For a speakeasy, the bar drinks are super underwhelming. One bartender under poured most ppl wouldn't get a second drink, except one guy who told him to top off all his drinks. You would think bartender would have noticed he was under pouring but maybe that's from the bar. This is a cute little speakeasy bar that I stopped by at because my friend hosted her listening party there which I thought was pretty cool to utilize that space. My friend had two signature drinks that were priced around $16. The bartender was super kind and he was just amazing. The location is really nice on the inside and aesthetically pleasing. The entrance was prty cool becaus you would never think of the inside to be that way. It's a speakeasy so it's cool. It's spacious. My friend hosted her event on a Friday night and afterward at 10pm, the DJ comes and plays the tunes. I am not sure if they switch it up nightly but they were playing House EDM music. There were people there ready to enjoy. It is in Chinatown so depends on the time you arrive, you can definitely get decent street parking OR there's parking lots around the area that provides you with another option. The ONLY con was that, there are NO signs of getting to the location. It's hard to find the place because it's in a walkway but hidden. There are other shops and apartments around but if you don't know where you are going with no signs, it's tough to find. read more

Came here to watch my friends DJ on a Saturday night. Small and intimate space with whimsical decor inside. Had a blast there! There are no signs outside for the bar but there is huge colorful bird decor on the walls so you can't miss it. This place is basically at the Chinatown metro station so it makes for a perfect stop before walking around Chinatown or heading on the train. I went here today looking for a new coffee shop close to my favorite park and I'm so glad I found this place! It's tucked away in a really cute alleyway in Chinatown. The outside patio is very cute and socially distanced, and the barista was super kind and helpful. I ordered a cappuccino with almond milk. It was delicious and strong. I sat out here and got some work done, and it was super peaceful. I also saw that they have $6 cocktails which look absolutely delicious. My only wish is that they were open later than 2pm, but I'll probably still come back to try the $6 cocktails! read more

I went to check out the current Songbird x Lately collab that's going on right now. I was so pleasantly surprised. All staff were wearing masks. I was concerned about the outdoor seating available since it was 100 degrees, but it's actually all in the shade. The food was so good. Everything came out in boxes and with plastic silverware. I never felt unsafe. The few people next to me also were great about social distancing and keeping their masks on unless they were eating. The standout dish for me was actually the apricot jam toast. Apparently, they go to the farmers market and purchase whatever fit is freshest for this dish. Next week is apparently strawberry week. I may just need to come back! There's a bunch of cocktails and alcoholic drinks that you can big to go as well. I loved the adult juice box. It was a lot of fun. I also really enjoyed my iced caramel latte with oat milk. Great flavor and completed my meal well. They had great Covid procedures. I'm so sad that the speakeasy isn't open right now. I hope to be able to visit one day! Because it was so hot, I opted to park in the underground Blossom lot. It's $1 for each hour. There's also meters. Basically look for the metro link and you'll find Songbird. Songbird Cafe was a great discovery. We came here last night for a show and all of us had a complete blast. It's a speakeasy of sorts, so I don't want to ruin the experience by saying too much. That said, this review will be pretty short. If looking for a fun, unique spot to grab a couple of drinks at, Songbird Cafe is a very good option. Service is friendly, the vibes are great, and the decor is really cool. I hope to come back here soon. This is officially one of my favorite bars in all of Los Angeles now. read more

This is a super fun speakeasy place. It's hidden in Chinatown and when you walk in, it feels like you're at a coffee shop but then you get slid into a meat locker type of entrance. This was the first bar I went to right when things were opening up from the pandemic and it was packed. Definitely wouldn't have known this speakeasy existed, tucked away in the back of the building. When you walk through the "freezer" door and take a few turns, it opens up to the prettiest bar. It got crowded fast but luckily we got a seat at the bar by Jason (best bartender ever!!!). I tried the songbird, insta-stalker, and style and grace. I loved all of them but my favorite was the insta stalker because it took me by surprise. It was a gin based drink but with an old fashion twist and the shaved cocoa on top added another layer of flavor. The songbird was refreshing and I loved the rose flavor. The style and grace is a tequila based drink and I'm a sucker for anything with tequila and cucumber. My friend had the 3-day weekend, sandals with socks, and back handed complement, which he really liked all of them. Love the cocktails here and the vibe. Definitely good signature drinks and I'm sure Jason can whip up anything if you wanted to do something different. read more

