Good Sniff Spaw - Maya looks like this after the previous grooming session, just for comparison

Groomer completely disregarded my statement towards not cutting my dogs tail. Her hair is long…read moresince she was a puppy and each time a groomer trims it, it becomes curly and mats easily... therefore I have specifically stated I DO NOT want it touched. Besides the complete hack job that was done on the rest of her body, my poor Stella now has a SHELF cut into her tail. I have already spoken with management and they will only give 25$ off my next grooming service with them. I will not be coming back to a place that cannot follow simple instructions with a hair cutting service, if this was the hair on my head and not on my dog I'm 100% certain it would've been handled very differently.

Year-end reflection: a grooming appointment that left my dog injured and traumatized…read more As the year comes to an end, I've been reflecting on Maya's year. It was mostly filled with joy, growth, and happiness -- but it also included one grooming appointment that caused her significant physical injury and lasting emotional trauma. I am writing this in detail so other pet parents can make a truly informed decision. What happened: We booked a mobile grooming session with Good Sniff Spaw in Spring. The appointment lasted about 3 hours, and we paid $289.11 for standard grooming plus add-ons (teeth brushing and anal glands). We were not provided with a clear, itemized invoice at the time. Before the session, we clearly agreed to keep about half the coat length. Instead, Maya's body and legs were shaved very close to the skin, and her face was trimmed into a pointy shape rather than the rounded look we requested. When we saw her afterward, she looked so different that we could barely recognize her. (the first photo shows what Maya looked like after her previous grooming session.) Immediately after grooming, we only took her to the front lawn for a quick potty break. When we came back inside and wiped her paws at the door, we noticed blood traces and severe redness between her paw pads. Over the next several hours, Maya became increasingly distressed -- she kept licking all four paws repeatedly, scratching multiple parts of her body, and was unable to sleep. That same evening, we ordered wound-care supplies (wound spray and protective socks) to prevent infection and worsening injuries. The next day, her condition did not improve, and we had no choice but to take her to the vet. The veterinarian confirmed that the injuries were consistent with fresh clipper abrasions/over-shaving, not a pre-existing condition. The severity of the impact: Maya was prescribed six days of medication to manage pain and inflammation. To put this in perspective, she experienced less pain and a smoother recovery after her spay surgery than she did after this grooming appointment. Watching her struggle to sleep, constantly lick her wounds, and react in fear was heartbreaking. I cried three times during this process -- not out of anger, but from helplessness, watching my fur baby suffer from something that should have been routine and safe. Since this incident, Maya has been too traumatized to tolerate professional grooming. To this day, we can only bathe and trim her ourselves. I'm sharing this not because of a cosmetic disagreement, a minor irritation, or something that "just happens." It resulted in visible blood traces on her paws, scrape marks inside her ears, prescription medication, a vet visit, days of pain, sleepless nights, and long-term fear. I'm sharing this so other dog parents -- especially those with sensitive or anxious dogs -- understand the potential risks and can make a fully informed decision. No dog should leave a grooming appointment injured. No owner should have to learn this lesson the hard way.

Immediately left of the entrance is the adoption center where they have kitties up for adoption. The workers were tending to the kitties and trying to keep them entertained with toys and they were allowed to run around in the adoption room which was super cute. They also carry all manner of fishes here. Right now they have Halloween decorations in a lot of the tanks which are really cute. One of them was a little tombstone that said "Flushed too soon". There were also hermit crabs and tiny shrimps for sale. They also had a big display of bettas. Most of them looked like they were in good health. There was actually one that was on its side but pranked us and started swimming off as we were about to go speak with an employee. They also had care instructions available to read along the display. We visited the small rodent section where there were guinea pigs, skinny pigs (the naked ones!), gerbils, and hamsters. It's just the beginning of fall now but I saw dog costumes already for sale. There were also cold weather items like jackets by Upper Canada Pooch and booties already on display.

This groomer was highly recommended to me by a woman I met at the dog park. She was so convincing…read morethat I immediately gave Lina a call. But I was disappointed from beginning to end. First of all, she could not give me a specific appointment time, only a date. I told her that I worked from home and my work was based on booking appointments and I asked her if she could please give me an appointment time, she said she would come "in the afternoon". The day before, she messaged to tell me she would be there at 5:00. I had already booked a client at 5pm thinking that was past "afternoon", but I cancelled it in order to keep the grooming appointment because my dog was overdue for a cut. At 2pm the next day she called me to tell me that she had had 2 cancellations and could come to my house right then. I was free so I agreed. She took my dog and said she'd be finished in an hour. I told her I was going to the bank and the library. Before I got back, she called and I could hear my dog crying very plaintively in the background. She did not explain why he was crying or offer him any soothing words. The crying was quite disturbing as he never cries like that. The groomer didn't want to wait the 5 or 10 minutes it would take me to get home and said she would come and meet me where I was, at the mall down the street from my house. My dog was anxious and had the worst haircut he's ever had. For this she charged me $90. When I reacted surprised she became quite aggressively defensive. Something bad had quite obviously happened to my dog. I checked him for cuts but found nothing, but he was jumpy and skittish with other people, and even with me (which he never is usually). The next day I got out my grooming scissors to clean up all the tufts of hair that she had missed. My dog quivered with fear at the sight of the scissors and the shaking got quite violent as I trimmed him, even though I was speaking softly and warmly with him the whole time and treating him very gently. I will never use this service again and I will be warning all my pet-owning friends about her.

I posted pics of how happy he looks. She calmed him down right away. She was right on time. She is fast but very thorough and careful. She uses natural shampoos and conditioners. She cleaned his ears carefully and also used a special sander to shorten his nails because he was freaking out about the clippers. Nobody, I repeat, nobody has been able to come groom my dog. He is 130 pounds and a very protective breed. How she managed to get him so happy I have no idea. But I know that no one else can groom him. It's not even a choice. Not to mention, she is so nice!!!! THANK YOU LINA without you I would not be able to get him groomed.
