We've always loved Sonny's BBQ, but unfortunately, this recent experience left us incredibly disappointed. After being seated, we waited over 20 minutes without anyone coming over to greet us, take a drink order, or even acknowledge us. Multiple servers walked past our table--some even looked directly at us--but not one stopped to ask if we had been helped. It was clear we had been completely overlooked, and the lack of attentiveness was frustrating and frankly, unacceptable. We ended up leaving without ever being served. It's really sad because we typically enjoy dining at Sonny's, but this level of poor customer service makes us think twice about coming back. read more

My husband and I just finished playing golf and decided to call ahead and order the family meal or feast for four for pickup. A lovely girl named Nakita answered the phone and took our order. Such a pleasant and accommodating person! She was even more lovely and sweet in person. Our order was ready and the food was great! We had taken a break from this Sonny's for awhile due to poor previous experiences. They were pretty busy but we were seated right away. Our server was pretty good. Sweet tea is weak and watered down. My pulled pork sandwich had more meat than my friend's pulled pork dinner. Meat wasn't great and slathered in sauce. Nothing else stood out. My friend's pulled pork already had sauce on it and honestly it looked like they had gotten someone else's sandwich minus the bread. Had a fry in their pork and green beans in their mac n cheese. Restaurant was also pretty dirty, and no one had cleaned up the floors in awhile. Very disappointing, will stick to Oakwood. Two stars for service. read more

I want to love them, after all, they're Sonny's. Unfortunately this one is hit and miss. We always place our order online for takeout. I always ask for extra crispy fries, and they just can't get it right. In fact, for the past month my husband and I agree that they are barely even cooked, yuck! Why have a spot for special requests when you are placing your order if they are just going to ignore it? The hubby always gets the Sonny's Sampler. As mentioned before, he has the same issue with his fries. He always asks for sliced pork and brisket, dark chicken and sweet and smoky ribs. Again, for the past month they will mess up sometimes and give him pulled pork or pulled brisket. And as for the ribs, there has been hardly any meat on them. What's up with that for a BBQ place? Sonny's, I know you can do better than this. I'm not sure if you have had a change in staff recently or some other issue. But, we have always loved you and will return in a few weeks, and hopefully by then you will have everything worked out. The manger I ended up speaking with was not the one on duty when we walked in. While he was apologetic it changes nothing. We arrived at 3:15 p.m., were greeted, and seated promptly. Took all of 5 minutes. It's a complete ghost town. I could see one 6 top, and one 2 top. 3 or 4 employees roaming. 10 mins, no-one had come over. 20 mins, still no one. After 30 minutes, we began making our way towards the front door when the young woman who took us to our seats says, "Buy Friends!" And something to the effect of, "Hope you enjoyed your meal. Have a happy holiday?" My wife responded, "We've been sitting back there for over 30 minutes.", and we continued out the door. After my wife and I talked, I decided to speak to a manager. I walked back into the dining room. Nobody is at the podium. I go to the bar where a female server was standing, and asked to speak with a manger. She replied, "Ok. One second." She didn't ask what the issue was, she just replied, "Ok. One second.", and walked into what I assumed was the kitchen. Hearing her speak, I shifted towards the opening and caught, "...the customers who just left want to speak to a manager." Justin, then replies, "What's it about?" She replies, "The table that was sitting in the back that no one wanted to wait on, they want to speak to a manager." VERBATIM! Justin comes out, does his apology thing of offering free food/comps (which we declined), and "writing my name in his book" for a "future" visit that will never take place. Here's the thing, the only way this plays out, is to call all of us liars. Why would you not want to wait on a table, when that is precisely what you were hired to do? We were not loud. We do not smell, nor were we unkempt (and even if we were, so what?) We were not being rude. We did not have the opportunity to be or do ANYTHING, but an entire store? decided that on sight they did not want to wait on us? Our party make up...White male, black female, our four biracial children (two being 6 and 4; who never made a sound the entire time we were there because they know how to behave, and Duggee plays on repeat on their devices) and a Hispanic female. But THEY decided, for whatever reason, that they did not want to wait on us? And then she goes to the MANAGER and verbalizes that NOBODY wanted to wait on us? Flippantly using the word "never" is not something we do, but understand this, we, as a family, (former cook of 15 years, and a server who lived off of tips and believes 20% is the bare minimum, and bordering insulting) we will never set foot in that place again! NEVER! Our measly $200, and 30%, that went to a very pleasant human being at Olive Garden who did not just do a job, but had enough self respect to understand that you do not treat other human beings like trash. Whatever manufactured reason you guys utilized to justify treating us, and anyone else the way we were treated, I hope it was worth it, and I wish all of you nothing less than the karma you all deserve. The staff on duty during our visit was non existent. Evidently they avoided us, and didn't want to wait on our table, in a ghost town of a restaurant. The entire time we were there, more than 30 minutes, we were ignored. No drinks, nothing. Even when servers walked past our table, none acknowledged us. We ended up walking out, and going to Olive Garden. We won't be back. I wouldn't recommend going there. See the other reviews. It is very clear that they pick and choose who they wait on. I've always been a fan of Sonny's and am happy there is one so close to home. This location was recently remodeled and is very updated and clean. There's a nice waiting area, separate take out counter and a drive-thru. Service was good, except there was a gap while waiting for the check. Food was good and ready quickly. They have huge glasses and Coke Zero! This will be my go-to for BBQ cravings. read more

