I just noticed that it's been 9 years since I last reviewed Sorrento's. It's the easiest review to write since this is one of my top bakeries in NJ. I've stopped here to pick up lunch literally hundreds of times over the past 30 years or so. Sorrento's is as good now as the first time I went there, probably even better! The sandwiches here are outstanding! The quality of the ingredients is first rate and the prices are very reasonable. There's plenty of salads and soup here to go with the sandwiches also. The stars of the show here for me though are the bakery items. Whether it's the cakes, donuts, or pastries, I've never had anything here I didn't like. Some favorites for me are the Napoleons, Lobster Tail, Linser Tarts, and Black & White cookies. My wife loves the Red Velvet Cupcakes and the Cannolis. The Thanksgiving pies from here are always a huge hit. If you haven't been to Sorrento's Bakery, check it out. I'm planning on stopping here for many more years! read more

Best bread around. Fantastic bakery. But I won't order another deli sandwich again. $18 for a roast beef with barely any meat on it? No thanks. I rather be charged $23-25 for the same sandwich with the proper amount of meat on it so I felt like I was getting some value at least. I had several additional baked goods from this spot. I once again had the St. Joseph pastry with cannoli cream (see previous review for similar thoughts). I also had a small tiramisu. It was nicely done. The cake was soft, and the entire portion was extremely light. It was a traditional dessert done right. I also tried a red velvet square cake. It was alright. I was not a huge fan of the cream cheese frosting, and the actual red velvet cake was a little plain. So I used to have a personal preference of never ordering sandwiches outside of a Hudson County deli, but this place floored me in the best way. Food: I ordered a roast beef and mozz sandwich which was surprisingly tasty. I add hot peppers instead of roasted red peppers which was also an insanely smart decision. Most importantly, the bread was outstanding. Aesthetic: Nice spread of package goods on shelves lined the floor that made its way to the deli area, and I love the fact that they have three separate areas which includes the deli, bread, and sweets/baked goods. Service: the guy who helped me at the counter was super cool and double checked with me while working on everything I ordered, which I greatly appreciate from a deli. read more

I can't begin to express my frustration. I have been going to Sorrento's for over 25 years and I have ordered countless cakes. In ALLLL those years with ALLLL of those cakes, they have only ever gotten the decoration right twice. It's so bad that it has become a joke among my family members. They can't wait to see how badly Sorrento's will mess up the cake at every event. I realize that their cakes taste the best which is why I continued to go there but this is just too much. My cake order today will be my last cake order. I literally could not have made this design any easier... I wanted it to be completely plain white... no flowers, no edging... literally just frost the damn thing in whipped cream and write 3 words in red in the middle bc I planned to decorate this one by myself knowing that I couldn't leave it up to the decorators at Sorrento's. Well, they overcomplicated it, added red flowers and green leaves all over it, leaving me no room to decorate AND the red is bleeding across the whipped cream (which I knew would happen if they used too much red on top of the whipped cream). The cake looks awful... again. Luckily, there are many delicious bakeries around and I will be taking my business elsewhere. read more

Can't help but feel like these people think I am doing them a favor every time I shop there. There are 2 customers in the shop and six workers yet I am standing around for almost 5 minutes waiting for someone to acknowledge me. No one who works there ever smiles or says thank you unless they know you. This place is down the street from me and their customer service is so atrocious that I will drive way out of my way to go to Calandra's in Fairfield because at least their workers aren't downright hostile. read more

They have a fantastic bakery offering lots of cakes, cookies & breads, as well as a sandwich counter that also has sone homemade salads. Today I had the #28- grilled eggplant, arugula, mozzarella & I subbed sun dried tomatoes for roasted red peppers. Comes with a drizzle of balsamic. You can get a small , half and full ( bread was so tasty- crisp on outside & chewy on inside- the way it should be). They also do wraps . For dessert I had some double layer hazelnut cream triangles- they prob have a specific name but I have no idea. There was so much to choose from. At any rate they were delish too !! Although I went at lunchtime there wasn't a long wait. Pretty much got my order in about 5 minutes after I walked in and was able to peruse the desserts while my sandwich was being made. We received a coconut lemon cake during the holidays. The outside was decorated with lemon candies and coconut. The inside cake was fluffy and soft, the lemon pudding was not too tart and pretty standard. The frosting was a bit crumbly/very sweet, and the texture was a bit hard. I prefer frosting that is light, creamy, and not overly sweet. The coconut was a bit dried out. I just walked out of this bakery after standing there for nearly 10 minutes, not being helped. Being overlooked despite being the only black person in there I had two people that worked there. I wouldn't say this bakery is in the top 10 been there a few times and I rate it as an OK bakery. I bought a banana cream pie 3/4 of it was cream now I understand it's called a banana cream pie, but there was hardly any bananas and hardly any custard in it so I basically paid 22.95 for a cream pie. PROS: This was a very nice Bakery! Unlike other Bakeries, they have a Deli department in addition to many things on the racks in front of the store that was imported. Staff is very nice and the prices are reasonable. There's also a lot of parking for a bakery. CONS: No price is on display in the show cases or on the wall for the bakery department, just for the Deli department.
