I did not look at the Yelp reviews for this Sonic before stopping in - I wish I had... I went inside to order. There was no one manning the counter. I waited almost 10 minutes. Then I noticed a red tray on the counter - with something bright yellow partially sticking out from beneath the tray. I moved the tray and found a yellow bell with a sign to ring it. So I did. Someone came out in a couple of minutes. I ordered a 6 inch Chili/Cheese Dog - and a bottle of water. Except - they are out of bottled water. So I went with just the Chili Dog. I went to pay with Apple Pay and was told we don't accept Apple Pay - you have to use the Sonic App. They must be one of the few business in Northern Virginia that does not accept contactless payments. They make you do it in their own app. So I paid cash. The cashier had to go in the back to make change. While I was waiting - I walked around the near vacant dining area. There was one person in the dining area. While waiting, I noted a large flat panel screen HDTV mounted on the all - but not on - with a dangling cable not plugged in to anything. Everything is dirty and needs a deep cleaning. Looking up to the ceiling - the HVAC vents are disgusting and need to be cleaned. A few minutes later - my order was ready. I decided to eat in as I did not want to spill chili on myself in the car. I shouldn't have worried about that though - when I opened my order - the amount of chili and cheese on the Dog - was the smallest quantity I have ever seen. It looked as if they had taken a butter knife and scraped the smallest amount possible of chili and drizzled the least amount of cheese across the Hot Dog. I have waited for a sonic to come to my 'area' for years and when the one in Manassas, VA arrived, I was thrilled. Sadly I have had one bad experience after another here. Sometimes it ws the food --- poor taste, stale or not warm. Other times it was the order being wrong all together. And when I attempted to get things corrected, the employees were rude and disrespectful. I often use the stall to order or do a call ahead order and then use the stall - or drive thru. The most recent stall order was a call ahead with an order consisting of mozzarella sticks, cold brew coffee vanilla, footlong coney no chili and orange soda. The mozzarella sticks were HARD and some had no mozzarella in them. The cold brew coffee did not have vanilla in it at all and the footlong came with EXTRA chili! The lady who came out with my order didn't say anything, no hi or any exchange of any kind and then stood there waiting for a tip. I tipped anyway and then went in to address my concerns, only to be met with a rude teenage worker. The tables were dirty and some of the lightbulbs were out, making it difficult to see inside the restaurant in certain areas. So disappointing. read more

I visited this store around December 17th I ordered a footlong Cindy hotdog with chili, cheese, onions and jalapeños, I was truly disgusted with what I received, the footlong was shriveled up and the chili was no where to be found. The attendant said she'd give me a side of chili. It was inside of a container that holds ketchup. Pictures attached. Service was horrific I waited for 15 minutes before anyone d came to the counter. There should definitely be some customer service training provided there. No of the 3 different workers ever put a smile on their face. I really want to like this Sonic because it's close and usually quick, but I'm frustrated that they don't honor the half-price drinks through the app like other locations do. The whole point of ordering through the app (for me, anyway) is getting that discount--I mean, who doesn't want a half-price Cherry Limeade on a hot day? Other Sonics have no issue applying the deal automatically, but here it's full price and no real explanation from the staff. It might seem like a small thing, but it adds up--and honestly, it just feels off when the app says one thing and the location does another. Zero stars. MANAGER what are you doing? This place is on a rocket ship to absolute failure. I love Sonic, but this location is disgusting and awful. It's a slap in the face to Sonic as a business. Forever sticky floors. Every. Time. This was my last time ever going there. Ordered just 3 drinks from the park bay. Hit the red button. At some point I was told to wait. 20 minutes later it timed out, so I hit it again. She says sorry and takes my order. I'm just ordering drinks. 20 minutes later I get out of my car and go in. There's a lady waiting who said she rang the bell and nobody came. She hasn't seen anyone for 15 minutes so she said I can go ahead and she left. A customer then walked in the back to see what the hold up was for their drinks. He said they only have 5 workers. I thought 5?!?! That's enough. I finally saw a staff from sonic and told her about my order and she gasped because she forgot twice already. Makes my drinks in 2 minutes and brings them to the counter. I easily see a gnat in one right away and ask for a new one. Let me tell you. The amount of syrupy sour mix they put in was diabetes in a cup. This place sucks. Do not go here. One of my favorite burger spots. They have a variety of options from burgers, to hot dogs, to various french fries, to drinks. You truly cannot go wrong with finding something you may like here. Now this is not your traditional drive thru fast food joint. There are multiple bays and you are able to pull your car into one, where you are able to look at the menu from your car, and then when you are ready you can also order from your car. When your food is ready, someone will bring out your food and drinks to you. From there you can eat in your car or take home the food to eat. There is no inside seating. read more

