I enjoyed the food here - had hanpan grill platter which was an interesting experience. Not sure I was so jazzed about the cheese but the pork belly was great! Only thing I didn't like was the notice in the bathroom about putting toilet paper in the bin and not the toilet. That's gross. read more

I've typically had really good experiences at Sooda, but unfortunately, I struggled to find the highlights during my visit today. ​I was seated in the upstairs area, and it felt like a completely different world from the usual service downstairs. While I understand it was a busy shift, the upstairs patrons--myself included--felt largely neglected. The wait times were excessive across the board, culminating in waiting upwards of 45 minutes just to get the bill. ​It's disappointing because I know how good this place can be, but today the service just wasn't there. If you're planning a visit and want a better experience, I'd highly recommend specifically asking to be seated downstairs or waiting for a table on the main floor. read more

We've visited Sooda multiple times and it always hits the spot. I highly recommend bringing friends and/or family, as most of their menu items are meant to be shared. Our usual orders are: Sooda Platter (meat, cheese, corn, egg, green onion, Rice) that's grilled right in front of you and the Sooda Box (torched Korean steak on top of rice). Super cute restaurant with bench seating on one side and then chairs around the table. Service was quick, but keep in mind when it's busy they cannot split the bill more than 2 ways. Serving sizes were huuuge, and it was cool because the platter comes out in a super hot tray. The kimchi rice was made with whatever was left over on the platter which our server shaped like a heart. The potato thing was super delicious as well, kind of like a hash brown with fancy toppings. The pricing is really reasonable and we went as a group of 5 and it was the perfect amount for all of us. Let's just start with this...the staff was so kind and attentive. They explained the menu and offered great suggestions for our group of seven. The ambience was sweet. We got there around 7pm and it only got busy as we were leaving. The music wasn't too loud and you are able to have conversations with whoever you are with. We had lunch here today and it was sensational. The best Korean food I think I've ever had. Starting with the complimentary pickled radish and chili cabbage. We had a Sooda box with honey garlic, melted in your mouth and so tasty. We also shared a Sooda special with pork belly as the protein. Food was quite decent. The Sooda pan was quite unique. We ordered both the bulgogi and the Jeyook (spicy pork). We did add the kimchi fried rice kit. It was a fun interactive way of eating, along with the cheese and corn in the pan. We ordered the soodubu big pot vs a personalized size. The soup was quite flavorable but spicey. Prawns were very fresh. The waitress kindly let us know that once it is fully boiled, we can start (except for dumpling and prawns). Unfortunately there was very little soup so there wasn't any soup to cook the dumplings and prawns. She kindly brought some broth. We ordered SoodaHawk, but got pork rib and mozza. Not really sure if she misheard us or if they are the same dish. Wish we spoke korean. We also orders Soodabox. 1/2 original and 1/2 butter mayo. On the menu, it says you can mix a full order with 2 flavors. Full order $29.99. But we got charged two half orders ($17.50x2). Waitress seems new and training.. so maybe just a language barrier. Not sure if I would order this along with the pan since it was just a lot of rice. The menu was quite confusing with just the drink menu and the cartoon menu. The scan code lead to the website that wasn't too clear of the options. The best was their ordering pad but that was for the staff. Overall really like the place. Located in gastown- street parking. Large space with two floors. Friendly servers and unique dishes. Seafood pancake- has a lot less veggies and seafood than I am used to but enjoyed it as it was extra crispy Sooda special- you get to try all the ingredients separately and then they come and stir fry it together for you Tofu soup was also different as it came with its own heating plate and cooked at the table. Gigantic prawns were super fresh Sooda box sushi displayed beautifully and flavorful. Would definitely be back with a large party to try all the dishes. read more

