So, it took a while to get here, namely because most times I went past it was closed, but one Sunday afternoon I was fortunate enough to discover that it was open. Sure it sounds like a sales gimmic but I believe them and they are south Australian too. I have to support local business. I love their new nashi pear cider. Its like nothing I have ever tasted before in a pear cider. It has a strong woody after taste. I love it. Cant wait to try their apple and ginger flavour. I hope this local continues to do well.

Holy heck they have a hopped cider, this is amazing, my boyfriend doesn't really like cider and he loves hoppy beer like IPA's whereas I like cider and do not like beer specially not IPA's, this cider works for both of us and that hop flavour is so delicate but definitely there. Need to purchase over and over again. 2. Now, we don't want to condone binge drinking, BUT who doesn't love an 8% cider...Ginger and Apple cider i discovered is high in alcohol but not only that delicious, tart and tasty with that little ginger kick which I love, if you are a light weight you may only need 1-2 of these and be done. The event made me open my eyes to such a larger range which is so much tastier than the basic apple and pear, it makes things interesting, i hate sweet ciders but these two different options are not sweet nor girly!! Delish! Get me one now because work is hectic (obviously since I am writing a review whilst being at work).

Attended the official opening today of the new Big Shed venue on Port Road. Great venue and…read morefriendly staff. What let it down was the ridiculous price charged for the "craft" beers. Having grown up in the UK and enjoyed real ale for many years through CAMRA and such like it's disappointing that a new venue like this should charge $12 for a "pint" of beer for this can be best described as a metric pint, aka 375ml, whereas an imperial pint is about 550ml. In the UK you would pay around 4 pound for a 550ml pint of real ale - which is about $9. Why then do we have to be ripped off like this at the Big Shed - especially on opening day where you would think at least they would be offering specials. Shame on you - it's pure profiteering!

The Coopers Brewery tour is helping put the Rad in Radelaide…read more The tour was rather scientific, going beyond the standard "beer is made from water, malt, yeast, and hops." I suspect this was partially tailored to our group because our small tour was comprised of beer nerds & beer lovers. But either way, this is a tour through the actually factory, not added tourist set-ups, like Guinness or Heineken tours. Which also means you get to wear bright orange vests - bonus! Our guide was great and extremely knowledgable, with an interest in home-brewing. The money from the tour is donated to charity, and the tour includes tastings of the Coopers range and a souvenir glass to take home at the end. So for both locals and visitors - pat yourself on the back for supporting charity while drinking some fermented Australian history. Tips: You must wear closed-toed shoes on the factory tour. Designate a sober driver or take public transport so you can enjoy all the beer tastings!

The only issue is finding the time if you're not on vay-k, as there's only one tour a day, Tuesday to Friday at 1pm. No chance of "taking a long lunch..." Buzz the intercom at the main gates of the factory for access and you half expect to be asked for your golden ticket. It really is a "wonderland" of ingenious inventions, a 3 hole golf course, concert venue... I won't give too much away, but just that the tour is highly technical. As you walk around the factory some of the processes give off lots of heat. Some areas are noisy. It's a little overwhelming. People get shy. But then you hit the "tastings" part of the tour and everyone relaxes and livens up. So I guess sort of like going to any bar... Unless you've played some sort of true blue SA drinking game, this is a one off opportunity to sample and compare the entire Coopers range. What you discover may surprise! Frank, your guide, makes the tour... ask about the Sparkling canary. The deets: -$22 for the tour ($20 of that goes to charity). -Book ahead -Wear closed toe shoes... and that's it!

Then again, it is good to spread your produced, though sometimes specialising works quite well too. It is a little tricky to find, but it is certainly worth it when you get there, especially with the great selections that they have available.

Actually, come to think of it, the service here was also pretty good. In fact it was great, and the atmosphere is also pretty good here. Oh, and being next to the railway station certainly makes it pretty handy as well. Yeah, I have to admit that I really did quite like this place.

From the likes of Brooklyn Beer to MOA and BrewFist and the largest range of SA brews like Brew Boys, Birbecks, Steam Exchange and Goodieson (seriously no one stocks Goodieson except Goodieson) these guys must be on some kind of black market, underground trading scheme to have such variety. They run tasting events from Thursday to Sunday (which I'm going to have to schedule in). They also have a fortnightly rotating tap for filling your growler. Yep, that's right you can get your growler sterilised and filled to the brim of a beer you won't normally be able to get by the bottle. You heard me! A range of boutique, small batch SA wine makers and some interesting bottles from overseas are also available. They also have my favourite KIS Gin in stock. All in all this is the melting pot for high end, premium and rare alcoholic finds.

Boasting an excellent array of wines, beers, ciders and a decent spirit selection, Goodwood cellars has the who's-who of wine in South Australia with the heavy hitters and small wineries and brewers on feature. I'm more of a wine drinker myself so my knowledge of the beer selection and ability to comment on it is somewhat redundant (but other reviewers rave, so go read there opinions!). Small wineries that had previously given me the impression of only having a cellar door for sales are prone to appearing for a limited run in store, but I enjoy this as it lets me vary up my local wine knowledge. Prices are very reasonable with monthly specials in all the major categories letting you explore the finer side of the palate without breaking the budget and favourites staying at a consistent price. The best part of this bottle shop has to be the service. The team here definitely know what they're talking about and are always willing to help. Looking for something for yourself? Tell them your preferences and they'll hunt it down (white, crisp, riesling, not sweet, about $20). Looking for a present? They'll find something to suit and impress and will keep your budget in mind (without making you feel like a cheapskate!). And if you have something specific in mind, they'll take you straight to it, saving you from wandering direction-less in those overly large bottle stores popular of late. Only down side is that the spirit section isn't overly large, so don't do what I've done before and drop into pick up Dad's favourite only to find it out of stock on Fathers' Day. That would be an ill-considered move. Oh and its an independent! So feel good about not fueling the coorporate greed whilst downing a hearty red. Nice.
