I promptly sent over our last two years of tax returns, as requested by the assistant, believing they would be reviewed ahead of our appointment. ​Based on the many good reviews on Yelp, I definitely expected a great experience and trusted that the $275 consultation fee would be money well spent. ​We were required to pay a non-refundable $275 consultation fee for a one-hour slot before the meeting even started. ​About 25 minutes into the consultation, after receiving only general, easily-Googled answers ("it should be better if you get married almost surely"), I asked for specific calculations. The accountant revealed he hadn't reviewed any of the documents I had sent. ​I was stunned. The entire point of sending two years of tax returns and paying a high up-front fee was for him to be prepared to address my specific financial situation. When I pressed for the specific calculations I needed, he quoted an additional cost of nearly $300 per hour just to review the questions and returns--work that I had already paid for him to do in the first place. ​The "consultation" ended after 30 minutes, feeling like a complete waste of time. I left feeling utterly scammed out of the $275 consultation fee since no preparatory work was done and I received zero specific, actionable financial advice. ​While I appreciate they got me in the same day, I would have much rather waited for an appointment with an accountant who actually took the time to review the materials provided. We recently sold our home in Palos Verdes and moved to Redding CA. We needed to hire a tax preparer as we had to deal with capitol gains from the sale of the house. I had called this office to ask them if we could complete the service on video as my father is 91 years old and was unable to make the trip back down to that area. We were told that this was not problem and we paid the money and waited for the meeting. At the time of the meeting, we were told that we had to come in-person and he could not do anything for us if we couldn't come in person. I informed him that we had gotten permission from his office to do the appointment via webcam but apparently that didn't matter . We were charged 195.00 for an appointment that the only thing we received was the information that he wouldn't serve us unless we made the long drive down there. read more

I spoke to someone on the phone and the initial call seemed credible. They have a modern website with all of the bells and whistles, and I figured being located in Torrance it would be a little more flexible with pricing. However, I'm glad I spoke up and asked about the consultation I was going to attend because they charge you just to sit down and talk with them to see if its a fit. It seems a bit ridiculous and I told the guy that but he said 'people will take the information and leave.' Well, thats just the risk you take, I told him. I have a web design / marketing agency and if I charged people to speak with them, I'd never have any clients! I don't know if it's considered high or not, but they also bill at $175/hour, which he said is normal but to me it seemed higher than what I'm used to. Anyway, I ended up passing on them. read more

Had big trouble with taxes due to incorrect reporting in two states with my filing. Went to Steven, spent about an hour sorting our details, giving him my life info, etc and he wrote down as much as he could. I was a bit nervous at first because I had about 2 weeks left to file taxes, and was afraid I wouldn't make it. I did all my correspondence over email, Steve and Dao were very responsive and at least gave me a short but easy answer to my questions. Steve is not cheap, but given the fact that I he can navigate through the taxes and knew what to do in my special situation, I think it was well worth the cost. I would ask for Steve though next time to not charge me an arm and a leg, but let's see how difficult my tax situation is again next year.