This was hands down some of the best Korean food I have had. They have toned down the spice and have very little ban chan but that is not a deal breaker. Kimchi is made in house in small batches and actually had heat to it! Most kimchi i have had is not spicy so much as sour. This was both and so delicious! The KFC was wet and I wouldn't say traditional. Typically I would eat with salt and lime slices. These were sticky with a wet sauce. Still tasty but it's not Korean hot. The bulgogi came with cabbage. It was flavorful and the meat wasn't stringy with tendon or fat. Unusual prep but very tasty and beefy. The Tteokbokki was awesome with the fish cake and rice rolls. I wish it was more spicy but flavors spot on. The basic Korean dishes were done very well. Great experience and would highly recommend. read more

This is not your typical Korean barbecue as they make the food for you. But it is beyond delicious. Our server was amazing, gave us great recommendations. The place is super cute. For drinks we started with a Korean spirit flight, which was different flavors and it was so good. We tried the Sooda special and that was delicious and more than enough food for all four of us plus a baby. We also tried the Sooda box and it was beyond delicious. We wanted to get another eight rolls. I also tried Ju Sam which was so spicy. It made me sweat, but it was so delicious. I would definitely recommend coming here as the food is phenomenal. read more

Amazing. The food is good, our Korean BBQ in the US is different from this one but is also good. Although the lady waitress is not friendly at all. She got irritated when I tried to follow her combining the cheese and corn,she snapped at me so I put it down and after a few seconds she said " you can better if you want" and I joked at her and said it's too late you already hurt my feelings and then I said it's a joke and she never came to ask a out our food. It's a roomy restaurant with a pocha-esque vibe and menu, and fun wall art. I believe the top section is also rentable for private events, which is kinda fun. The food itself though was super mediocre. We got the soodabox, the jusam (spicy octopus and pork belly stirfry), and the pork chop soodahawk. The soodabox was okay, it just tasted like beef bulgogi over a rice roll with chipotle mayo, which is fine if you're into it. The jusam was actually pretty good and flavorful, and was slightly spicy. The pork chops were really bad, super dry and way smaller than the photos made them seem. Probably worth coming here if you just wanna get some drinks and snack on food (the melona soju cocktail was decent, but not too alcoholic), but wouldn't recommend coming here if your main goal is to eat. read more

We enjoyed our experience at Sooda which in our minds is Korean food w a twist. The Sooda special was heated over induction which made for bubbly corn cheesu and warm delicious bulgugi. This place is quite fun and has really good food. It is somewhat expensive for what you're getting but at least you'll be full on delicious food. I loved the Sooda rolls. I haven't had anything else like it in Vancouver. The service is not necessarily the friendliest but they are quick. I don't mind it too much as this feels more like a place to eat and enjoy with friends so I'm not too picky about service. The ambiance is fun in there but it can be quite loud. A good place for a hyped night out with friends, less so for intimate gatherings. read more

Sooda is sooooo gooood. The sizzling bulgogi corn kimchi mix is too good for one. The beef tartare is to die for. It's amazing how full you get but still want to eat when you go to Sooda. Was so delighted to have tried this much hyped place. And yes, they did deliver on all points. I hd an amazing time and experience here. Got the sooda beef box and the torched steak tartare with melted cheese. So so good! The steak tartare was awesome. Think of it as beef sushi. Tartare was spread out on rice sushi rolls the top with beef then cheese then torched and seasoned. You can see how good it is on the picture. The sooda box was good for 2-3. Had a bit of everything to give you a full meal Experience. And of course, cant leave without having a beer tower. Lol Again, quality and qty all present. Service is quick and efficient. It's a great place to meet up with friends and share food! Sooda Special Jaeyook Korean Spicy Pork-One of their signature hot plate platters that comes with corn, cheese, spicy pork, egg, green onion & rice. Soo good! The cheese was ooey gooey & mixed well with everything. Sooda Box Butter Mayo-These rolls usually comes in 46cm but we got the half order because it would be too much food. Loved it. The mayo & steak tartar melts in your mouth. Hinokki Chadol-It comes with steamed thin beef brisket slices, prawns, dumplings & assorted veggies. It tasted healthy but my group personally thought it needed more flavour. The sauce they provided tasted like soy sauce & vinegar together and wasn't that flavourful. We came Saturday for dinner. Seemed to be a very exciting venue to eat and was easily able to accommodate party of 6. Waiter was very friendly and helpful for us first timers. Definitely needed the QR code to help us go through the complete menu. They helped us cook our food as we were a bit inept on how long it should cook for. My girlfriend and I were exploring new Korean restaurants in downtown Vancouver; we didn't want any hyped-up, overrated ones, which ultimately led us to Sooda, hidden in Gastown.  As we walked in, we immediately felt the "young" vibe in the interior compared to many traditional or formal Korean restaurants. Neon lights and graffiti on the wall combined with an opened bar really made me feel like I was inside a club!  We ordered the most popular Sooda Box along with a seafood pancake and Sooda fries. The Sooda box really lives up to its popularity; we loved how the meat was very easy to bite through; it feels as if it were melting in our mouths. Rice rolls covered with fatty beef and sauces are known to be greasy, but this one was surprisingly not too overwhelming! The fries also stood out to us; they were topped with bugulgi and lots of sauces, but the portion was too big for fries; it'd be great if they could have it on a small side.  Overall, it was a very new and fun Korean cuisine experience; the vibe and the food itself really deviated from traditional ones! read more

