I like cosy, clean and tastefully decorated spaces. There needs to be a warm, safe and luxurious feel to the place and I avoid clinical over the top contemporary modern style or places where the girls have these vulgar manicures - no offense. Spasiba is well located on Boulevard de Waterloo. There is plenty of parking outside, so no stress. On arrival you are given a thick cotton dressing gown and comfortable slippers. Then you go through the doors and enter a safe haven of calm. A waiting room lit by candle lights, with oriental sofa beds filled with cushions and curtains for privacy. A sauna and a hammam are also an option prior your massage. After using the spa facilities, relaxing and drinking a infused tea which is placed at your disposal on a table in the waiting room, you are called for your massage. By the time it is finished you can go back to the waiting room and relax, use the spa or take a shower and go home. Last time my massage was so relaxing that I slept for 2 hours straight after! I would give you the names of the masseurs I recommend but if I do that then I might not be able to get appointments for myself any more! I recommend this place and for you to discover!!

Crowded facilities, uncivil behaviours, dishonest practices and unresponsive management…read more The pros: the location for those who live or work nearby; a few excellent, dedicated and kind teachers The cons: below are points I raised with the management. I received no reply and so I thought to share what it really is like to be a member at this club. Just read and see for yourself. In addition, the staff plainly lied to me in order to avoid applying the 2-free-month promotional offer that I was entitled to claim. Finally, every email I've sent to the management remained unanswered. I am starting to wonder whether they actually exist. Issues with the facilities - Facilities regularly out of order: bathrooms, jacuzzi, sauna, hammam, showers - Inconsistent water temperature in the showers and low pressure most of the time - Paper towels, tissues and earbuds often missing - Shower gel dispensers in the showers broken or missing their lid, which is unhygienic - Shower floors not clean - Sauna door broken and not closing hermetically last time I checked - Floors in front of the bathrooms typically wet AND full of hairs - Overcrowded studios and changing rooms - While I am sure that most cleaning ladies do their very best, I regularly see one "doing her laundry", washing her own clothes in the sink. I saw another washing her feet in the sink as well... that is the same sink where I brush my teeth... cleaning ladies are sometimes chatting with members about beauty products while the floors are slippery or full of hair. - The zen studio floor is often dirty (big chunks of dust) and sweat is not wiped before the next class, particularly after TRX classes. Uncivil and disrespectful behaviours I've personally witnessed - A member routinely makes intimidating and disrespectful remarks to other members and cleaning staff. This is not a one-off behaviour but consistent bullying. This issue was raised at the reception but I never received any follow-up on whether it was dealt with or not (odds are, it wasn't) - new disrespectful and uncivil behaviours every day. A recent "novelty" was someone who thought it was a good idea to throw a big apple core inside one of the toilets (while there is a bin right next to it) - People leave dirty towels and soiled tissues behind them in the changing rooms with no consideration for others - People apparently stole the plastic containers in which earbuds are placed, requiring them to be taped to the wall to avoid them being stolen again ............... - A new member consistently has extremely strong body odours. I happened to be next to them during a yoga class where students are quite close to each other and I had to leave the class before the end because it was unbearable (and there was no available spot for me to move). On a different day the smell was the same. I am aware that this is beyond the club control, but just know that will be taking classes with people with no basic hygiene. - People leave the hammam and leave the door open behind them - People exiting the showers and leaving the water running ........ - People having long phone conversations in the changing rooms (or even in the toilets, while people are waiting in line outside) Club rules that are not respected - People typically arrive late in the collective classes - from 5 to even 15 minutes late, disrupting the class - I've seen people leave their mats and pillows behind them in the zen studio even though there is another class right after and people are coming in - Almost everyone brings their phone in the zen studio and do not keep these phones on silent - it is not unusual that phones start ringing, including in yoga classes - People bring their shoes into the zen studio even if it's not allowed and insist on keeping them next to their mats (thank you for the smell!).

The pool needs a complete refurbishment: tiles are missing, there are very bad smells, steam room and showers are in ruins. Aspria is planning to refurbish them but I think a deeper renovation needs to take place. As far as the fitness room is concerned there are too few bikes and elliptic machines for the number of members. In addition, screens on some of them are broken. The carpets are dirty and not very hygienic. Recent renovations are mainly small fixes (new paint on some parts of the walls and sofas in fabric which make little sense since many sit on them with their wet bathing suits). I would not recommend signing up as prices are too high. Wait and see what management does... Team (especially reception team and the lady cleaning up the ladies' changing rooms) are very nice.

Located in Tour&Taxis, nicely decorated and relaxing feel--although this is my first Hammam, it had a more authentic feel according to what others told me traditional Hammams are like. Women and men have strictly separate visits/times (as this place is mostly frequented by Middle Eastern women/men) so it makes for a more comfortable atmosphere being around women. People tend to go in groups, whether with friends or family members. You are able to go nude or wear a swimsuit. Towels, slippers and bath robe are provided/included in the price. Must speak French, very little/no knowledge of English or Dutch (some, those doing the gommage don't speak much French either) but this is not a problem as you are there to enjoy yourself and have little interaction with those working there. I would definitely recommend the gommage, which is a sticky scrub you put on your body and exfoliating glove is needed too. After you put the sticky scrub all over your body you are basically scrubbed to death with your glove by a woman, which removes all your dead skin (disgusting to see all the dead skin you have on your body!). It hurts a bit when being done, but my skin felt so nice after! Sauna and hot room are also in the spa. I enjoyed having the sauna offered as a dry, hot place after being in the wet rooms most of the time. I would also recommend having a pot of sweet Morrocan tea afterwards as there is a nice area where you can sit (and eat too) to enjoy your drink, which consists mostly of soft couches. One criticism: in my experience the customer service wasn't that great as they forgot to give us the towels, robe, slippers so we were waiting around for them to be taken to us, when in the end, we went back to the front desk to get them. Also, after paying for my glove and gommage scrub, they forgot to provide this to me as well. This was a bit annoying but in the end not a problem or anything that ruined the experience. Would recommend as a half-day, day getaway in Brussels!

But, it you are seeking a deep tissue massage; this is not the place. I asked for their strongest person, as I am a big man with musculature and wanted to be worked, deep. Made an appointment for a 90 minute massage for the following day. I was assigned to kinesiologist Sara who, while certainly knowledgeable, is simply too small and not strong enough to dig deeply into the body. She found and worked on some trouble spots and did that well; but the overall massage went barely below the skin. It was pleasant, but eminently unsatisfying. I think this is more a women's place and that men are "extra." I saw many women there, many in hijab, giving me the post-impression that it is more a luxury spa than a place for active massage. Worth a try, a tad expensive, relaxing if that is what is sought.
