We were too focused on the answers and kept going back in the rooms and replaying audio. For what? Well, we walked out right before the coolest part of the experience since the rooms get stuffy and there's a line for that last one. If you don't want to participate in the experience, they have an ample cafe where you can enjoy cheese and other goodies, of course. In the end, the rooms are too packed and they get stuffy. Kids are being kids! They run around looking for the fun questions they have to find answers to and collect stamps (laps part of the questions sheet) for.

I wasn't initially planning to visit Our House, but I had an unexpected extra day to explore. Purchasing a last minute ticket online was not an issue. Visitors had an hour to freely explore the museum. There was a bar near the dance floor and drinks were allowed to be taken into the different exhibits. The first half of the museum focused on the history, culture, and evolution of House music. The intro video was really interesting. I didn't realize that House music got its start in the underground clubs of Chicago and Detroit in the 80s. They had interactive activities with sound boards, drum machines, turntables, etc. You could also listen to an array of DJs on multiple headsets and take photos with replicas of the Daft Punk and Marshmello helmets. At the end of the hour, they had everyone come back to the dance floor to watch a 15 minute video. It felt like a rave with the vibrating floor, lights, and fog. The emcee was trying to hype us up, but I think everyone was pretty chill because it was a Wednesday evening. I like House music and thought the museum was fun, but it wasn't necessarily a must see. Unfortunately the museum has permanently closed so I am glad I had the opportunity to visit when I did.

They also have cool items on display such as Timmy Trumpet's trumpet, Marshmello and deadmau5 masks, and Avicii's keyboard (although fairly sure some of these were replicas). Fun little dance party on the dance floor at the end! It's a little silly but our group came here right after spending a weekend at Tomorrowland, so it had us missing the fest! Overall, a cool little experience if you're into EDM and happen to be in Amsterdam. I probably wouldn't go out of my way just to come here though.

Psalms 91:1-2 Corrie ten Boom and her family believed that God was their refuge and their faith propelled them to shield those facing Nazi persecution during World War II. They risked their lives to hide Jews, students refusing to cooperate with their oppressors, and members of the Dutch underground resistance movement. It is estimated that 200-300 people sought refuge under their roof. As described in Corrie's book "The Hiding Place", the ten Boom family built a false wall in her bedroom that created an approximately 3 by 8 foot secret room where those being hunted could hide during a Gestapo raid. On February 28, 1944, four Jews and two members of the Resistance hid there for two and half days without food or water. All of them avoided detection, but six members of Corrie's family were arrested and sent to prison. Although Corrie was sentenced to the Ravensbruck concentration camp, she was inexplicably released nearly a year later. Following the end of the war, Corrie visited 64 countries, over the course of 32 years, spreading the message of God's love and proclaiming that Jesus Christ is victorious over all and everything, even the misery of a concentration camp. Reservations are required, admission is free, no photography inside the home is permitted, and navigating a narrow series of stairs is required. Part presentation of the ten Boom home and part presentation of the Gospel message, the orientation takes place in the living room that hosted a Bible Study for 100 years until the family was arrested in 1944. During our visit an interesting group dynamic emerged. Near the end of the tour someone felt inspired to publicly tell a German tour member that she was accepted and that the group did not view her as being a Nazi. A must do if visiting Amsterdam…read more ***If you plan to go, you must order tickets ahead of time. Based on where you live, you will have to make sure you purchase tickets immediately as the "window" opens for the day/time that you want to go. I had to wake up at 1am west coast time to make sure I got my tickets before they sell out. Tickets are available EXACTLY 6 weeks at 10am Amsterdam time for the day/time you want. Plan ahead! There are two tickets, one for the general tour and one that adds a presentation before the self guided tour. If you can get it, I recommend getting tickets for the presentation. It's a good intro before doing the self guided tour. But if you can't get these tickets, the general self guided tour is fine and well done. For the self guided tour you get a translator (many languages available) to guide you through the tour. You point the translator at the small round numbered placard in the wall to trigger the translator for the room/exhibit. There is a lot of walking, stairs, and standing around so be prepared. Plan for about 1.5-2 hours to do the while tour. There also a gift shop and cafe at the end of the tour. The exhibit/museum itself is very well done. It's an informative and moving experience. Be respectful as it is a memorial. Highly recommend visiting. Be prepared and plan ahead when ordering tickets online 6 weeks ahead.

Standing in the same room where she wrote so much of her diary brought tears to my eyes. There were also other areas that had testimonies from various people and it really brought things to life for me. IMPORTANT: You need to reserve/buy tickets online well before you go. I don't think you can just walk up and buy. We woke up at in the middle of the night (our time in the U.S.) to buy tickets when it opened online in Amsterdam. You don't have to HAVE to see the presentation to explore the house/museum because everyone gets an audio device (which was well done), but I found it interesting and the presentation and presenter helped to answer some questions I had. You're not allowed to take photos inside the actual house because it's a memorial, but that was okay with me since the focus was more concentrated on taking everything in. Online it says no backpacks or large bags because there are no lockers/storage, so we left our backpacks at our hotel. But they actually did have an area for people to check backpacks/bags. So if you can't avoid having a backpack when you go, you can get it checked and stored. I'm so glad we went and now have a true visual for things when reading her diary.

Or at least that's what I understood about why he is so important. They have some cheesy displays here, like grocery store brand pepper and other spices sitting on a table in front of an old fashioned map to illustrate how important the spice trade was back in the day. You can see they're really trying at least, even though their display designs show a distinct lack of imagination. It's good for killing an hour if you're ever in the neighborhood. And if you're Czech, and therefore are interested in this Dutch-famous Czech person.
