I paid $13,000 - for 8 trees and Derek had to be the most unfriendly, disrespectful and rude businessman I have ever met! The purpose of the tree removal was 2-fold. It was for safety around the home and also to provide LOTS of firewood! He knew this. He never introduced himself - I had to ask who was Derek when I went out to greet all the guys that showed up. Even once he raised his hand he still did not come over to me. I had to go to him and extend my hand to introduce myself. We had not met as this is my daughter & son-in-law's home. I came up from Virginia for this as I was the payor of the services, which he also knew. Derek started cutting the trees as we (my son in law & I were home) expected, including limbs of good size. Then things changed and we saw a number of pieces going into the chipper (easy for them as all they had to do with that was shoot them into the woods). I went out a total of 4 times to ask him to NOT chip those bigger limbs as they were such great pieces of firewood and even asked if they could just cut to pile or leave in on the ground by the tree. His answer repeatedly?: "IF IT FITS IN THE CHIPPER IT GOES IN THE CHIPPER!" Let me reiterate I was paying him $13,000!! I cannot begin to tell you how infuriating he was and what a great disappointment due the amount of firewood we lost due to his lack of giving a damn what the customer wanted. Of the 10 trees planted, 7 died and the others suffered from a severe case of failure to thrive. We did not contact the owner, Andrew, immediately as the trees went one by one right down the line, and we kept thinking we were somehow at fault. When we did contact the company, we were well aware that the project was over a season old and did not expect a "free" replanting. The spot the trees were placed had a lot of roots and we were nervous from the start, but Andrew had assured us the trees would do fine. So, when they clearly did NOT, what we wanted going forward was an understanding of what went wrong so we could decide if we wanted to invest in new trees to be planted either by York Landscaping, or another company. A representative of YRL came and took a look and told us that the "trees were planted incorrectly" and yes, of course they would work with us and replant at a discount. What we hoped for was to feel secure about spending additional money and after this conversation, being told the trees could, and would thrive, if planted correctly, we agreed to move forward. What followed was not nice new trees but weeks of frustration with unreturned phone calls, texts, and emails, and 2 price increases. Sometime later we were told that YRL actually would take no responsibility at all and that we must have overwatered the trees, there had been a drought that year so everyone's trees died, the trees had increased in price, that the job was too old, and finally, that the trees were completely unavailable. We got the message. Not only were we not getting the job redone at a discount, but we also weren't getting the job done even if we spent more money than the original project. We eventually contracted with another local landscaper, Corey Reynolds, of Reynolds and Sons Landscaping, who planted 10 arborvitaes for less money than our original job with YRL. Corey guaranteed his work and assured us that the trees would thrive. And they are! Corey was pleasant to work with, professional, knowledgeable, true to his word, fair, and honest. I cannot say the same for York River Landscaping. If you wish to be disappointed, frustrated, and jerked around, give them a call. We tried to be fair, and we would never have expected even a small discount if we had not been told the job was poorly done. It is less about the money and more about what an incredibly unprofessional company York River Landscaping is. Use them at your peril. Crappy work and a litany of poor business practices.

It was amazing to watch how they worked so well together to safely and quickly remove the tree. They brought in the crane and we didn't have to move anything out of the way. They chipped and hauled it away all in the time frame it said it would take. My favorite part was their Supervisor- an amazing golden retriever! Everything is better with dogs :).

York RTS is seriously great! Our new home came with a "mature garden" that was in desperate need…read moreof care and trimming. We also have many trees on the property that needed trimming and a safety check. York RTS did a walk-through of the property and provided a safety assessment for all the trees on our property. They also removed a few smaller trees that were impeding the growth of other things planted nearby. Seeing the volume of help we needed, York RTS was able to prioritize work that should be done sooner vs later, so we now have a long-term plan for the care of trees and hedges on the property, within our budget. More importantly, York RTS was very creative in problem solving. Seeing the scale of our garden & understanding the amount of work needed to keep it going, they proposed the removal of a row of unwieldy hedges out front and expanded our lawn in its place. It's one less thing that needs trimming & managing and our front lawn is large & beautiful now. We really appreciate their effort to improve our curb appeal and reduce our weekend chores!
