OK, so what is South Block?
On the ground floor its a bright and airy coffee shop. Think whitewashed brick walls and a decent smattering of tables. It has a meeting room / exhibition space at the back and a wee shop that sells a mix of art and arts magazines. Sit by the window and watch the world get on and off the buses across the road. Often frequented by arty looking types & there's a reason for this. It's because its in the middle of an artist hub.
Upstairs are studio for artists and forms part of WASPs Studios - http://www.waspsstudios.org.uk - along with The Briggait nearby. The studios are normally closed to the public however they do open up at least once a year and are worth visiting as you'll find a world inhabited by fine artists, illustrators, sculptors and might even pick up a bargain if they're selling their work. read more
