I called and spoke in a formal polite greeting in French and asked in French if they spoke English. The woman was laughing and thought the urgency was very funny. Pretended not to know what an arrondissement is and said there was no street by the name we are at in Paris. We rent there. Continued to laugh. Told me if I spoke slow in English she would help me. She had me repeat the street name 7 times while laughing and mocking the letters back asking me to pronounce them. I asked her what her name was and she said Smithsonian. The medical desert in France already starts beyond the péripherique. I called SOS Medecins from St. Denis because I was suffering from a bad migraine with vomiting that wouldn't respond to painkillers. The lady who answered the phone had zero empathy. With a loud, domineering voice she lectured me that St. Denis is not Paris and that I should look for a doctor's office that is open on a Saturday. Their doctors only do house visits inside Paris she said. On their website they advertise medical house visits for "Grand Paris" which includes Seine Saint Denis. So apparently this is no longer the case. I wish I had known that important piece of information in advance. I also wish they would employ operators better suited for talking to people who are calling in for medical help. read more

Very disappointed. Called them for a hotel visit. Have bronchitis or a pneumonia. Coughing for 2 weeks already. Also have terrible pain urinating. Excruciating phone call. A thousand questions just to be told st the end sorry there is no one available to make a house call in a hotel. I begged a pharmacist to finally get some antibiotics. While visiting Paris, our 7yr old daughter got sick (caught what it seemed to be a virus - fever for over 48 hours). Called S.O.S. Médecins and within 30 mins a doctor arrived at our AirBNB. He checked for vitals and prescribed antibiotics and paracetamol. Dr. gave us a prescription to be filled at a nearby pharmacy. Excellent service and affordable price $130€. He spoke English and Spanish. We had international medical coverage so he gave us a receipt so that we can file a claim when we return home. Highly recommended. A+ Service! read more

I just got back from France where I was with a group of friends. While in Paris, one of them developed a nasty cough that had her wheezing and worried us enough that we felt she should see a doctor. We asked the hotel concierge for help. He immediately called SOS Medecins, a company that specializes in emergency concierge care. An English-speaking MD arrived at our friend's room within 40 minutes. He checked her vital signs, asked her about any underlying conditions and medications she takes, diagnosed her with a bacterial infection of the bronchial tubes, and gave her a prescription for an antibiotic, plus three other medications including a nebulizer since she had suffered from asthmatic bronchitis in the past. His bill for the visit was 110 Euros (about $120). I walked 250 feet to the nearby pharmacy (there are at least as many pharmacies in Paris as there are bakeries). The pharmacist filled the prescriptions instantly. The total charge - not the co-pay, total charge without insurance, was 23.40 Euros (about $26.) I returned to the hotel, gave my friend the medications and the receipt, including paperwork she could submit to her insurance company upon return to the US. When she saw the cost, her eyes just about popped out of her head. She couldn't believe how inexpensive and efficient the whole thing had been. It took less than 90 minutes out of our day, and under $150 to receive, quite literally, concierge medicine in Paris. How much would this have cost us in San Francisco or New York? Would it even have been possible to receive care so promptly? I very much doubt it. read more

I went to Paris for two weeks with my family and before leaving to any country I always do research on the healthcare system nearest hospital etc. My 17-year-old son started to have severe throat pain a headache and just not feeling himself. I called SOS and in the beginning it was a little difficult because they require a Paris phone number which I do not have been from San Francisco and we were only visiting for two weeks but after speaking to a few people they were really awesome and a doctor was sent to our apartment in the center of Paris within 15 minutes. The doctor then prescribed antibiotics and painkillers for our son. I am so glad We had a doctor that was able to come to our apartment. Though he was sick the remainder of the trip the antibiotics was a plus. read more

I saw a doctor while vacationing in Barcelona (NOT SOS Medecins) who was recommended by the hotel where we were staying who came to the hotel room. My symptoms were: sore throat, painful cough, congestion, shortness of breath, fever, and body aches. She said it might be my heart or liver (?!?!) and said to go the hospital. What a waste of 150€. I stayed in the hotel room and took ibuprofen. I arrived in Paris a couple of days later, feeling miserable with the same symptoms. Around 5 am Sunday morning the hotel called SOS Medecins. Dr. Bennadji arrived in 30 minutes, diagnosed me, and prescribed antibiotics, steroids, etc. He was very nice, very thorough, and listened well. Totally worth 130€! read more