But literally the manager with blonde hair had a power trip with me and my homie cuz I guess we looked young and after showing ID he got pissed and tried to kick me and a friend out. Weren't acting obnoxious just asked if he was ok and we never seen him when we got in and we were genuinely curious for his well being. Outside he was speaking to someone, and that person even tried to calm him down when he had his power trip. Dude can't even comprehend the situation that even the security got mad at him. Tried to settle it by getting us drinks after we left, but that won't cut it cuz he knew he messed up. Overall, management drinking on the job and can't conduct himself while intoxicated everyone that weren't involved left the venue cuz of the "manager" killing the vibe. Songbird opened in late December, so this is a new bar. Enter the plaza from Broadway, you'll see the red lanterns and head towards the back where you'll see a cafe with bird decal on the windows. This is the place. Inside is nice and not too loud. It's a nice place to catch up with people without the need to yell. It's a low key place, but that might change as more people find out about Songbird. The wine bar next door is more popping with music blasting. Cocktails aren't bad. We got the Songbird (a tad sweet, but overall good) and How You Like Me Now? (sangria type drink - easy to drink) Would come again and will be interesting to see how the vibe evolves. read more

Other than what seemed like a bachelors party group, there weren't other patrons on the Saturday night that I went. Drinks are on the pricier range, but very well crafted. There isn't anything not to love about Songbird Cafe. I kinda want to keep this place a secret a little longer and not write this review, but they deserve 5 stars. Created by the same owner as Apt 503 in ktown, Songbird Cafe is the much less ratchet more adult version that people in their 30's can enjoy. More hand-crafted cocktails, less shots. The "cafe" is a well disguised secret entrance to a speakeasy bar. The bar itself is well decorated and has a great vibe. The bar is stocked and there are plenty of bitters and spices to make their specialty cocktails. The decor is cute with faux flowers hanging down from the ceiling without being ridiculous. There is usually a DJ playing music towards the back where the big screen is. They often have live music during the week so follow them on ig to keep track of what's going on. Every time I have been it was fun and relaxed. There were people, but never too many. It is cozy without being claustrophobic. My fiancé and I recently hosted a private engagement party here which was a hit. Jason the lead bartender surprised us and created a special themed drink list for us. We loved it and so did our guests. All of them were delicious depending on what type of alcohol you wanted. I loved the use of smoke in the bourbon drink. So cool. Service was quick and attentive. Our friends and family had a great time and everything went as planned. There is ample street parking along the back road near the LA Historic Park and there is also a lot downstairs. No validation but it is a flat rate of $3 after 6pm which is a steal in LA. Definitely check out Songbird Cafe the next time you are in the Chinatown area. read more

Well I went to a Halloween event thinking I will dance my Burt off. Nope the DJ played techno all night although everyone was over it. Many people talk to the dJ but only he was enjoying himself. I first learned of this place when I saw a friend DJ here months ago, so I took my bf here on a date night. We found seats at the bar and watched the mixologist, Jason, make several drinks with attention to detail, while people danced on behind us. I liked that it was a cute date spot, but also played really good music (hip hop, rap) for those that want to dance. Don't let the long list of ingredients intimidate you, sometimes I feel overwhelmed when I see a long list of unfamiliar ingredients, but I usually just find drinks that have 2-3 ingredients I recognize and enjoy. Some drinks we recommend: It's Not Me, It's you (Reyka Vodka, Averna, house made coffee, cordial, chocolate bitters) - surprisingly good, didn't know how coffee would taste with vodka. Sandals with Socks (Rittenhouse Rye, Amaro di Angostura, lemon, cane sugar, egg white) - got this one because we wanted the egg, was pleasantly surprised that it actually tasted good, light taste, slightly sweet and tart Backhanded Compliment (Cane Run Rum, Sacred Bong Brandy, pineapple, lemon, house made black tea cordial, nutmeg) - my favorite drink! If you're into sweet, fruity drinks, I think you'll like this. I was sold when I read "pineapple" and "black tea." My friends and I also celebrated NYE here and though there were some miscommunications and mishaps with our reservations, we were able to communicate our frustrations with management and come to an agreement on a resolution. This matter was handled very professionally and we were all impressed. THE SHORT: Cocktails here will run you about $14 each, but are made meticulously --- which means you'll have to wait a little longer for drinks, but better than a nasty well drink thrown together. Drinks are tasty, bartenders are friendly, music is awesome, bathrooms are clean, and decor is cute! I rarely find bars that make drinks I actually enjoy (I usually drink a little, then make my bf finish it). Highly recommend Songbird for a date night or a crazy night out with friends. read more

