There are plenty of locals taking this train, so it's not expensive at all. The trip from Naples to Sorrento was under 10 euro. Much better than a cab or car at 150 euro. There are a lot of panhandlers. There was one particular guy that was on every single time we were on the train, playing Despacito, and driving me mad but luckily it lasts maybe 10 min for the most part.

If…read moreyou are arriving from a long distance train on TrenItalia, after getting off at Napoli Centrale, walk towards the Napoli Plaza Garibaldi direction. The Circumvesuviana is at the lower levels of the station. The ticket can be directly purchased from the ticket window. Be aware of your surroundings, as there are many shady characters around. There is good police presence, but still one has to be careful. There are about 19 stations before the train stops at Pompeii Scavi and it takes 35 minutes or so. The entrance to the ruins are just to the right of the station and very convenient. On the return, make sure you have tickets for the Circumvesuviana, which can only be purchased from the ticket window. There is an express train to Naples, which does not honor the circumvesuviana tickets. This train has a conductor that checks the tickets on entry.

You guys are amazing!…read more Most travelers probably never pass another bus length-wise basically window to window as little as three inches from each other, faces almost plastered to the glass in awe and looking at someone going the other direction maybe a foot away. That idea is likely foreign, until one rides SITA. These are the most very skilled bus drivers the world over. For many, many miles they navigate tight, windy, crazy roads effortlessly avoiding obstacles, crazed tourists and mopeds. It is a feat to ride with and experience the skill of these genius pilots of the autobus along SS163 from Salerno to Positano and beyond to Sorrento. Kudos many times over. Be advised: riding at the front window is not for the faint of heart and in its own way rivals the best amusement park ride you've been on. A glass of wine beforehand might make more enjoyable. ;)

This is a good way to see Almafi coast, but I wouldn't recommend it if you get car sick easily as the roads are super twisty. Coming home we missed the bus we wanted to take and had to wait an hour for the next bus, however we did get seats and the way home was much faster. Next time I would get to the station earlier to avoid the wait and idiot tourists. I would recommend taking the SITA to see all towns in the coast if you don't want to spend a ton ( it was 8 euro for a 24 hour pass) and don't have a car.

Both men were professional, charming and friendly, as if your Italian relatives were driving you. Umberto became somewhat of a legend on that trip, since he took us to the towns our families came from and became our interpreter. And oh... Umberto is the father of Giovanni, who runs Benvenuto Limos. (We sent a video to them as a thank you.) This August at the last minute (well, for me at least, during June) after much urging by my wife and the people of Ottati I attended the 75th Anniversary of the opening of town's aqueduct. Fundraising was done by my great uncle and others in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, my hometown, as well by a group in Pennsylvania. There was no way I was driving two hours up the mountains. My wife told me to call Giovanni and Benvenuto and guess who picked me up in Naples? Umberto! And he picked me up a couple of days later to take me back to Naples. This was a must all thanks to the Benvenuto team. One of the most memorable moments was our dinner in Positano at a restaurant that is a little bit hidden from the main touristy area, La Guarracino. Giovanni personally called the restaurant to get us a reservation and gave us recommendations of what to order. The assorted chefs choice sea food plate was one of the best things we've ever had and the whole night was so magical. This trip was so special and memorable for my family.
