The decor isn't what you go to Emilys Steakhouse for though; you go for the steak. This is the best steak I have had in Derby- hands down! Cooked perfectly and full of flavour. I cannot say enough about how much I enjoyed the experience of eating at Emilys, who, by the way, is very pleasant, helpful and attentive as your host. The price is what you would expect for a decent steak £12-16 but that is a bargain for what you get. My one complaint would be the overpriced wine but, then again, I should have stuck with beer.

We decided we would just leave out of frustration when she came out all frantic with our food. It wasn't even that good and our waitress literally never checked in even after all that. After returning home this is the only bad meal / food experience we had while in England. I paid close to $70 pounds to be incredibly disappointed. I deserve a refund and an apology.

It was tasty otherwise, though the 'onion rings' in the burger came apart long before they were cooked, leaving streaks of batter within the burger. They're perhaps best left as a side. The chips/fries here are a fail. The nothingness of the skinny fries or the pale not quite crispness of the chunky fries don't leave much of a dilemma. I avoid. As is par for the course in a restaurant that narrowly misses the mark, the service is mostly excellent; the staff is warm and friendly. That is worth the visit. Otherwise, some quality-control is needed.
