I came here on a Sunday afternoon with a friend for a local foodie social gathering. I had been to the Georgetown location, where the service was pretty terrible so I had low expectations coming to this location. Parking was a bit of a hassle, pay attention to all the street signs so you don't get a ticket! Upon entering this location, there is lots and lots of seating available. There are huge menu signs next to the cash register, the staff here were friendly and kept the line moving quickly. FYI - no cash is accepted here. I ordered the PBJ Acai Bowl which comes blended with organic acai, peanut butter, banana, blueberry and almond milk and topped with handmade Granola, blueberries and bananas. All of the ingredients were super fresh and the bowl was very flavorful. This was a refreshing healthy treat on a hot day! I would definitely come back here to try the other menu items. I also love that they have puppy smoothies on the menu for $3! If this location wasn't so far I would bring my dogs here all the time :) As mentioned earlier, there is plenty of seating available inside. Really neat spot for some yummy açaí bowls!! Their "smaller" bowl is actually massive so you could definitely buy 1 for 2 people! The atmosphere is really modern and perfect for getting some work done while enjoying your yummy treat! On my way out of Alexandria, South Block was conveniently located right next to my car so I stopped by to grab a smoothie for the road. I was on foot but street parking is your best bet if you're driving. South Block is a cool place to hang out as it's trendy and there's plenty of seating. It's actually a juice and smoothie bar plus a yoga studio all in one. They also have food like acai bowls. I can't remember the name of the smoothie I purchased but it was solid. The difference between the two size cups you can choose from isn't that much so I opted for the larger option. Only downside? It took the dude unreasonably long to make my smoothie. He was moving like a sloth. Kind of like the sloths at the DMV in that one movie (Zootopia, I believe?!). Pick up the pace, bro! read more

I will only give 3 stars for a couple reasons: they only take cards, staff not very friendly as I stated earlier and not much seating space inside. South Block is one of my favorite local chains because it does what it's supposed to do well. I love Açaí Bowls so that's what gets me there. The fresh ingredients and wide array of toppings and additions, makes South Block the best in my book. Even better than By Brazil in Wheaton. The other thing that does South Block well is the location. Old Town Alexandria does it for me and the new Founders Hall is great example of the old, in use. The inside is modern but not tacky nor cheap looking and even South Block has great artwork on the walls. Once your food is ready they'll call your name when it's ready. They know your name since they don't accept cash and your card has your name. Maybe that might spook you if you got someone else's card and they call that person's name. I grabbed my bowl to-go but the South Block space is conducive to spending time or working on a project so you have options. Just like the many options you can add to your bowl. With a great product, cool location, top-notch service and a satisfied customer, a 5 Star experience. read more

I just had a really disappointing experience here and won't be returning. Which is too bad...because I work close by and have often recommended to coworkers that we go here for lunch. Not any more. Context: I've had 20+ açaí bowls at the Clarendon, del ray and now this old town store so I'm well versed on what to expect. We mobile ordered two bowls. One bowl was in the refrigerator and the second bowl was circled in pen with no note. After waiting five more minutes I asked where the second bowl was. The woman said because I had asked for no bananas the texture was off. Side note: I've ordered no bananas before at the del ray location and they didn't have a problem. She stopped and looked at me. She didn't say we can give you a refund or make you something else. So I said put a little banana and another fruit in. I have about five blenders at home and know you can make a bowl without bananas. After waiting around 25 mins at this point she brings me (bowl on the left) which is practically empty when compared to the bowl to the right (the other one we ordered and what I've always received in the past). Please retrain your staff to have better, basic customer service. If no bananas is a problem it shouldn't be a choice in the app! read more

This place is definitely not a cheap place to go, but they really do make some great açaí bowls. The entire staff is very friendly. One day there I waited over 25 minutes for my bowl and I just checked in to ask how much longer and the manager (I'm assuming) was very sweet and got it for me quickly. They also have a fridge with different to-go options, I've had the cookie dough balls from there before. They have great coffee options. And they also have an online order feature, which I have not yet used :) read more

I saw this place on a Friday night on King Street, and I thought it looked super cool, so I tried it out that following Monday. When I arrived, I quickly found a paid spot directly in front of the shop; there is also a parking garage adjacent to South Block. The place is clean and appealing. There are plenty of tables, so if you want to meet a group of friends there and do some group work, go for it. I wouldn't recommend this spot for solo studying/writing because the music on the intercom was a tad distracting for me while I worked on an article. There was no line, so I ordered the first thing I saw on the menu--the warrior açaí bowl. This bowl came with granola, banana, strawberries, blueberries, and I decided to add chia seeds, which are free. The dish ended up being $11, which I thought was a little pricey, especially for something as easy as what I ordered. The shop is cash-free, so they use the name on your card to call you when your order is ready; I thought that was cute. When I got my order, I sat down at one of the hightop chairs and enjoyed my bowl. The ingredients were irresistible, and you can tell they used the freshest fruits. I have never had an açaí bowl before this one, so I have nothing to compare it to, but I thought the bowl was refreshingly yummy. Despite what I said above, I will not be back for another bowl mainly because I didn't think it was worth $11. Yes, I know the ingredients are fresh and organic, but it's worth no more than $8. I was so in like with the taste of my first açaí bowl that I went to Whole Foods later that day and bought ALL of the ingredients that were in my bowl and started making it myself, and the taste is identical. Hence, why would I buy it when I can make it myself for a fraction of the price? Therefore, I recommend giving this place a visit if you are in the area and craving something light and sweet, but it would be fiscally irresponsible to order the warrior bowl habitually.
