BJ's Beauty & Barber College - My horrible (non bob haircut) that I did not want.

This was formerly Cascade Beauty College. I'm not sure when it became part of the larger BJ's…read moreBeauty & Barber College (with branches in Puyallup and Tacoma), but it's definitely not Cascade any more, so that entry needs to be marked closed. A shame since Cascade used to have even better deals than their Groupon deals. Not only did this location not have specials of any kind, the Groupon deals available for the other two locations didn't apply to this one. But, sadly, a Groupon deal wouldn't have made this sow's ear even into a denim purse. My haircut was pretty decent, but my student didn't even know how to apply a product - with only a month or so until graduation. My relative's hair wasn't even - not by a long shot. And our mani-pedis were, in the words of my relative, something out of a 3rd grade slumber party - and cost more than the haircuts. All in all, I'm out almost $60, and my relative needs to get her hair done by a licensed professional. And, soon, we'll both either have get our nails redone. And don't even whisper "French tip" as the student doesn't have a clue. Plus, although the website says hair color starts at $20, I was quoted $30. But, sadly, this is not the students' fault. At least not too much. For a group of about 20 or so young ladies, there was only one instructor. One! At the beginning of the cuts, the instructor did not work with the student to make sure the cut would work for the client or make sure the student knew what she was doing. The instructor did not check the cut to make sure it made sense. In the beginning, one has to sign an agreement not to sue. Instead of agreeing to anything, just go somewhere else.

I have never given a bad review... but in this case I was made so unhappy I felt it needed to be…read morevoiced. I found a Groupon for a perm, cut and style ($60 value) for $35. I have been wanting a big loose curl perm for quite some time and thought this was the perfect opportunity. I attended beauty school when it was Cascade years ago and know perms are often done and hard to mess up so I jumped on it! At least we were capable when I went. I set an appt 3 weeks in advance at 11am specifically with an experienced student only to arrive at 11 to be told our appt was at 10 and since it wasn't busy now I am with someone else who had availability. Once I get in the chair I find out she's only been there a couple months and never done a boomerang perm. Ok... I was hesitant but know this is what they are in school for and have instructors watching and helping them. I showed them what I wanted (pics below),I went along with it. She wrapped my hair, very minimal talking/interaction...it took a couple hours so I didn't expect there to be talking the entire time but she didn't ask me anything aside if I've had a perm before. She began to apply the solution and the instructor who must have been new at the school decided to have me sit front ways into the sink to apply the solution, process, rinse and again with the 2nd solution. It was Extremely uncomfortable and by the time I was finished ALL of my make up was gone. My mascara seriously smeared all around my eyes, the front my my shirt drenched. I was pissed and super embarrassed. I get to the styling chair and looked at myself and it was NOT EVEN CLOSE to the pic I showed them (pic below). Some strands of my hair look like dreadlocks, others just wavy. At that point I just wanted to leave, didn't want to dry or anything. I knew if I began to talk I would be extremely rude and I by no means wanted to student to feel bad since she already did due to the way I was processed and she was doing the best she could. I go to pay...I was told prior that spiral perms would be $75 with the cut and style. I get to the counter, they tell me $75. I tell them I have the Groupon. They said the balance due was $45. I pay and leave. I was hardly paying attention since I was so irritated and upset. I get driving home and think about it... If i got a deal for a $60 service and mine came to 75, I should only be paying $15 extra!!!! I called and spoke with Nancy, who rang me up. She told me they only deducted $30 from the total. ...I paid $35 for a $60 service so where does the $30 come from? She stutters over her words a few times not making any kind of logic to then tell me in the end that the total of my service was $100....seriously after I was told by the 3 different people it was $75?!?! What?!?!?! So $60 was taken from the "$100" service. Well BASIC MATH SKILLS... if this were truly the case...that clearly comes to $40. At that point I was pissed...seriously wanted to cuss her out. And instead just said "ok well u charged me $45". She said she would refund the extra $5. I have yet to see that refund. Safe to say I won't and it's more of the principle that I waited for the refund to hit my account....although it should have been a $30 refund. I still tipped the student $20 because I know she did her best and it was probably 3hrs I was there with her so money spend was not the issue by any means. But to say the least, absolute terrible experience. Once they cash that Groupon, they would have gotten $105 for a $75 service that was not even remotely close to what was asked and shown to receive. I wouldn't have ever posted a review if I wasn't jipped of $30. That was just the cherry on top.
