Writing this after we just completed the almost 9 month journey with my wife being "advanced…read morematernal age" with 45+ visits through the entirety. Overall I'm going to rate it at a 4/5. +1 - location and parking - the 2 dollar parking added up after while, ha. +1 - venue and atmosphere - cookie cutter office with no additional decor +1 - cleanliness - it's clear that they take care to keep things up here +1 - check-in staff - 99 percent of the time everyone was helpful and understanding with no issues -1 - inconsistency in staff/service - it was tough to build any relationships and felt more like a number and quota more often than not. I'd also say there were less with good bedside manner than we saw with it. It was good when we got a lot of the seasoned staff; still, just the variety made it tough and forced explaining all issues and history every single time for context. Not that i think we will, but if we were going to try for one more kid we'd work to be back again!

I arrived at 7:10 a.m. for a 7:30 appointment. The doors were locked, which was fine -- I was early…read more-- but two employees walked right past my husband and me, literally within a few feet, and didn't say a single word. No "good morning," no "we'll be with you soon," nothing. Just blank stares and silence. The second employee left the door unlocked, so after she got to her desk, we went in... only to be met with a snippy "We're not open, go sit over there." The tone was rude and completely unnecessary. A simple explanation like, "Give me a few minutes to get my computer started and drink a sit of coffee," would have been polite and professional. Apparently, that was too much to ask. Once checked in, the nurse took my vitals and immediately asked for a urine sample and said we'd be doing an echo and genetic testing. When I questioned why a urine sample was needed (I had an OB appointment right after) and said we'd already done genetic counseling, she acted like I was being difficult. I told her I wasn't trying to cause any issues I was just confused with what was being recommended. Then she brought in the office manager -- who was shockingly rude. Instead of listening or explaining anything, she told me we could "either do all the tests or leave." When I asked for clarification, she repeated the same line, completely dismissive and condescending. She couldn't even tell me whether the tests were ordered by my OB or just standard practice because she "didn't have access to the chart." Seriously? After all that, I found out the so-called "genetic testing" they insisted on wasn't even testing -- it was genetic counseling to go over the echo results. The genetic counselor repeated everything we already knew (which is why I told them it was unnecessary. I'm pretty sure this was just a way for them to charge the insurance for additional services). And the she attempted to go over the echo results. I asked questions about the echo and all she could say was "the report says this is normal, the report says that is normal". So clearly she wasn't skilled enough to have a high level discussion about the echo results which is fine because she is a genetic counselor and not a cardiologist/sonographer. But I still don't understand why she was involved when the echo was the whole purpose of the visit. In conclusion, this place clearly has no concept of basic customer service or bedside manner. From the moment we arrived, the staff acted cold, unhelpful, and borderline hostile. If this is how they treat expectant parents, it's honestly embarrassing for the entire practice. Save yourself the frustration and go somewhere that actually respects patients and knows how to communicate.

My practitioner, Valerie, is compassionate, thorough, and has really listened to and addressed all my questions/concerns. Valerie spent an ample amount of time with me, and armed me with a great treatment plan which included several prescription and non-pharmacological options to combat my intense symptoms of nausea/vomiting. I'm feeling MUCH BETTER now! She's also been very flexible in meeting my needs in regards to ordering my prenatal screening lab work. The ultrasound techs, Emily and Sheila, are both very knowledgeable and personable, and Katie at the front desk is just the sweetest! Overall, my prenatal care at this practice has been top notch, and I'm a very happy mama!

I am grateful for the empowering experience I had giving birth with these midwives, and am glad they have found a new home. I just went in for my well woman check and was treated like a dear friend, and a human that mattered. It was nice to see everyone again, and receive care from provider whom takes my concerns seriously. The office is in transition as they adjust. The midwives are working with UT hospital on developing a women's pavilion or wing, complete with a natural birth center. For now, they have birth balls, showers, bars, adjustable beds, and nitrous oxide available to mothers in labor. The hospital will be installing labor tubs sometime soon. As the practice grows they plan to hire lactation consultants and educators. I am excited that UT will be teaching future OB/GYNs how to work with midwives and best support women wishing for natural labor. I look forward to watching the University Midwives flourish!

First of all, they noticed that I barely passed my glucose test and had me take the 3 hour test, which I failed. I'm so thankful to have been closely monitored in the last few weeks of pregnancy. Secondly, the delivery process was a dream. I was able to speak to the midwife on call to decide when I should come in when I started having contractions. They got me back very promptly and honored my birth plan. They explained every step of the process for me and always asked permission before doing anything. When baby girl was stuck, they worked with me for almost three hours, trying different positions to avoid using the vacuum. I cannot recommend this team highly enough!

She and the team of wonderful nurses at Fort Sanders got me through a difficult labor that required over 5 hours of pushing that ended with no instruments used and minimal, non-external tears. I felt Dr. Martin managed my and my baby's care so well the whole time. I also really appreciate that she practices alone and personally delivers every baby in her practice. That's pretty much impossible to find these days. I switched to her at 20 weeks in part because I hadn't actually gotten to see my OB yet by 20 weeks at my last practice, just nurse practitioners. I love that Dr. Martin actually sees and takes care of all her own patients.