How terrible was SOS Médecins! No in-person visit; so-called tele-visit was only about charging us. And did they take any of the three credit cards we've been using all week in Paris? No, absolutely not. No explanation, just refused, and no doctor or medical advice. Don't waste your time; look elsewhere if you're sick or in pain and need medical advice; someplace with modern payment software. Very disappointing. read more

Had the front desk of our hotel call SOS when our 5 month old was showing signs of an ear infection while on vacation in Paris. They were at our hotel room in an hour, €120 for the visit, sent someone who spoke English. After a quick examination he told us exactly what we needed, exact directions and wrote it all down. He also declared it an emergency so that we can bring back to our insurance at home and be reimbursed. We went to a pharmacy and it was filled right away, €10 for amoxicillin for ear infection and a steroid for bronchial irritation. Totally worth the money, for my little one to be comfortable / feel better and for our piece of mind. We would highly recommend! May take longer on weekends because not as many docs on, but we did on a Monday and it seemed like a quick turnaround. read more

Got dehydrated and sick on the flight over to Paris ,,, called SOS and a doctor came 45 minutes later to my hotel too. He spoke English and diagnosed me and gave me some pills. It was $130 Euros and I was great the next day. Wonderful service. read more

Dr. Philippe Gautier saved me last night. I had a cough and cold and had picked up Humex and Exomuc from a pharmacist in town. When I woke up in the morning I had rashes and hives all over my body and face. I took Benadryl through the day but the itching got worse, especially my head, neck and ears. We called SOS Medicins at about 9:30 pm. The Dr. showed up to our apt we were renting in Paris within an hour. He diagnosed that it was an allergic reaction from the two medicins I had been given. He gave me medicine right then and there and then wrote a prescription for me to pick up the following day. This was at 11:00 at night. We were charged $150 for a house visit! Very inexpensive by American standards. He also spoke English. He saved our vacation! read more

Who would think that you'd need a doctor while on vacation? I woke one morning at 5am. in extreme pain. After approx. 4 hours and the pain getting worse, I called the front desk to see if they had a Dr. On call (it was either that or go to the hospital). They contacted this company and a doctor was in my hotel room within an hour. He diagnosed my condition almost immediately ( I was passing a kidney stone). He gave me a shot, wrote a prescription and was gone in about 15 minutes. The shot (a muscle relaxant) worked in about 2 minutes...great relief. The prescription was filled for pain killers at a Pharmacy across the street ($7€) Cost for a room visit was 90€ ( it was a weekend), but it's normally $70€ during the week. My husband was feeling miserable and needed a doctor. Our hotelier contacted S.O.S and a doctor was at our hotel immediately. He spoke great English. He listened to my husbands symptoms and performed an evaluation of him. He determined he had a double ear infection. He cleared out his ears and gave him several prescriptions to help him get better before our flight home. My husband was even able to enjoy a few days of Paris. The price was not too high; in fact the cost of the visit plus the antibiotics and pain medications were less than a trip to the urgent care. read more

While my wife and I were vacationing in France, we both got sick, bedridden with fever and a bad bronchitis. I called the front desk at the hotel and asked if they could send a doctor (yes, doctors do house calls in France). Knowing that both of us would get the treatment any tourist would get, we were prepared to pay full price and we did. Within an hour, A doctor (from S.O.S Médecins) arrived to our room. He did two consultations (spoke fluent English), checked all our vitals and left us 2 separate prescriptions. The total cost (including more than a week supply of medication) was $125 per person. This is what any uninsured person would have to pay in France. If I had my French social security card, I would have had to pay.. well nothing. When a similar incident happened to me in America, I had to drive to the emergency room at the hospital, while I didn't get to see an actual doctor it costed me just over $1500. What is wrong with this image? "Just so you know, with the money we saved being sick in France we extended our stay one more week...." I wish you all good health! read more