I was in the area getting hair done hubby called me to pick up dbl cheeseburger & crispy chicken sandwich with lemonade so thrpugh the drive thru I went. To my dismay, although only 3 cars ahead of me but the waiting felt like eternity-sooooo slow. When I finally got to the part where you pay & pickup food, the manager told me they were extremely busy and apologized. Problem was also the intercom was very low I'd had to repeat my orders a few times. In hindsight, I should have driven directly and skip the ordering area and just give my order in the pickup area, since I again waited. Verdict on food taste still to come, will update later. But I heard good things, so... I have yet to taste the burger I ordered for me, waiting on hubby to come home, so I hope it was worth the wait. Every now and then I would have a random craving for Sonic. At the time, I had a T-Mobile Tuesday promotion for a free vanilla cone. We also added Ched 'R' Peppers and a Blue Raspberry Slush. I didn't expect them to make the ice cream so full; it was amazing! The breaded jalapeño peppers filled with cheese were a nice combination, but I wish it was spicy. The slush hits the spot as always! It was busy so the wait was understandable. The staff were constantly moving around when we walked in to pick up our order. This place is a joke. Don't expect to ever get your food in a reasonable amount of time if you use the app. Last visit I ordered 2 limeades and a fountain drink. Parked in a stall, screen was broken but there wasn't a sign saying don't use and I knew it was stall 1 so I checked in. 10 minutes past the estimated wait time (off-peak btw, like 4 cars in total), nothing. Call button didn't work. So I go to the drive though and explain that I was in a stall and waited for a total of 15 minutes since ordering and was met with the rudest, most disrespectful staff ever. She goes on to tell me how half her staff didn't show up and now it's my fault because I left the stall and her poor staff may be out there wandering around not being able to find me. For the second delivery order in a row, I did not get a drink I ordered. The first time, the person I spoke with insisted the delivery driver stole it and she hung up on me twice. This time I was told I have to go pick up the drink. Uber offered to reimburse me 3.60 for a 4.75 drink. This was my family's first time trying a Sonic and so the cashier was very patient with us and even told us some fan-favorites and his personal favorites. Between the three of us the total came out to about $45. Maybe they have an app with deals that would decrease the price significantly, but we could have eaten at a legitimate restaurant for $50. We ordered: 2 burgers, popcorn chicken, a strawberry milkshake, a chocolate milkshake, a soft pretzel, fries and tots. Everything was decent. No complaints and of course the food came out very quickly. Nothing stood out that gave it an edge over any other fast food place. Nobody is on roller-skates, and the entire staff is rude and lazy and just wants to go home from their shifts and they are always mad and stressed out whenever somebody places an order and it always takes about an hour for it to be made because the employees are always on their phones and talking to each other and they always mess up my order and they all taste disgusting. And besides, the surrounding area is no longer safe anymore so I will not be returning to this location anytime soon. All the guys at work kept telling me "You've never been to SONIC?! You've gotta try SONIC!! I can't believe you haven't gone!" So, one of the guys decided he'd go pick it up for us...... I got the Footlong Quarter Pound Coney hotdog with ketchup, mustard, and onion rings.. To drink I got the Ocean Water, because it was hyped up and widely talked about by my co-workers... The onion rings were just "meh" and kind of burnt and soggy at the same time. The ocean water was literally just blue food coloring, a hint of flavoring (of what I couldn't tell you), and some fancy nugget ice. Nothing special at all. The coney dog was the only "half-way to greatness" part of the meal. It tasted like your average gas-station high-fat content hot dog from 7-11 just in an enlarged format... It was super long and tasted good... not amazing or great, but it was good. It was a decent hot dog. As