Our dinner at sOOda was SOOO good. It is definitely a different kind of Korean food experience. We ordered the Sooda special marinated beef bulgogi hot plate with cheese, green onions, house made egg-rolls, corn and rice. The table it is placed on is actually an adjustable heat controlled warming table. The heat is only in the middle, so if you want your food cooked more, you will need to move it to the center. The service is on point and hopefully you will get our server John. He even gave us extra complimentary side dishes too. We will definitely come back for more. read more

One of my favorite meals of my life! I'm visiting with my family & this place is casual enough to go to after doing touristy things all day. The server was incredibly nice & patiently explained the menu and brought drink samples despite how busy he was. Two of their boxes easily fed my family of 6 (4 hungry teens!). Very cool vibe - unedited hip hop music at night, so I would only say it's "family friendly" if you're a cool parent and have older teenage kids. Came here during my short, 1-week visit in Vancouver for a work-related meeting. Came in to enjoy the Sooda special and Sooda box. Not to mention, we came in when it was buy one get one cocktails. Win! For two people, this was plenty of food. The bulgogi was so good. Overall, nice and clean place, great service, fair pricing, and good food/drinks. i came here on a sunday evening at 8 pm with a group of 5. we initially tried to go on friday, but when we called around 6:30 they didn't have any available reservations anymore and the wait was estimated to be 1 hour. we called on saturday to book the sunday reservation, and were able to move it from 6:30 to 8 pm a few hours prior to the reservation on sunday. we were seated at a table with 4 chairs and one booth seat. i sat in the booth seat and felt that it was slightly uncomfortable - it wasn't at an ideal height with the table. the interior is very colorful to the point of some sensory overload for me. it was also a little loud, but my group wasn't trying to talk that much so it wasn't an issue for us. for ordering, they have a menu guide with a QR code, but the QR code was very tiny and my iphone wasn't able to scan it, so i just googled the menu. for drinks, we ordered the chestnut makgeolli to share. there were some large chunks of ice inside, which i'm not sure was expected. for food, we ordered the sooda bulgogi. our server said it served 2-3 people, so we thought it would be a good amount if we ordered that + some other dishes to share. we also ordered the tteokbokki, honey butter garlic chicken, and the sooda box (steak tartar). i liked the tteokbokki, but felt that everything else was just okay. the corn to cheese ratio in the sooda bulgogi felt a little off - there was a lot more cheese than corn, sometimes we would eat chunks that were all cheese. i wish the meat came with sauce as i felt that eating the bulgogi was a little dry. i wasn't a big fan of the chicken and could only eat one piece. the tartar was half cooked, which was not what i'd usually expect from tartar so it felt like a different dish. overall, this was a unique dining experience that i'm glad i got to experience, but i'm not sure i would come again. read more
