Ummm lemme tell you about Soulutions: COME EAT HERE! Located in what can only be described as a hipsters dream cafeteria, this restaurant boasts some of the best tasting food. From ribs, to fried chicken Mac, greens with Parmesan, award winning wings, and perfectly seasoned fried catfish (only served on Fridays), there is something for everyone. The prices are great and enough to where you can feed a family of 3 for under $40. Which is a steal! Loved my meal from SOULutions! A friend had raved about the mac and cheese, which I have had before. I know the catfish is typically a Friday deal, but I never remember even though it's on my list. Somehow there was catfish on a Saturday and it was my lucky day! With the two sides, I think it was under $20. The catfish was so well done--the perfect batter. The yams were also great, though I ate most of them another day. Typically, I'm not much of a cornbread fan but it was also amazing here. Inside Salt City which I love for the variety of options for meals, desserts, drinks, and cocktails, by the rear entrance the crew greets with happy smiling faces and quickly takes the orders only a few minutes to delivery. We like to sit in the front enjoying the rare Syracuse sun and people watch at the corner of S Salina and W Onondaga Sts. The chicken was very flavorful although a bit dry on the sandwich and very dry in the meal according to my lunch pal. The hash browns are well seasoned although a tad salty and difficult to fork as they are small. My friends yams she said were as delicious as they looked and I would guess right on because she did not offer to share. Cornbread looked light and fluffy although that was saved for dinner leftovers. The Mac and cheese was bright yellow and ok is what I was told. I would return to try the ribs another time. read more

I won a contest to get food from Soulutions Catering. The food was incredible! I am very fussy about ribs and these were delicious. They fell off the bone and had tons of flavor. This was my 1st time trying catfish. It was so good. Very crispy and light. The greens and cornbread were amazing. Fire mac was too spicy for me, but my son devoured it. SOULutions is the vision of industry veteran Sleyrow Mason, who began cooking alongside his mother at the age of 5. It was in that kitchen that he learned the basics of traditional southern dishes. Chef Sleyrow then went on to attend a culinary program offered by Syracuse's Sydney Johnson Center. After completing the program, he went on to work in some of Syracuse's finest restaurants, honing his skills and acquiring positions such as sous chef and kitchen manager. In 2021, a food hall type concept called Salt City Market opened, and SOULutions moved into one of the available spots. Wife and I went down to Salt City Market over the weekend. I decided I was in the mood for SOULutions, so I ordered their mustard and berbere spiced fried chicken meal with Not Your Utica Greens and Fire Mac as my sides, along with confetti corn bread. The greens were delicious. The mac and cheese was good as well, although I didn't find it spicy at all. The fried chicken were two smaller fried pattys, which has great flavor, but my one criticism was that it was a tad dry and probably would've benefited from some type of dipping sauce. Plenty of food for the $16 price tag. Employees were very nice and even came and found me when my food was ready and I wasn't right at the counter to grab it. After visiting Miss Prissy's on several previous occasions, I decided to give SOULutions a try- was very glad I did. Woman behind the counter tried to sway me towards their Friday special of fried catfish, but I had other ideas. I picked the MUSTARD AND BERBERE SPICED FRIED CHICKEN -described as: "Juicy boneless chicken breast marinated in mustard and spices, breaded and deep fried." It was all that and more. Spices were on point and the chicken was tender and juicy. Had two sides to go with and I settled on the NOT YOUR UTICA GREENS- described as "Collard greens simmered with smoked turkey, tri colored peppers, onions, sun dried tomatoes and topped with parmesan cheese." These were some of the best greens I have had- complete with an interesting & satisfying blend of flavors. FIRE MAC - described as "Cavatappi pasta, habaneros, with cheddar, Monterey jack, Colby and mozzarella cheeses topped with fire sauce, crispy chicken skin and green onions." Loved their version as it had just the right amount of creaminess and heat. Right off I have to say I wish I could give a half a star, because this is a 4.5 for sure... The ONLY reason I didn't five stars to SOULutions is because they forgot about me (insert smiley face)! So it's Sunday, lots of places are closed at the Salt City Market and as a gluten free vegetarian, I'm thinking there is nothing for me to eat at the soul food restaurant... it smelled so good I had to check it out... guess what? The Slammin Yams and Confetti Cornbread were just what I needed! We made it a meal as my other half eats chicken (mustard and berbere spiced fried chicken) and the fire mac and cheese. They were just making the cornbread so we were given a buzzer and told 15 minutes. The buzzer never buzzed and there was a bit of confusion, but like 25 minutes later (we were eating other food) I went back and the guys working were great! They got my food immediately, threw in an extra cornbread for my trouble (totally worth the wait for extra cornbread). Man let me tell you... the cornbread was so good, a little sweet, a little kick... the yams? Slammin is the right name... they were just so good!