The event never listed any age requirement. My intent wasnt to drink. Just wanted to meet new people. But that was all ruined. The bouncer was very rude too. I admit I called them alot after I was denied. I waited 7 minutes to speak to the Manager because prior on Friday I asked the manager Jose if the event is 18 or 21 plus. Walk through their walk-in freezer door, and you will find a Asian-inspired bar. On weekend nights there will be a DJ spinning current and international hits. There's plenty of room to sit and chill. You can enjoy their decor or the visual playing on their giant screen. The artisan cocktails here are thoughtfully conceptualized and executed well. I'm always one for refreshing and not too sweet cocktails. And they deliver here. The menu changes with the seasons, but I believe a handful of drinks always stay on the menu. We sat at the bar and hung out while chatting amongst ourselves. I love how it's just the right amount of entertaining and fun while being easy to talk to friends. The venue features a small menu of delicious cocktails, one bar, four small seating tables, live DJ and cool interior decor. Even though I don't generally drink, I had a taste of both the BASIC BITCH (Reyka Icelandic Vodka, lime, raspberry, ginger beer $13) and the LOVEBIRDS IN BROOKLYN (cane run white rum, lime, honey, pomegranate $13). This is a place I would go to if I had friends visiting from out of town and wanted to show them how cool and hip I am, lol! After getting lost looking for the entrance (it wouldn't be a speakeasy if we could easily find it, right?!), we found a bouncer guarding an industrial freezer inside a dessert shop and I was thoroughly intrigued. Their menu is thoughtful and smart. I got the 3 Day Weekend, which I admit I picked purely based on its name & lack of tequila (gross). It was coffee-like and pretty exquisite honestly. The cocktails are decently priced too, I'm content with paying in the mid teens for a well crafted drink. Come here if you like & appreciate cocktails though. This ain't no vodka soda bar! Once you're inside , the place has some really cool decorations and it's nicely appointed. I will say the seating situation is not that ideal however. BUt the place more than makes up for it with with their cocktails, they have an excellent cocktail selection on the menu. Low lighting, random DJ spinning throughout the week, cocktails, and a hip-hop aesthetic in the bathroom along the walls makes this hole-in-the wall a wise visit. This place is a Chinatown (literal) hidden gem. Upon arrival, you'll have to navigate carefully to arrive at Songbird Cafe. You'll walk through a beautiful long courtyard, adorned with red lanterns and festoon lighting. Towards the end sits a lovely little plaza with a zen rock garden- that overlooks the unique Chinatown metro station. You'll notice the songbird in the window and realize you're at the right place. Incredible interior- decorated in a beautiful and simple way. It's a calm and dimly lit environment with intricately painted flowers on the ceiling. There's a multitude of faux flowers hanging from the wall also, which gives the place a very oasis like vibe! The customer service here also makes you feel like you're in a secluded little paradise. Jason took care of us this evening and his hospitality was beyond phenomenal. He was able to explain all their signature cocktails with such confidence and gave us very genuine recommendations. He checked on us constantly, was VERY polite when doing so, and even offered us some of his hot Cheetos bc we mentioned we were hungry. A good bartender and really great person! Thank you so much x a million Jason- you made our first experience there so memorable! I really like how this Chinatown bar scene is developing. It seems like people go out of their way to come here (it's not just locals). The decor included hanging flowers, and TVs. All I wanted was coffee in the morning! Little did I know, I would be meandering my way towards the back of a desolate plaza to a seemingly hidden cafe. I was wondering why they fell under the cocktail category as well! Coffee shop by day, speakeasy by night. Intriguing and I guess the barista in the morning likened them to the Blind Barber. Their coffee menu is rather small though, so there's not much focus there. I guess their cocktail operations are keeping them afloat. The theme and vibe for their nighttime speakeasy certainly does look super cool. As for my coffee, I found it to be quite enjoyable. It was a $2 drip of a single origin Guatemalan (I believe), which was very sweet and somewhat fruity. Good choice and coffee-minded people they are.