a first-time customer, I can't say that I was wildly impressed or amazed. This particular location of Sonic is becoming my favorite in the area! Just like any other Sonic locations, this place offers burgers, hot dogs, sandwiches, breakfast items, combos, kids meals, and shakes/limeades/slushes. I find that the employees here are always so cheerful, helpful, and are always checking-in to make sure that everything is satisfactory. Have an inaccurate or a missing item? The staff here takes turn in rotating throughout the drive-in and the parking lot to make sure that the customers are taken care of. I always order either the Cherry or the Cranberry Limeade, and the drinks have always been super fizzy and arrive fast! Depending on where you are coming from, turning in and out of the lot can be a little tricky, with the oncoming traffic. My friend and I were in the Manassas area and we were looking for a quick lunch. We decided on Sonic since there isn't any in the Fairfax/Falls Church area. We originally wanted to eat at the drive-in, but all 6 spaces were full. The drive through wasn't that long and there were plenty of spaces to park at afterwards so it's like the drive-in spaces...without the full menu and service lol. We ordered a Sonic Cheeseburger, Chili Cheese Coney, Tots, and Strawberry milkshake. We asked for forks and were informed that they came with the Chili Cheese Coney...ended up having no forks in the bag, so make sure to double check before driving off! Overall, there was nothing outstanding about any of the items in our order although it was a decent meal. The burger was okay and it tasted better than McDonalds. The Chili Cheese Coney was okay. The tots were nice and crispy. The strawberry milkshake was better than Burger King's although the whipped cream was sweet, sweeter than Starbucks even. However the deign of the milkshake cup wasn't good. The top can't be tightly secured hitch rumored in it popping off and making a little mess when we picked it up. read more

Seriously, I don't understand what people's problem is when it comes to this place. This is a fast food place, they expect a fine restaurant experience. The wait is long, but I've seen a 2 hour wait while people are crying over 15 minutes! My experience has been what it was at other Sonics. GREAT. I make my order clear and I actually read the menu before I order at places. In this situation, I am not going to get upset and complicate the person on the mike. I'm happy to get my Cherry Limeade, Ocean Water, or whatever. They know what to do, so just chill and help them get their items in order. The menu is humongous, you should hear people lolligag as they talk to the person taking the order. Just freaking order and get moving. Some items that I love: - The drinks ( I wish they carried the malts here, but why give people more stuff to complain about?) - the grilled chicken sandwich is terrific - the French Toast sticks - OMGGGGG - the ice cream items are always good If you decide to try this place out, don't roll in thinking you have to get somewhere. Placed an order on the app to pick up on the way to an event. When I arrived to pick up my order were no slots to park. Went inside to pick up my order that I placed to find a crowded dining room of people waiting. Took over 35 minutes to receive my order that was not complete nor did I have time to go back in and deal with the issue. Food was cold. The drive thru seemed to be moving. We've had our hopes up that this location would improve their customer service; however, it appears the service remains subpar, at best. We would like to see adequate staffing and new management in there that can correct the issues. Today we pulled into carport #6, pressed the button twice for service, waited for approx 5-10 mins without a response before deciding to walk in to place our order, in an effort to not waste any more time. The exterior appearance of the building, with the exception of the landscaping, was extremely off-putting - dirty and littered parking area and sidewalk, filthy front doors, and a sewage/dirty grease trap odor wafting that could be smelled from the gated off area at the end of the building all the way up to the front door). Upon entering the building at approx 1:50p, we noticed 7 people standing around the front counter waiting for orders. We waited at the counter to place our order for another significant period of time. So much so that we contemplated hopping in the drive thru before Carhop, "Leonardo", appeared from the back to take our order. At this point, Leonardo appeared to be a little frazzled as he took our order. I speculate this was due to viewing him handling several duties (carhopping, cashiering, and running orders from the back to the front counter). While we waited for our order, we could hear loud and inappropriate conversations between two females in the back, to include negative comments being made about another co-worker, "Nancy". Approx 7 minutes later, Leonardo brought our order out from the back on a carhop tray. It