This has definitely been my best culinary experience during my entire stay in Lincoln…read more.. "The Old Bakery" caught my eye on my first day when I was casually strolling through Lincoln; I was determined to give it a try - not only because of all the dining award stickers on the outside, but also, by the rustic and quaint interior. No sooner thought than done, myself and a couple of friends came here for dinner and let me tell you about our epicurean journey: Two of us had the "Peter Lundgren", which is a slowly roasted deboned pork 'chop'... it was embedded on a cushion of cinnamon-spiced cabbage and served along with tasty young potatoes. The meat was delicious and it was so soft that it fell apart in my mouth...and it was where a hint of fennel seeds unfolded its magic. For dessert, I had the pistacchio creme brulee, which also was fantastic - I felt like I was eating rich pistacchio gelato in an Italian town, only that it was covered with a crust of delicious caramelized sugar. On top of these two fabulous dishes, we also indulged in a series of freebies: home-made bread, amuse bouches, pre-dessert amuse bouches and even a post-dessert chocolate treat served along with the bill! However, I also do have to agree with the previous writer - Phil C. - that there is quite a gap between the quality of the food and the quality of the service. In fact, I was really quite disappointed by the service as it was in such stark contrast with the food: how can the food be so delicious, but the people serving it so non-compassionate and un-enthusiastic about their food? I don't expect an expert-waiter to tell me everything about the food, but I would appreciate someone who is in tune with the guests and can attend to their wishes... Anyway, I still recommend you come here...in fact, I would propose to make a visit during lunch time as they have some nice specials that are much more reasonably priced. Having said that, the food here is not cheap...but I was more than willing to pay the extra price, especially after all the other average and mediocre experiences over the past few days: in other words, I have truly enjoyed my visit to "The Old Bakery".

Food is of a very high standard and cooked by an Italian chef. The restaurant is very popular and can be booked up for a month or so in advance. They have won many awards by the normal awarding bodies like the AA and enjoy England. They have their fingers crossed to get a Michelin rating in January. Rooms are available and quite reasonably priced. The owner is always wandering around and keen to chat with customers.

What a disappointment. After spending 75 GBP per person for Christmas lunch, I was absolutely…read moreappalled at the food. It was obvious that the food had been sitting around and warmed up right before serving. The parma ham wrapped cod was so dry and cold that it was inedible. The cauliflower soup was so heavy that two spoons of it was more than enough. I couldn't even figure out what the side dish was but there was so much dill in it that I couldn't eat it. The roasted vegetables were good and so was the dessert. However, my daughter's chocolate tart was awful. I won't be spending another Christmas at this place...that is for sure! Oh, and trying to get out of the parking area was a joke. It took me twice going in and out of the hotel to let them know we were having problems before the idiot of a woman told me she could manually open it. Why the heck didn't she do that in the first place when she saw I had 3 very elderly people with me?

It is located in the bailgate area of Lincoln and cant be missed as it makes the Castle look a dot! The Cathedral has had bad luck in its history, as in 1141 (possibly earlier) it was hit by a fire. Alexander The Magnificent partially rebuilt it, then in 1185 an earthquake then damaged the Cathedral and St Hugh began reconstructing the damage in 1192 where he used gothic style features on the Cathedral, unfortunatly he died before it was finished. Mistakes occured when it was being turned into a gothic style church and the central tower collapsed around 1237 which caused some set backs with the building, they began building a new tower in 1255. All 3 towers had spires on top, but then one of them blew down then the rest were removed. The Cathedral is often having restoration work on it, to try keep it to its former glory so many people can still come and visit. If in Lincoln this is the very place to come and visit along with Lincoln Castle, it holds much information and some amazing things to view inside.

Undoubtedly the finest prestigious dining experience in the North of England and quite possibly one…read moreof the best in the UK?! Does Yelp have a UK top ten list? Truly I hardly know where to begin with this place. Let's just start by saying this is possibly the finest dining experience I have ever had and I have had some amazing fine dining experiences all over the world. It is truly special, from the moment you walk in the door you are made to feel like you are the only diner. The service is impeccable, the waiters are so knowledgeable and clearly very thoroughly trained. This is by far more superior than any eatery in the UK I have visited. We were booked on the nine course tasting menu, with a free gorgeous room thrown in per couple, and seriously you will want to stay over. The food was to die for and included beautifully presented Oysters and foie gras which of themselves gives you an idea of the standard you can expect here. Each course came with a preselected wine flight which was great to force you into stepping into another world of wines you might not ordinarily try. We were told that the video cameras in the dining room angle directly over the tables is, rather than keeping a big brother eye over your behaviour, so that the chef can get the timing of the courses appropriately just perfect. And so they were. After dinner we had tea and coffee and then sipped Champagne by the fire until the very small hours of the morning. The only tiny issue I really have to force myself to look for is being off the beaten path but then they've got that covered with their cosy opulent rooms and walking maps of a truly beautiful part of the world. It felt like a holiday not just a Friday night out so why wouldn't you indulge? This place needs a ten star rating option, I literally felt like a princess! Congratulations Winteringham Fields, I think I've fallen a little bit in love with you...

Recently televised on Gordon Ramsey's best restaurants it certainly deserves a visit. It is without doubt a place to visit for that special occasion, we had the taster menu which allows the chef to select all your courses, and you won't be disappointed in his selections. The food is locally sourced and seasonal and as such you will be offered one of the most memorable evenings for a long time to come. You need book here but if you want spoiling at a price, make it one of your 40 things to before you die.
