We went to South Coast Deli in Santa Barbara after one of our buddies told us that this was like his family's go-to spot every single time they came up here. He said it's a must every trip. He and his mom apparently have been coming here for years, and funny enough, they don't even get sandwiches. He said what they always get, and what they've always been known for, is their Cobb salad. So of course, I had to see what the hype was about. We had a little group with us, my wife and two other couples, and all of us decided to go for it and order the Cobb salad. I'm not even exaggerating when I say I was blown away by how big the bowl was when it came out. I was expecting a smaller salad plate or something basic, but this thing came out looking like a full-on meal for two. Huge, loaded, and just absolutely stacked with everything. The bacon bits, the blue cheese, the eggs, the dressing, all of it came together perfectly. The flavor was incredible, and every bite just worked. You could tell they use quality ingredients, and the balance of everything was just right. I'm normally not even a big Cobb salad guy, but this one completely changed my mind. I would one hundred percent go back just for that. Now, I did also get my usual Caesar with chicken, because that's my go-to whenever we go anywhere that has it. And again, really impressed. The chicken was cooked perfectly, the portion was big, and the dressing was actually great. It wasn't too strong or too fishy like some Caesars can be. It had more of a tangy, lemony flavor with that thicker yolky texture that I really like. I ended up finishing the entire bowl, which never happens with salads for me. Overall, I was really surprised by how good everything was here. It definitely lived up to what our buddy told us, and I can totally see why it's a local favorite. Between the portions, the flavor, and just the overall quality, it's easily one of my new favorite deli spots in Santa Barbara. So yeah, highly, highly recommend if you're in town. Especially if you're not normally a salad person, trust me, this one might change that for you.

SO good and SO big - its hard to tell how large these sandwiches are from pictures, but they were truly massive and heavy to carry.

    Keep Calm Kale On Salad

The only issue with the Keep Calm and Kale On Salad is that it's the most addicting meal imaginable. It could probably be two meals but nobody has time for that kind of restraint. Each bite is a magical cheesy garlicky delight. While the dressing has a strong flavor, it isn't heavy handed. The sun dried tomato is the secret MVP in that it cuts through the absolute mountain of greens and provides a needed contrast. Meanwhile, the hearts of palm are pretty extraneous but that's not a reason for points off since the salad is highly customizable (I got mine without pine nuts or onions). While the space is clearly designed for a major takeout operation, it's still a pleasant and casual place to dine in with efficient service and friendly vibes. I'm not in Santa Barbara often but will definitely be back.

SCD is by far my favorite place in SB for a fresh salad! I love the variety of flavors and combinations on the menu. I do wish they had other options for protein on salads, specifically steak - but that doesn't stop me from going at least 2-3 times a month. I love that their San Roque location is now open on Sundays! The staff is always very friendly and their online order system is great for pickups! I usually get the protein, dressing, and toppings like chips on the side when I order takeout to ensure freshness!

Great sandwich, in and out quickly. There was no line, no real wait, and plenty of empty seats. They had some creative stuff on the menu, but I stuck with a basic Jim's Breakfast Sandwich (with bacon). Only thing I didn't love is that the young girl working wasn't very helpful with my questions as a first timer... the place was empty, what else was there to do? Also, no sides or house chips. A La Carte bags of chips are available if you want them.

    Romaine & Gorgonzola salad

I want to eat all the things here! The salad and sandwiches I've tried have been so good. The salad was super filling, I couldn't even finish it, and I'm a volume eater. I also got to try half the panini and it was fantastic. So good that I'm ready to try all the other sandwiches quality stuff from what I've had. It's cold cuts but that's what I'm looking for. Romaine & Gorgonzola romaine with all natural roasted turkey breast, gorgonzola cheese, chopped walnut, avocado, and our tangy tabasco vinaigrette T 'N A Panini all natural roasted turkey breast w/ bacon, swiss cheese, avocado, tomato, onion, pepperoncini, mayo, and mustard grilled and pressed on your choice of sourdough or wheat

I was looking for a lunch spot, so I opened the Yelp app. Angela R, one of my Yelp friends, had just posted a review of this location of South Coast Deli. It was quite a coincidence because for about a week I had been saying I was in the mood for a Chinese Chicken Salad. Angela mentioned she had just tried, and loved the Asian Greens Chicken Salad. It sounded close enough to a Chinese Chicken Salad to me, so I drove over to South Coast Deli to give it a try. This was my first time eating at a South Coast Deli. I've been to the Goleta SCD location before, but when I visited the Goleta store it was lunchtime and it was crazy busy, so I bailed. With that in mind, I hit up this Carrillo location around 11 am to avoid the lunch rush. It was my first visit, but my wife has been a South Coast Deli customer for years. She told be the salads here are great, and they're huge. She wasn't kidding! I took my Asian Greens Chicken Salad home and split it with my wife. That salad was so large it filled two dinner plates. Plenty enough for two people, Check out my photos! I liked the Asian Greens Chicken Salad, I liked it a lot. The greens were crisp and crunchy, and kind of peppery. There were plenty of slices of tender chicken. I am allergic to raw onions and asked them to omit the green onions, which they did. I really appreciated that! And at $11.95, it's a pretty good deal! So happy I spotted Angela's review and gave this place a try. I can't wait to go back and try one of their famous sandwiches. Would I get an Asian Greens Chicken Salad again? Probably not. It was good, but I'd try a different salad if I was ever in the mood for a salad again. And it really didn't satisfy my craving for a Chinese Chicken Salad, so, yeah. Mikey C says: by the way, there are lots of Vegan and Vegetarian items on the menu here, too! Cool!

    Buffalo Blue
    Jon R.

Another awesome South Coast Deli location. This one is right off State Street in downtown Santa Barbara. I ordered one of my personal favorites, the Buffalo Blue salad. The amount of chicken you get is very filling. The Buffalo sauce adds an awesome kick and the crisp lettuce is very refreshing. The staff was friendly and prepared the salad quickly and with the same quality you can expect from any South Coast Deli. 5 stars!!!

Asian Greens Chicken Salad ~ Such a delicious salad!! Loved it
    Angela R.

SCD aka South Coast Deli has always been my favorite place in town when it comes to salad cravings. Lately, I've been going to the Carrillo location, which is downtown and within walking distance from State Street. Highly recommend ordering ahead of time online or by phone. They tend to get busy here during the lunch rush. Seating is limited and tight quarters inside, but there are a few tables outside too. I usually order the Mexican Caesar salad, which comes with their creamy cilantro dressing. It is by far the best I've ever had and I always order an extra one so I don't run out. I like to get my salad dressing on the side so it's not soggy & it helps control how much I add to it. On my latest visit I finally switched it up and ordered their Asian Greens Chicken Salad. OMG! This one just might be by new go to! At least until I get tired of it. I loved the crunchy wontons and black sesame seeds! They really don't skimp on the crunchy textures here. The Napa Cabbage & Bok Choy were easily digestible and they hit another home run with their spicy sesame dressing. The sandwiches here are equally delicious and pretty hefty portions as well. No matter what you order here, you will not be disappointed!