We visited Sonny's late afternoon for my husband's birthday, anticipating a quiet meal. Only a couple of people were in the restaurant, and we asked to be seated in the back. It was fine at first, but then a family with about four small children came in, and they seated them right behind us when there was another table away from ours. Then, I found two hairs in my food, which made me nauseous. I brought it to the manager's attention because if someone is appropriately wearing a hair net, there should be no problem. It made me wonder about the cleanliness of the kitchen. She took care of our meal to the manager's credit, but we will not return to this restaurant. read more

I'm giving this location 5 stars because of the amazing server Juan. He was the BEST waiter I have ever had and I have been all over the US. He was so attentive and went above and beyond for our service. Juan deserves a raise, we usually go to Sonnys about once a month but we will be back more often because Juan made it such a great experience. Highly recommend asking for him as a waiter. The second WORST BBQ meal ever! I ordered thru the drive thru. I had a Chopped Beef Brisket Big Deal. My husband ordered the 1/2 Smoked Chicken Meal. My Beef Brisket was 99% fat! Not an exaggeration. I think that there was one piece of fat that might have had a thin slice of meat on it!! I will NEVER order Beef Brisket again, (from anywhere). I luckily saw the "fat sandwich" when I went to put the sauce on. Otherwise I would be in the hospital right now! By the way, the only BBQ that was worst was chicken cooked too quickly by my brother in law when I was kid that gave us Salmonella. I will give serious thought about going back. Sonny's food is okay. This Eustis location really is struggling with management. This last issue or online order was 45 min late, good was cold and incomplete. The visit prior we walked in and ended up leaving to go to oakwood ( across the street) because the hostess couldn't figure out how to stay people. ( Plenty of open tables). Oakwood has better bbq ( more consistent) and a much, much better run operation. We order delivery from Sonny's and they simply cancelled it because they were busy. Want good BBQ and a will run restaurant, go to Oakwood. If you like to gamble go to Sonny's. Might be good and you might get served. read more

Bought family meal numerous times. Sadly very disappointed Tuesday, corn was burned so got Mac n cheese instead. That was not the problem, the ribs were burnt probably as bad as the corn they threw out. Could have used the meat to patch a hole in your shoes. Unable to chew the ribs besides being burnt beyond recognition, the taste was worse than charred. I just had the worst BBQ sandwich ever. Thom McAnn would even be ashamed. After waiting almost 20 minutes in their drive thru I ordered a rib sandwich expecting some fatty pork meat. Instead it was the toughest, dryest cut of meat ever. I gave most of it to the dog and even he laid down to eat it. They should rename it a jerky sandwich but I've had tastier jerky. I could see the inside of the joint and it was strewn with debris on the floor. Never again! read more

It's hard to rate this. Not necessarily disappointing but certainly not worth a special return trip. You get a lot of food for a decent price and it's not bad, but it's just not what I've come to expect from a good barbecue place. I had the sliced pork and it was served at nearly room temperature and was remarkably bland. I had to slather it in their equally mediocre sauce to get any taste out of it. The baked potato was served with a tube of sour cream and a container of cheap imitation butter. Forgive me for expecting them to dress it a little. Cole slaw wasn't bad but most grocery store delis can do better. A pig poor lunch experience. I am usually a big fan of Sonny's but over the years I have learned that all locations are not necessarily up to the high expectations. The parking lot was full and that is usually a good sign of good food but after my lunch experience I wonder how many other people went away disappointed too. My sliced pork sandwich on garlic bread failed on the pork and the garlic bread. The pork was horribly dry and tough. No amount of bbq sauce could even begin to restore any moisture and the pork completely lacked any hint of smoke. Are they just cooking pork roasts in the oven? The garlic bread was a soggy slice of bread soaked in butter with a slight garlic seasoning. In a way it was a good thing the bread was so soggy to compensate a little for the dry pork. Thank goodness for good service and sweet iced tea or lunch would have been an epic failure. read more

Tonight was the first time my husband and I have had Sonny's since the pandemic began. I ordered online for curbside pickup. When I arrived and called as directed, the phone was answered on the second ring. Casey was pleasant and brought my order to me literally within a minute. I have called three different times to order takeout. First time was on hold for 20 minutes Then my order was wrong when I got there. Second time, on hold again for 15 minutes. They hung up, called back and was on hold again for 10 minutes. The order was wrong again and waited another 10 minutes to fix. The last time, again, calling in a takeout order. On hold for 15 minutes. Then someone picked up the phone and hung up. Called back and was put on hold again for 10 minutes, someone hung the phone up again. Will never call this Sonnys again or go there to eat there BBQ. Our server was attentive and the restaurant is clean and recently renovated. But the food was not great. Pulled pork totally over cooked to the point that it was mush. My son's Mac n cheese was ok because he's a kid and doesn't really care but it was dry.
