odali immediately presented me with was disarming. It set the stage for an extremely awkward appt that I was now committed to sitting thru (as I desperately needed my color done). She went thru the motions of my services without uttering ONE word to me. I can appreciate that she is young and early in her career... Perhaps she hasn't yet developed the skills to maintain the typical stylist/client banter during an appt however this does not excuse her entitled attitude, cold demeanor and lack of relatability. Before my hair stylist start hair cutting, she gave neck and head massage using some oil, it was very relaxing. She was enthusiastic and very professional in hair cutting.