didn't appear to be ours as there was an additional drink. When my husband asked, "Are you sure this is the correct order?" Leonardo responded while shaking his head, "I DON'T KNOW MAN, I JUST BRING THE ORDERS." I double checked the receipt on the tray to be sure we were not charged for an additional drink, and my husband checked the bag for the correct items. All was well on both accounts. The food and drinks were acceptable. While we understand everyone has bad days and acknowledge that food service is a challenging industry, there is no excuse for poor service. The service was absolutely unacceptable. No customer in a fast-food establishment should have this wait time to place an order, especially during non-peak hours, nor have to deal with a service member's attitude. We are thinking this service experience is due to a combination of poor staffing and management. We would challenge the franchise owner of this location to do better with their staffing and cleanliness. Due to the consistent poor experiences and other customer reviews with similar experiences at this location, we will be submitting a complaint to Sonic Drive In HQ & Corp. I have been to many Sonic locations, nearly all of them a pleasure to visit. This particular one was a disappointing experience, which was not helped by their clunky/poorly-designed mobile app. Came here recently with a few friends after hanging out. Their dining room was closed, and for some reason they lack a walk-up window or curbside pickup (unless you are in a numbered stall), so we had to stand in one of the parking spaces to get our order. It took over 30 minutes for us to receive our items, and my order was incorrect. The employee bringing the food out seemed to be the only one running around, so no fault to her for our poor experience; I appreciated her hard work. I can certainly understand short-staffing causing delays, but that doesn't excuse messing up an order as badly as mine was. When I reported my experience to Sonic, they were appropriately apologetic and claimed they sent me an app freebie as a way of making up for it. That was a week ago and there's still nothing in the app. When I logged out and logged back in, I got a series of errors and now can't even see the normal app deals and offers. If one of my friends really wanted to go back to Sonic, I would probably grudgingly join them, though I will no longer seek out locations myself after this double-trouble experience. It's a little late in the restaurant game to still be messing up orders and having unstable apps. That's more of a '00s thing. Welcome to the roaring '20s. Overall: 1.0 star ---- Pros: - The hardworking employee who brought everyone their food has my respect for her commitment to getting things done. None of this was her fault. Cons: - The prep side messed up my order pretty badly, not sure what screen they were reading when they put this together. - This location is not like other Sonics: very few ordering bays, no walk-up window, and just generally not well-designed. - Mobile apps don't have to be masterpieces but they do have to work. If your app constantly crashes, declines to permit ordering of common items that are confirmed to be available, and fails to update offers, you may need a new dev team. read more

This location is possibly the slowest and least responsive Sonic have been to. Every time I have been there every stall is full, the drive-thru is at least 6 cars deep, and counter service is non-existent. Half the time when I have gotten my order at least one item has been wrong. I always order on the app so there is no mistake in what I order. The drive-thru overhang has been damaged for several months with bits of it sitting in the drive through lane. If there was another location nearby or another restaurant that served something similar I would never return. read more

I've never been to a Sonic and based on the commercials I had high expectations. My bf and I pulled up to the ordering window. A lot of the specials and things I've seen on the commercials wasn't displayed so I just ordered a basic meal. As we were waiting for the food the screens changed and all the cool options were displayed. To say I was disappointed was an understatement. My wife went to Sonic Manassas on 5/19. The customer service was terrible. No one was working the front counter causing people to leave without ordering. And she was unable to order a Sonic Blast for whatever reason. The drive in parking spots had signs directing the customer to come inside where every table was dirty and the floors were so sticky it was grabbing their shoes. I went there on 5/20, again the customer service was terrible. No one answered the drive through so I pulled to the window where I was told the ice cream machines were being cleaned and they were out of chicken tenders. Meanwhile, no one in the back is working. They are all standing around goofing off. If I owned this restaurant I would be upset with the way it was being run. I don't think we will be coming back for a while.
