It's not often that a shop window is off-putting but with the sugary sweet pink walls and cutesy clothes on display, I did have to think twice before entering Soukous. I was pleased I decided to see past the pink as this is a fantastic clothing, gift and homeware shop, split over two floors. On the ground floor there are lots of cute greetings cards, stationary, photo frames and children's clothing. Downstairs there is a wall of women's clothing but it was all very floral and a little too hippy-ish for my liking, but perfect for a festival-goer or a yummy mummy. Whilst down here I barely got a look at the large range of Hello Kitty products before a gaggle of teenage girls swept down the stairs, cooing over which Kitty lip gloss to buy (I believe she picked strawberry in the end, much to the disgust of her friend). There was also a large selection of plastic novelty bows and plates, including a cute red and white polka dot set that I know I would never use but want all the same. The prices were competitive and with so many gift type products in here I would defiantly come back here the next time I need a present for a female friend.

Pink, pink, and more pink! A shop that scares men and excites the girlie girls. Think of anything a girlie girl would like and Soukous are guaranteed to have it. I cannot imagine somebody failing to find something suitable here. The trouble with this shop is that, although everything is cute and almost perfect as a gift, it means that you begin to recognise where your own presents have come from. I love their selection of cards and bath goodies. The rest of the shop is full to the brim with fail-safe gift options such as mugs, diaries, fairy lights, ornaments and candles. Being very gift-like and fail-safe, the owner has picked up on this and this unfortunately means that the items are slightly over-priced. Expect to pay a little extra but content in the knowledge that your gift will be perfect.

With a lot of vintage minxes out there you can be sure to find something from your preferred decade - if not the real thing (some things are very pricey!) then the owners know their stuff to point you to something that will look the part for your budget. They are happy for you to browse and enquire about different pieces.

This is true one on one customer service, as the kind gentleman behind the till, Mr Graves of the name, will find you, without fail, a piece that you'll fall in love with. Their secret power is the fact they cater to all - they have really affordable items, from £8, to things that most of us couldn't afford in a long time, as their catalogue extends to items near £8000. Nevertheless, the quality of service to both the £8 customers and the £8K customers is just as good. Even if you're not after a purchase, it's worth a look to be overwhelmed by the beauty of the shop itself, and then the items they keep. With adverts placed in Vogue, Tatler, and Harper & Collins, they have some serious clients and are decidedly Cliftonian, but these are all good things in my opinion. Go search for those gems!

Feminine gift shops tend to fall into two categories; one that makes girls want to buy things for themselves and ones that boyfriends rely on for gifts for their girlfriends. Inca falls into the latter category. This is a reliably safe shop for boys you want to pick up a pretty (but expensive) piece of jewellery, or who are in pursuit of a meaningful birthday card. But girls, if you're looking for a gift for your friend, or a treat for yourself I'd sooner head to Bloomsbury or Iota.

There are some with beautiful art prints, a lot of very funny cards and most importantly for me, lots of very original ideas and designs. Inca has a huge range of cards and one for every occasion, all cards are of a good quality, I spent a long time just looking at all the cards - there were so many to choose from! The store has lots of great gift ideas too; candles, scarves, stationary and some gorgeous packaging to wrap your gifts in. The only thing to bare-in-mind is that Inca does not accept card payments of less than £5.00. On the right hand side of the store are a set of jewellery counters housing some lovely sterling silver pieces. Inca is one of the only places offering this sort of jewellery in this area (especially with the recent closure of High-Ho-Silver on the triangle); lots of very interesting designs with heavy silver pendants, bangle and rings with aqua and amber stones. I could easily while-away the hours in this store, and come out with bags of stuff! This review is mostly the opinion of my girlfriend, I tend not to buy much silver jewellery.
